Chapter 11

Amanda's POV

Being in James's mind sorting through his memories and in his head was fairly common, his father requested a lot of his power be suppressed too. "How much longer?" he asked.

"I am sure of nothing when it comes to unlocking anything," I could hear the strain in my voice. I would not be able to hold this for much longer. "Try to focus on your wings, please. I will be fine,"

"No, you won't,"

"I will be fine; Shelby is the strongest person I know. If I can just hold out and help you with this, maybe she will forgive me for what I did,"

He thought about his wings, they were like Shelby's but black. Their situations were very similar, neither of us were sure where their powers had come from nor what they were mixed with. I needed to work my hardest for her. I could feel that Shelby was sad, I knew all about her relationship with her father, it was the only time I have felt sadness like now. I had to work harder for her, like James who was willing to put her life on the line for Shelby. She would be one hell of a Luna if this is how she could inspire people with her strength. He looked toward me, even my phantom form was shaking, I could not hold up for long. He looked out toward the darkness of my mind, taking a deep breath.

"Don't do it, James. I don't know if I can pull you from there," I said.

"If this does not work and whatever demon I am mixed with comes out you must kill me, tell my father rouges attacked. I would ask Shelby, but she is not here, so it has to be you," He laughed slightly.

"You know that I could not, even with all of my magic," my hold was slipping as soon as he was in the darkness I would be forced out of his mind. "Don't let me down, Shelby needs you as much as the pack," I managed to say. He nodded and dove into the darkness, as I predicted within seconds I was gasping for air in the real world.

"Amanda, Baby, say something? Are you ok?" I could hear his voice, but I was struggling to open my eyes. I managed to make a sound, it was a mix of a groan and a yawn. "What happened?" Eric asked.

I gasped and sat straight up moving over to James's body as I knew he was in the darkness of his own mind. I put my hands on either side of his head attempting to go into his mind once more, but my magic was too weak to break in without his help. I let out a soft sob and turn to the two men who were looking at me wide-eyed. "I can't help him from here," I said.

"What do you mean? What exactly do you do when you use your magic?" Darren asked.

"It is difficult to explain, my mother is a healing fairy and became a werewolf when she met my father. So, my main magic is healing people, but I can also help with trauma by erasing memories or altering them. I can also help with suppressing power if it is too great for that individual to control," I explained, "I am surprised that no one has ever asked me that before," I looked at Eric.

"So, that is why you are training to take over for your mother when you graduate," Darren stated.

"I guess, but I did train under Mrs. Scarlett to control my power which is why James asked me to help train all of the new hybrids. With both my magic and several others the potential for power grows when combined with another species. An example would be this," I hold out my hand and concentrate on James's figure when I open my eyes there is a chart above my hand. "This is a chart of James's vitals, I can project them and have an accurate guess to where he would be injured,"

"So, your mom can not do this?" Eric asked.

"Nope," I said closing my hand causing the chart to disappear. "You two are both vampires correct?"

"Yes," Darren said, Eric just nodded, his eyes seemed said. I would have to remember to ask him about it later.

"And you have wolves?"

They hummed in agreement, then we all snapped our heads toward the edge of the lake where we saw three rouges inside the border. I looked toward the cave and saw someone climbing up to the cave where Shelby was. "Guys we have to fight and hope that Shelby can take care of herself and Carli. We have to defend James until he gets up himself," I said as the two shifted into their wolves. I followed their suit shifting into a grey wolf. I took on the left rouge scratching its face with my red paws, even though they were a symbol of the pack doctor, I had to fight for my Alpha. I tackled the wolf sinking my fangs into its neck. I looked toward Eric and Darren who were handling their own we had all the rouges pinned except for the one that went after Shelby. 'How did they know that she was up there?' I thought to myself.

'Thomas, can you come to the waterfall with the cave? We have some rouges that need to be taken into custody,' I said through our mind link.

'I'll be right there,' he replied quickly. It took him about 15 minutes to get to the waterfall, with a couple of warriors and some clothes for us to put on. I grabbed a set that he had set down and walked behind a tree to change. When I came back out the boys were all in sweats and the rouges were in handcuffs. The guards that Thomas brought with him were escorting the rouges away leaving Thomas, Darren, Eric, and me looking at James. "Are you alright?" Thomas asked as he hugged me. We heard a growl and looked at Eric, "Calm down, she is like my little sister," Thomas laughed at him.

"I am fine," I said walking over to Eric.

"So, what happened to him?" Thomas asked gesturing to James.

"I'm not sure, I was trying to unlock his wings and he went into his mind by himself. I don't know why I can not get back in," I explained.

"You should go with Thomas to see what you can learn about the rouges on our land," Darren suggests.

"Are you sure?" I asked my gaze focused on Eric.

"We can handle it here, don't worry," Eric said.

"Mind link me if anything comes up," I said before turning to walk with Thomas. We walked in silence for a little bit. Once we were out of range for anyone to hear us Thomas started talking, I could not help but be worried for my mate.

"Cheer up, I don't like seeing you with that worried look on your face," Thomas said. "He will be fine, even without his other side he is our top warrior,"

"I know, but I feel a stronger pull to him than I was expected. I know that mates are supposed to be pulled towards each other, but it is almost unbearable to be away from him. I'll have to do more research to see if there are different pulls," I explained.

"Hmm, well there might be," I could sense sadness coming from him.

"Hey, don't be sad. I am sure that you will find her eventually. Just because your little sister found her mate first does not mean that you do not have a mate," I looked up at him and smiled.

"I know, but when are we going to tell them about our shared parents," I was not sure that anyone would ever be ready to hear about us being siblings.

"I don't think that now is the right time. We must worry about James and Shelby; a lot has changed. I doubt that she will accept him as easily as she did last time, I know she still loves him, but she also loves to make him jealous. Which is not good with his new role..."

"He will be more possessive than before," Thomas finished. "We will have to tell them eventually. They are our friends and they deserve to know,"

"I know but how do we tell them, my parents are not actually my parents and I am your long-lost sister that everyone thought died with our parents when a group of rouges attacked?" I choked out with tears threatening to fall. "I could not believe when I found out,"

"Hey," Thomas said grabbing ahold of my shoulders looking into my eyes. "It is going to be ok; we will tell everyone when you are ready. I am just happy to have my little sister back,"

"Let's get going, I am sure that James would want to know why these rouges were on our land before he gets back," we turned to get back to the jail when we heard a scream. "That's Carli," I said running back to the waterfall. Thomas followed; we both knew that if James did not wake up the boys would be unable to help the girls that were in the cave. My lungs were burning but I knew that I had to help or get there. If only I was a little faster, my wolf was not built for running, outside of my wolf form I was not strong, and I could not run fast or for a long time. I was pushing my body to its limit just running a mile. Most wolves that were born with the healing gene could not shift on command; I was lucky to be able to shift. As soon as I arrived, I saw that James was not on the ground where I had left him, I look to the other two for an explanation. They just had a dumbfounded look on their faces staring at the waterfall.

"What happened here?" Thomas asked with an authoritative tone.

"He just got up and was at the waterfall in seconds..." Darren started but got interrupted.

"WHAT THE HELL IS HIS SECOND HALF?" Eric asked getting in my face, grabbing my arms, and shaking me violently.

"BACK OFF PUP!" Thomas got between us shoving Eric back.

"What are you going to do about it?" Eric punched Thomas in the gut causing him to stumble back a couple of steps. Thomas straightened out and charged Eric tackling him to the ground, hitting Eric in the face and chest.

"STOP IT," I screamed and ran toward the two fighting on the ground. Darren grabbed me and held on, "LET ME GO," I hit his arms. Thrashing about, kicking, screaming, and pleading with him to let me go so that I could break up the altercation happening in front of me.

"If I let you go, you are just going to get hurt and then you won't be helping anyone," Darren said calmly. I took a breath and watched my brother and mate wrestle on the forest floor, my eyes flickered over to the waterfall. I prayed that James would come down and break the two men up from their fight.

"What the hell is going on here?" The voice I heard was not the booming male voice I expected, but the one that belonged to my red-headed best friend. The two separated feeling the authority in her voice, "You are both high ranking officers in this pack act like it," the glare in her eyes told all of us that she was serious. Eric and Thomas muttered an apology stared at the ground until James spoke up.

"Do you think you have any right to lecture them after what you just pulled?"

"Fuck off Alpha. Don't forget I only ran away because you manipulated my memories," Shelby said turning to walk away.

"You do NOT get to talk to me like that, I am your Alpha now like it or not. Fix your attitude before I fix it for you," James said causing Shelby to turn back around.

"Try me," Shelby said with a smirk as we all watched his body tense and his eyes turn dark.

James clenched his fists and took a breath to calm himself before declaring "And from now on you will be accompanied by a bodyguard to and from school. Amanda or Carli must be with you at all times,"

"NO, just because you are Alpha does not mean you can control my life. I am capable of protecting myself, as seen by what just happened," Shelby fought back.

"Actually, it does mean that I can control your life, as long as you live in this pack you have to obey me," James crossed his arms over his chest towering over her. "Carli take her home, make sure she stays there,"

"Yes Alpha," Carli replied as Shelby turned her back storming off.
