Chapter 64

Chapter 64

"Felix," I greeted the blond-haired man as he stepped into the room, giving me a quiet nod before I handed him the list of names and faces of the members in the NPA. He took them, instantly beaming a bright smile at me before handing the information to his bodyguard.

"You've worked surprisingly fast," he motioned the guards to place the teacups that were prepared beforehand in front of us as I gave a flippant smile, only thanking him briefly for his compliment.

"The NPA should be in your grasp now," I said before taking a sip of the rose tea. Just a few days ago, I had Mello take a walk to the NPA, glancing once at the name of 'Kotoro' at the front desk before writing his orders to follow my instructions. Afterwards, I went into the building and asked Kotoro, who was very happy to see me in such a while, for all the files of the members in the NPA.

While he was preparing the sheets, we talked about my degrees and how much he would like me to join the interrogation team since they were now hiring. I agreed, stating that I would definitely be there after a couple of months since I was taking a break from bingeing 2 whole entire degrees in the span of 4 years.

After leaving the building, I hastily ordered Mello to write the names in the Death Note, cause of death being the original lifespan where they had to follow all requests of Felix and Sayu Yagami.

"Here's the information you wanted," Felix passed me a thin file as I opened it, eyes flashing across the information of Roger Ruvie.

"You're planning to move soon, right?" Felix's eyes trailed onto my face before pausing ever so slightly. "His ending is near and ours is just beginning."

I replied instantly, leaving with a sly smile before waving goodbye to him as I left Henrik's mansion that was now passed onto Felix. I rode a taxi after walking away from the mansion and headed over to the hotel that I reserved for Mello. As expected, Mello was quietly working on the names of the influential people in Asia from the news broadcasts that were flashing on the screen.

"You're back," Sidoh flapped his wings as he skippered towards me with a bar of chocolate in his hands. "You're moving fast for someone who was so hesitant in the beginning."

I closed the door to his hotel room, plopped onto the couch before heaving a long sigh.

"There really is no reason for me to wait anymore," I crossed my legs before leaning back into the couch. Mello beside me ignored my presence with silence, having become much more obedient from the beginning when he tried defying my orders.

"I'm not the type to procrastinate and suffer with my decisions."

"My Death Note will be returned soon then," Sidoh chirped back at my words before munching on his chocolate. "I will miss the taste of chocolate though."

"I'll pack you a box of chocolate bars when you leave," winking, I gave him a small smile as Sidoh's face brightened from my offer, nodding vigorously as I turned back to Mello with a slight frown.

"Miheal, you are to write the name Roger Ruvie onto the Death Note with the cause of death being his original lifespan and that he will listen to all orders of Sayu Yagami," I continued.

"Write that he will take a picture of Near discreetly and send it through email to this email," I wrote down my email on a plain sheet of paper before adding on. "He will delete all information from coming in contact with this email later."

Mello's eyes hallowed instantly after realizing what I was doing, finally breaking mentally when I saw the light in his eyes had fully disappeared. He was nothing more than a doll of mine now. I had given him the dream and image of his mother abandoning him. The only hope he had was to get out of my grasp and take revenge on me. But during the past couple of weeks of trying when I was not by his side, he probably understood that there was no way out.

Mello had given me too much information to stop the death of everyone. He had lost everything.

Roger Ruvie was a real person.

Through Felix's constant digging of this person's information, he found the linkage between Watari and Roger through the photo that Henrik found inside the obliterated orphanage. Roger Ruvie did not mask his own name, which was a spot for me to take advantage in.

Clean and spotless.

That was the move I made.

I was planning on giving Near more hints into cornering Light, but in the end, it didn't matter if I had Near under my control too.

I swallowed victoriously before my phone rang. It was a call from Anthony.

Anthony called for a business meeting about the prototype the new phone was in. I pushed the meeting further after my main mission as I heard his pause at the end of the line.

"You're finally killing him," Anthony breathed a sigh of relief despite me not telling him anything of the sort. But I only answered in silence, which Anthony took as a yes from my side.

"I'll go with you when the time comes, you need as much support as you can."

"Anthony, I'll be fine," my eyes flickered to the window. "You have your own business that you need to attend to."

"I can't finish my work knowing that you're in danger, Alyona. I promise it will be only a small group, I've promised you that I'd be at your side if you break."

Seeing that Anthony was so persistent in coming, I sighed with a bit of hesitance.

"...You may bring 6 people. No more, no less. I'm trying to lay low from the others and I'll message you when it's time to move."

"Thank you, Alyona," he said. "You don't know how much this means to me."

His words did not surprise me nor give a false sense of security. Instead, I felt nothing but numbness. With that, I bid him farewell and hung up my phone.

"Congratulations on graduating high school, Miyara!" I held up my fist as she bumped it with a small huff. In the corner of my eyes, I saw Mr. Hoshino wave towards me in the back of all the crowds of students. I directed a cheerful grin before waving back, gesturing in the direction of the gate towards Miyara and guiding her out of the school grounds.

"I can't believe that graduation was held back as if I wasn't already late in competing with you guys." Miyara rolled her eyes before sighing slightly, looking over at the school gates which her other group of friends were waiting for her at. I pulled back, registering the information before turning my eyes towards her.

"Look, Sayu, you, Tsubame, and Aoiko and Isame have been the best friends for me during the first year," she hung her head apologetically before lifting her diploma in her right hand. "But I just don't think that I belong in the same ambitious group as you three."

She gave me a slack expression before explaining.

"It's just that- you three have been pushing so far away that I feel lost and empty with you guys. I know this is all because I'm lacking in certain areas, but I've finally found a place to go in with-" she pointed to the other group of girls who were chattering and waving her over. Miyara gestured that she'll be there in a moment before lowering her eyes.

I pressed my lips together with a pronounced sigh, nodding in understanding.

"I'm fine, Miyara," I cleared my throat before smiling softly. "I understand, I've basically left the group in the first year along with Aoiko, and Tsubame was closer to the rest of us so it was normal for her to be swept with the flow."

The expression I wore was rigid, but I held in the swirling dark feeling that was eating my stomach. It did not feel good when one of your writers had the will to leave you.

Just control her and tell her to leave with you.

Nope.

I shook my head.

"I'm happy that you've found new friends and a pace that you could go in," I patted her on the shoulder before frowning slightly. "Tsubame might feel depressed about your leave, though."

"To be honest, I actually stopped talking with Tsubame after Isame's death..." Miyara trailed off hesitantly before I blinked back in surprise.

No wonder Tsubame took so long to get over Isame's death. She was literally by herself! And her decision of graduating early might have also stemmed from Miyara's actions. But I couldn't blame Miyara, after all, the death of someone was quite sensitive to those who did not come in contact with killing that much.

"I see," I flickered my gaze towards her friends who were calling out to her. "Well, even if you found your group, that doesn't mean we can't hang out in the future, right?"

She gave me a bashful smile and nodded, drifting away to her new group of friends. I sighed before lifting my face up to blink away the tears, remembering Tsubame's words when I first wrote their names onto the Death Note.

We'll always be friends right, Sayu?

Friends.

We had all drifted to different parts of the world with only a fragile connection between the remainder of us.

I turned my back on Miyara's laughing and bright face before walking away from the school, knowing that it might be the last time I saw Miyara after this parting. After all, connections were hard to maintain when you did not see each other in the same environment constantly.

"Sayu!" Matsuda rushed to greet me as I entered the HQs, sending an 'oof' out of my mouth as he pulled away from me, smiling. "It's been so long Sayu! I was so busy that I completely forgot to read your message!"

"Long time no see, Matsuda! What were you busy with?" I tilted my head and plastered on an innocent smile. Matsuda leaned closer after peeking around the hall, after seeing that none of his coworkers were there, he opened his mouth.

"I'm only telling you because you've been involved with the Kira case before, but the second successor of L tried to steal Mr. Mogi away!"

My eyes widened at the information. How did Matsuda know that?

"Did Mr. Mogi tell that to you?" I didn't hide the surprise in my tone as Matsuda nodded.

"That didn't work though, and Mogi told everyone in the Kira Force! Aizawa and Ide are furious at how Near tried to arouse suspicion onto Light!" Matsuda puffed out his chest and patted himself.

"What else?" I forced my eyes to open wider as if intrigued.

"Ah, sorry Sayu, I don't think I can disclose that much information," he laughed apologetically while scratching the back of his head.

"Matsuda," I protested by stepping closer to him. "You do remember that my father was killed by a successor, right?"

My serious voice snapped him out of his casual demeanour.

"Of course I do, Sayu! I just don't want to endanger you to Kira, Chief Yagami would never have wanted his two children to endanger their lives!"

I shook my head slowly at his words, gazing sincerely into his eyes.

"Please Matsuda, you're the only hope that I have," I used the superior tactic on him. "You know that my dad was purposefully killed by them! Not to mention, just being L's previous victim of interrogation-"

Tears started crawling into my eyes as Matsuda panicked, sweat visible on top of his forehead.

"Sayu- I-I-really can't-"

"Matsuda, please," I clasped my hands together and begged him. "I have already been in danger two times because of L and what endangers me the most is that I have no idea what is going on or when I will be captured again!"

"Sayu, we won't let that happen to you again!" Matsuda yelped at my accusations.

"But can you be sure?" I questioned him in a rush. There was really no time to let him think. The less he thought, the more information would be revealed.

"My father would have told me at least the basics of what was happening so that he could prevent another accident."

Matsuda's face pale before slapping his own forehead. Finally deciding what to do, he opened his mouth after wiping the sweat that trickled down his temples.

"It is suspected," Matsuda halted into a whisper before narrowing his eyes around the area to check if someone else was not there. "-That Near himself is Kira!"

I gasped mockingly.

"But if Near is Kira, then aren't you guys all risking your life? Wouldn't Kira have..." I trailed off innocently.

"Near wants the Death Note in our hands," Matsuda explained. "If he really is Kira, then he would need Light to tell him where the Death Note is!"

"Did Light hide the Death Note?" I questioned again, fully aware that we were talking about the Death Note that he gave me. What sort of excuse did Light say to his members?

"After the last incident, Light told us that he buried the Death Note along with his father's remains. He said that this is what his father tried to guard during his Death, and was one of the ways to prevent the Death Note from being used by Kira again."

"That makes sense..." I trailed off before lowering my eyes downwards.

"In fact, everyone agreed that Chief Yagami should be the one to hold the Death Note because of his will saying that he would protect the note at all costs," he said.

Hm, so Light used dad as an excuse to force the members to feel guilty about Soichiro's death, not to mention crafted up a will? A very applicable move he did right there.

So Mogi was still on Light's side, not to mention that Near failed with convincing Mogi that the 13-day rule was fake. Most likely, Near tried to claim the rule as wrong but failed since he had never seen the cover of the book. Even if Near pulled out a couple of pages that I gave him, the task force would not be able to recognize the pages apart from ordinary, line pieces of paper.

Near was quite a disadvantage here. Well, not that I thought Near would show Light the pages of the note. That could directly imply that Near himself was Kira, since the only existing books the Task Force knew of was the one buried in Yagami's grave and the one Kira had.

Near knew this too, so the percentage of him showing the pages to Light was close to nothing. Honestly I had already calculated that part the moment I decided to send Near the pages. Light in this case, probably also lied to Near that the Death Note that they had was burned along with his father.

"Thank you for telling me, Matsuda," I smiled gratefully before Matsuda shook his head.

"No, I think Chief would have also done that," he patted my shoulder before telling me that he had to head up to the HQ room to discuss capturing Kira. I nodded, waving him goodbye as I watched him leave.

"You seemed to have forgotten that this whole building is installed with security cameras," Light began at dinner as I choked, grabbing the glass of water as I downed it in my mouth.

"You want to know what is happening in the task force," he munched nonchalantly before raising a questioning eyebrow. "You do know you could just ask me?"

I coughed out the remaining food that went down the wrong pipe, staring at him as beads of sweat started to form in my neck as I stumbled to the kitchen to grab some more water.

"You-" I gasped before choking a bit again, clearing my throat to make sure that I would not choke anymore. "Would you actually tell me what is happening then?"

"Of course," he said immediately before placing his utensils on his bowl. "What do you want to know?"

"Serious?" I gaped before putting down the glass and pacing back to my seat to stare at him right in the eyes. "Then tell me, who is still suspecting you to be Kira?"

"Aizawa," he replied curtly before slipping on an easy emile. "But it isn't such a big problem after I spelled out to them what Near was trying to do."

"Why does he suspect you, exactly?"

"The fact that both L and Near questioned the 13th day rule and me being the primary suspect for Kira."

"...How long will it take to get rid of Near?" My eyes flickered to his hands which picked up his chopsticks as they played around with the rice, shuffling them around in the bowl.

"Not long," Light commented before lifting his shimmering eyes to meet mine. "Very soon, you and the world will fully become mine, Sayu."

My heart thudded at his comment, shrinking away bashfully as it tried to launch itself towards my brother.

I knew what he was trying to hint at. The moment he got rid of Near, the Kira task force would also disappear, and with the recent wavering of the Japanese government trying to cave into Kira's acts, Light knew that the game had already been won.

"That...nice," I slowly nodded before turning to my food again.

"Misa Amane will die tomorrow," Light added casually like he was ordering another side of fries. I looked up at his widened smile that was plastered across his face like an eyesore had finally disappeared from his mind. A sly grin seeped onto mine as his hands trailed to grasp mine, squeezing it with joy.

Instantly the next day, I received an email with Near's picture attached. I hopped into the taxi and headed over to Mello's hotel before entering his room and showing Mello the photo. Mello's hollow eyes shone at the picture, instantly moving to the Death Note and writing down my orders that I had told him to two days ago.

When all was done, I picked up the list of names that Mello had written for the past couple of weeks, reading them over as I memorized how many people I had in my control. With this, I had created a monopoly.

Felix had also just emailed me more information on Teru Mikami who I recognized by his photo displayed on one of the member files in the Kira Kingdom. He would be the one to install the pieces and begin the final game.

I slid the files to Mello as he stared at the photo, reading the name on top of the picture before scribbling it down onto the Death Note.

It was time.
