twenty eight

The bustle of the dining hall felt like a horrible joke for all the exhausted students milling about. It was lunch time, yet the sky was dark with heavy clouds, the dim lights hanging overhead felt eery and the smell of food wafted through, causing stomachs to rumble.

Rina sat at her usual table, gripping her glass of cold blood tightly with great concern. She could see Ahyoung across the canteen, watching her flirt shamelessly with a special pureblood so blatantly obviously. As usual, San didn't seem to care all that much, and politely smiled like the gentleman he was.

That witch is up to something, I know it, the female thought, her grip on the glass only tightening until the whole thing ultimately shattered. The crimson liquid dripped all across the table and towards her. She hissed, standing up quickly to avoid the spillage. "Damn it."

Her eyes flicked back towards her friend and San, though someone else had arrived to the picture. About three or four metres away, Jung Wooyoung was tiredly standing to the side, eying the pair as well, though with a different expression to Rina's.

He seemed somewhat upset, though with his paling skin and dark eyes, it was hard to take notice of that. Clearly he was unnerved by Ahyoung as well, and before Rina even knew what she was about to do, she sped over to him, grabbed his wrist and dragged the unsuspecting boy out of the room.

"Woah! Hey, what are you doing?!" The human shrieked, and the girl almost panicked since she wasn't entirely sure whether San had seen them yet. Once they ducked into the empty common room where students usually mingled yet were absent due to lunch, she felt a little safer in knowing that no one had followed them.

"Who are you? Why have you pulled me in here and what do you want?!" Wooyoung scowled, backing away from the teen and keeping his finger outstretched and pointed towards her.

"Chill out, alright? I'm a friend of Ahyoung's, even though I can't actually stand her-"

"For God's sake, not this again. Everyone seems to be a friend of someone's, don't they? I'm not in the mood, okay? I'm tired, stressed, sick-"

"What? Sick?"

"Ugh, a head-cold or something. Doesn't matter. What do you want?"

This brat, the older scoffed to herself, not even sure why she surprised by his attitude. Ahyoung and San spoke of his odd personality all the time, so it was to be expected. "I've just got some suspicions, okay? Do you know the girl San was with just there?"

"Who? Ahyoung?"

"Crap, she's been visiting you, hasn't she?"

"Mmm, for medicine or something," he agreed, "It's weird though. But she said San told her to do it, so I'm obliging very reluctantly."

"You should stop," Rina hissed, "Stop taking it!"

Wooyoung furrowed his brows, bewildered beyond belief by her forceful tone and crazy talk. He hadn't understood this entire situation from the beginning, and she was only making it worse. "But-"

The door swung open beside them, and a loud voice interrupted their conversation.

"Aha, there you are!" Mingi called, clapping his hands together at his successful find. "San said you were late, and is wondering where you are."

"Mingi....." Rina blushed, balling her hands by her sides and sighing deeply. Then, she took one more look at Wooyoung and shared this woeful expression with him before promptly leaving and brushing past the mixedblood at the door.

The tall boy sported a confused face, though didn't question anything for the one fact that he didn't really care. "Let's go, Kiddo."

The younger grumbled at the nickname, slowly shuffling towards him and following the ravenette out. Within the depths of his own mind, he was wondering what that girl was talking about. He had been taking those little doses of medicine for three days now, and was starting to believe he had nothing to worry about.

"Why did you run off?" Mingi asked lowly as they returned to the canteen, moving towards the table which held the centre of everyone's attention. Ahyoung had appeared to leave San alone by now, which Wooyoung felt happier about, unbeknownst as to 'why'.

"I didn't run off-" he started to explain, though figured he was far too tired to ramble on about the ordeal and not really in the mood to delve into any specifics. So instead, he settled with, "I don't know. I'm just tired and didn't want to hang out today."

The taller didn't turn around to read any expressions or anything, though he could tell by the human's tone that he wasn't feeling one hundred percent. "Oh," he murmured, leaving it there.

Wooyoung stopped at San's table, noticing the older chatting with Yeosang in a hushed voice before glancing up at him.

"Ah, Darling. I was growing a bit worried there. Are you alright?"

"I'm fine...." he lied, arching his brow curiously as he sat opposite him and beside Yeosang. A sudden rush of Seonghwa's scent hit him, and he immediately started to miss his best friend again. He chose to ignore the feeling though, leaning in and asking a question. "What were you both talking about?"

"Hm? Nothing," Yeosang covered, waving it off and boredly taking a bite from his chicken. "Where were you?"

"Toilet."

Mingi furrowed his brows and tried to give the boy a look, though Wooyoung ignored it completely and leaned on his palm to act natural. He knew they weren't just conversing about 'nothing', yet he wasn't the type to force the answer from them either.

His stomach ached dully, like a hunger pain, but the teen wasn't hungry. No, it was an ill sensation that caused him no end of discomfort. I need to throw up, he thought, rolling out his shoulders and leaning forward to clutch his stomach. God, have I caught that virus Ahyoung was talking about?

"You don't look so good," San frowned, touching the purplette's cheek and grazing his thumb over his soft cheekbone. The burning heat of his skin was worrisome, and Wooyoung would definitely decline his help when offered. "Darling, what's wrong? Are you sick? Is this a fever?"

"It's nothing," the younger insisted, massaging his own temples and leaning against his touch. "I'll be fine after some sleep."

Little did either know, that Wooyoung would not be fine.
