Chapter 24

Amanda's POV

I looked to James as I heard her say that the bond was broken and he took a step back, it was as if he just realized that he did not feel her death. He was confused, I felt bad for keeping him in the dark. It is why I brought him here, he needed to know and I knew that she would have been mad if she knew about that. The ring that I gave her allowed me to feel what she was feeling. I could not imagine feeling that kind of peace with my death, there was one other thing, she thought about her locker when she died. I would have to go there to see for myself what that was about. I touched her hand feeling the cold but also the heat that had come from the hell fire.

"Did you know?" James asked when he finally was able to comprehend what happened.

"Yes,"
"And why didn't you tell me?"

"You would have tried to stop her,"

"At least she would still be alive,"

"No, every scenario that I saw of the future she died. She did this for you. She gave you the freedom to move on. She sacrificed everything so that you and the pack would be ok. Shelby did everything for you," I started to lose control. "IT WAS ALL FOR YOU. EVERYTHING THAT SHE DID SINCE SHE MEET YOU AND REALIZED THAT SHE WAS IN LOVE WITH YOU! SHE BROKE HER OWN HEART SO THAT YOU COULD FIND SOMEONE ELSE! SO DON'T YOU DARE GET MAD AT ME!" I screamed. I did not even realize that I was crying until I stopped and saw them on her face. "She loved you more than she loved herself," I looked at the peace on her face. I picked up my phone and called the pack hospital.

"Hello?" my mothers voice came over the phone.

"I need transportation for Shelby," I could hear the sorrow in my voice. I had filled her in last night on the possibility of Shelby's death.

"Is she...?" She could not even finish her sentence.

"Yea, she is gone," it hurt to say those words aloud.

"It is on its way now,"

"Thank you," I hung up. Thomas and Joey got back, they had been chasing after Heather and Eric. Karissa just disappeared; I couldn't imagine that the two of them had been mixed up in this. They seemed so innocent, but I guess that life is not always what we expect. "I will handle the funeral arrangements," I said, my eyes challenged any of them to disagree, but they never did. The boys just lifted her body and took it to the road where the ambulance was waiting, I got in with her. I was mad at her and upset with James, he did not even notice that their bond was gone, how could he not notice something like that. Their bond was so strong, it made me a little envious of it at first. They found love at such a young age, I hated how he treated her sometime. He would piss her off just to get her reaction and then there was the period where he knew that she was his mate and he just kept dating other women just because he could not have her. He was such a child about it sometime, it made me not respect him as an Alpha. I held her hand even though it was cold and lifeless. I wanted her to still be here, with me. I wanted to help her find a new mate, watch her fall in love with someone who deserved her. She was so pure and innocent, even after all that she has been though.

"Are you alright?" Joey brought me out of my thoughts.

"It is not fair," I said.

"I know, but she did not just do it for James. Late last night she came to my room to tell me that she left you something in her locker at school, Shelby did this for your future too," Joey took a breath. "I think that she loved you just as much as I do," His hand went to his pocket.

"What do you have there?" I asked pointing to his pocket.

"Don't worry about it," He smiled and his eyes went to Shelby. I could see something in them, like gratitude but I do not understand why it was there. "We are here," he said before I could question him further.

We went into the hospital, and I followed her bed all the way to the morgue where they would get her body ready for the funeral that would be held this weekend. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to her, it was like losing a part of myself.

"There is more than one type of soulmate you know?" I saw me birth mother come into the room and was not sure when everyone had left but it was just the two of us, had I really been that out of it. "Shelby was one of yours. She was meant to be there for all of your troubles just like how you were there for her,"

"She was too good for this world," I said looking back down to her. Her skin looked paler and her face did not have its normal glow.

"I know, Shelby was born with the ability to love deeper and with more purity than anyone else will ever be able to know. Her heart was meant to light up every room that she stepped in,"

"She did, and she forgave everyone, even if they did not apologize,"

"It is time to say goodbye," I heard her whisper. "I know you are not ready but remember that it is not permanent. You will see her again,"

"I love you," I whispered with tears streaming down my face. "Goodbye Shelby," I let go of her hand and walked out of the room into Joey's arms.

"It will all be ok," he said while he ran his hands through my hair trying to calm me down.

"Take me to the high school," I said. I needed to know what she left for me in the locker.

"Ok," was all he said before he led me out of the building and to the high school. He did not say anything during the car ride. He just drove holding my hand as if he just realized that we did not know how much time we had left together. When he pulled in front of the school, he threw the car in park and got out of the car to open my door. I learned early on that he would always open the door for me. It was adorable, but I had a feeling this time was because I needed him to support me. He helped me out of the car and up the steps, in no time he had me in front of her locker. I could not open it, I wanted to but it felt wrong like I was admitting that she would never be coming back. "It is ok, this is what she wanted," Joey reassured me.

I nodded and put in the combination, opening the door. I saw an envelope with my name on it, my hands were shaking as I pulled the envelope off the door and opened it. It was a letter and her will. I was shocked that she left me in charge of it, I put it aside and opened the letter first.

'Dear Mandy,

If you are reading this, then I lost. Please do not be sad, I lived my life with no regrets. I loved with everything I had and smiled with you by my side, please never lose your smile. I left you my will, please read it and follow it to the letter. I will now watch over you and protect you as well as I can from where I am. Take your time in our reunion, as long as you are happy I can wait to see you again.

With love,

Your sister.

P.s. Turn around'

Confused by the letter, I turned around to see Joey down on his knee with a ring out. "I know that it is not how you pictured this, but when Shelby came to me she made me promise that if things ended this way that I would follow her instructions to the letter. I know that we have not known each other for long, but there is no one that I would rather spend the rest of my life with, no matter how long that is. Today made me realize that I am scared to lose you and that I love you more than anything in the world. Would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" Joey said.

"Yes," I said without a moment's hesitation. Taking a closer look at the ring that he had "Did she make that herself?"

"How did you know?"

"That is the ring that I told her I wanted. A small oval diamond with sapphires on either side with a silver band," I smiled at the memory. "I can not believe that she remembered, we were in middle school when I said that," Joey wiped a tear off my face and slipped the ring on my finger. I was happy that she thought of that, she knew me so well.

I turned to the will and opened it reading out what she had done as her final act in the world. I gasped, she did not. "Oh my god," I said.

"What?" Joey asked.

"She built us a house and left us money for college and our children to go to college, set up multiple investments for us," I cried out. "She made sure that I would never struggle in life. She really looked out for me,"

"She really loved you," Joey said.

"So, you found it. I had a feeling that she would do something like this," I heard Clara's voice. I turned to her.

"You knew?" I asked.

"Shelby wanted to make sure that you two would be alright no matter what. She came to me a couple of nights ago and told me to make sure that you came here after her death. Shelby knew that not even death would stop her from protecting you,"
