Chapter 62

Chapter 62

"...Sayu? Are you alright?"

Light's voice rang out at the end with a bit of hesitance. I sniffed a bit before laughing half-heartedly, staring at the pendent in hand before sighing a bit.

"I'm...just having a hard time at school."

It was an excuse, knowing that our call was being taped. On the other side, I felt Light's mind instantly turn towards the mafia as the meaning of my 'school.'

"No, it's not what you're thinking of," I shrugged before wiping away my remaining tears. "I just-"

My mouth hesitated before opening again, this time shyly.

"I miss you, brother."

The line went silent before he spoke in a low but firm tone.

"Do you want me to come to you?"

My eyes widened before ringing his words in my mind. He would actually do that for me? But didn't he have people following him 24/7? Not to mention he was busy too-

"No, it's fine. I'm just feeling a bit lonely since dad left," I said quietly before he hummed in acknowledgement. Light knew that it was just a

"We both feel that way," he said softly before adding on.

"Sayu, I love you."

"Wha-"

My face instantly flushed as I heard him chuckle like wind chimes from my speechless state. My heart leaped out of my chest before doing a double flip, slamming into the walls of my chest.

"I've never really voiced it out, but Sayu, you are my precious sister," he uttered gently in case his previous words sounded suspicious. "I love you."

The only thing that was missing was his hidden words of 'you are mine' lingering at the end of his tongue, but he knew that his meaning had been transferred to me successfully. My mouth gaped open and closed like a goldfish before blurting out the same words.

"I love you too, Light."

What was his purpose? Light wasn't the type to say out random things or words of attachment! In fact, it was even crueller because of my plans to kill him. It was like he said it on purpose in order to make me waver. But Light couldn't have known about my plans to kill him, right?

My head twisted behind me to make sure there was no one around to witness my sheer panic. What was wrong with Light? Did he still suspect me? Was it because I had betrayed him before with the Death Note that his trust was still not placed fully with me? But I made sure to explain that it was all in order to confuse L and for his sake, there should be no reason that Light would suspect me of betraying him fully!

"Light," I said silkily. "You're not the type to be so cringy, what's with all the attachment stuff?"

I made sure to force myself to laugh at the end and play if off like a joke.

"It just felt like the right time," he said simply before teasing. "Never thought I would say it out like that?"

The right time? What did that mean? Words of comfort? To show that even if I missed him, he was there to love me? Suspicion?

"Sayu," he called out seriously from the lack of speech on my part. I could tell that he was beginning to question my overly silent voice and if he was right beside me, I could practically imagine him narrowing his eyes at me.

"I'm serious. You are the only sister for me." You are the only one for me.

"Then..." I trailed off strongly despite my trembling shoulders. "Then you'll have to know that you're also the only brother for me."

Light was cruel.

I didn't know if he was doing it on purpose, but he made it even harder for me to kill him. The tears that I had finally cleared away began dropping off my face again as I squeezed my silent screams down.

"I love you," I gasped out before muffling on the end of my line. "I love you, brother."

It was so painful.

It hurt more than anything.

This was the only time I could say it before it was too late. I knew we didn't have enough time left. My hands were wet, filled with my tears as I clenched hard on the phone, shoulders hunched over as I buried my hands into my face.

He was the only one.

I could never forget about him anymore.

It was so hard to love, yet I still did.

"If you can say it to me the next time we meet, I'll buy you a whole month of sweets," his voice sounded grave and he was telling me that we would see each other for sure.

"Is that," I hiccuped. "A challenge, I hear?"

"Yes," he said slowly before I heard Aizawa's voice at the end of the line, tearing us away. "Sayu, wait for me."

There didn't exist anymore waiting.

I squeaked a bit, vision blurring as I murmured out that I would wait. He hung up the phone and so did I, my arm fell limp and dropped the phone before I started wailing into my hands.

Well, that went poorly.

"Tsubame! Welcome to America!" I extended my hands as she batted them away with a face of indifference, tugging her suitcase behind her as she glanced warily at the English signs all over the airport.

"I'm beginning to worry about following the courses all in English," her voice was crispy as her gray-blue hair shifted along with her black leather coat. It was a cool girl look matched with a short skirt with black high boots.

"Don't worry," I spoke in English before gesturing towards Chia as we followed the purple-haired girl. "I'll just be your speaking partner for your entire life, LOL."

"Are you seriously using English gaming abbreviations to speak with me?" Tsubame instantly switched to her heavily accented English, scrunching up her nose the moment she said that. We walked up to Chia's black car before I slid in, Chia grabbing Tsubame's suitcase as Tsubame slid in beside me.

"Get used to it, you're going into the engineering faculty," I said, pulling the seatbelt across my shoulders, Tsubame did the same, staring outside with awe.

"Give me a brief description of the social norms," she eyed my red hair before gesturing a thumb up towards me. I grinned before nodding, telling her everything that she needed to know about America and their interactions.

She adapted to it very easily.

Walking out with confidence when we reached the school dorms, Tsubame shoved her hands into her pockets while kicking the suitcase casually with her legs, only to catch it with her fingers before following me into the building.

"I have a whole dorm to myself?" she raised her eyebrows when we reached her single suite dorm before blowing out her cheeks and nodding in approval. "GG, TY."

I blinked once before snorting at her words, mentally translating her message.

"Now, would you like me to help you sort out your courses or-"

"I'll make do myself, Sayu," Tsubame smiled slowly before gesturing to the door. "You have a class in five minutes, you know?"

I plastered a questioning smile before shaking my head.

"What could you possibly mean? I don't have a class-"

"Professor Collins, English 302," Tsubame called out boredly as I whipped my hands into my pockets, realizing that my course schedule was gone.

"When did you...?" I gaped at her as the sheet was pulled out of her pockets before she waved it under my nose like bait. I grumbled with a mocking smile before snatching it out of her hands.

"Don't use me as your skipping excuse, now leave before I kick you out of my dorm," Tsubame waved to me with an amused smirk. I sighed before shoving the crumpled paper into my pockets, waving to her the last time before pacing myself to class.

"So tell me, where did you learn whatever you did this morning?" I asked Tsubame after my class. She was munching on her apple with an aloof look, turning the fruit before crunching on it like a squirrel.

"I work with my hands a lot," she stated simply before plastering a simple smile onto her lips. "You have no idea how my dad trained me to work fast on an object."

"It's definitely interesting to know, but I won't question," I leaned forwards before taking an apple from the fruit bowl on her kitchen table and biting into it. "So, are you planning to do five years or four?"

She paused a bit on my question, half shrugging.

"I think four."

"Hm, then you'll have to do 10 courses per year. 5 each semester if you don't want summer school."

"Well, I do think I'll take the summer option since my language skills aren't really on par with the others," Tsubmae swallowed her bite before reaching over for her water bottle.

"Any plans of getting a boyfriend here?" I asked boredly before she blinked at my question, calmly drinking her water before placing it down on the table.

"You?" She asked softly.

"Me?" I tilted my head with amusement when thinking about the proper name for my relationship with Light. "I have a semi-boyfriend, I guess."

"Just don't get hurt," she leaned back in her tall chair and stared at me intensely with her black eyes. "You seem to be someone who would get hurt by choosing the wrong person to love."

I grinned ironically at her words.

"Well, that's actually exactly the problem I'm having right now."

"Then break up with him," Tsubame said simply. "Love is only a fleeting emotion."

"I plan to do that, alright," bobbing my head, I sucked on my lip before breaking the silence. "But the question is if that love is actually fleeting when you can no longer remove them from your mind."

"You have a whole lifetime to forget about him," she closed her eyes before reopening them with a sombre expression. "He's only a few years of your actual life."

I furrowed my eyebrows and looked at her with a conflicted expression.

"Are you saying that from experience or stories?"

"My dad's," she added with a dark smile. "His first love was not a good one."

"Oh," was all I could say before staring at her quietly.

"How far are you into the relationship?" She tilted her head and leaned forward. "Would you die for him?"

Would I?

My mind whirled at the possibilities.

"No, but without him, it's better off dying."

I gasped at my own words that flew out of my mouth, making Tsubame's face morph into surprise. I instantly cringed from my statement before shaking my head and asking for a redo of that question. But the damage was already done, both to my mind and realization.

"You've fallen quite hard then," she nodded slightly before relaxing. "Make sure you have a clear state of mind after your decision then."

Tsubame had purposefully avoided saying 'breakup,' but instead replaced it with 'decision.' She was telling me to reconsider carefully, but I knew there was really only one choice I could make.

Tsubame was right. Love was a fleeting emotion and it would not last even if Light and I were together. He was just my first love, it might be painful to the core and that I would never forget him, but it was not to the point where I would kill myself.

No, I wouldn't allow myself to cave in.

I pulled back on my seat, inhaling a deep breath before clenching my fists together.

Emotions were just emotions.

I was done moping about the future.

I had to move on as I did with my parents.

They were nothing but people that passed in my life.

I closed my eyes as my shoulders sagged with fatigue.

I had a brighter future than him. I would have everything if I killed him. Friends, career, and money. I wouldn't have to worry about anything else. What was love? Love was just an emotion that I had to throw away if it hindered everything else.

It was at the point where I even wanted to question why I needed to kill Light. At first, it was because I wanted the Death Note and its ownership. With Light living, I would not be able to use the Death Note as I wanted. I would have to get his permission for everything or make up an excuse to help him. But once Near was gone, what did I even need the Death Note to help him with?

If he found out that I was planning to betray him, love would not save me.

Light would kill me despite everything we had going on.

And the constant reminder that I had joined the mafia would edge him to find out everything I did in the group, along with my lie towards Henrik. If it somehow got out that I knew the future, Light would not hesitate to kill me or use me for his own use. The way he looked at me would change.

There was no other option.

I wilted before opening my moist eyes.

Get rid of the emotion. I have no need for it.

It was two weeks after Tsubame's arrival in America before something appeared in front of me in the middle of the night. I was stunned and in a half scream, frozen in place as I registered the dirty wrapped bandages that were bound around his head. His mouth was shaped into a canary beak and while he opened them, only a total of six sharp daggers twitched like the antennas of an insect's. His arms were feeble and folded into his coat, eyes twitching in the opposite sides as his collar fluttered in the air. The slits of his eyes reminded me of Rem's as his thin and pointy finger pointed directly at me, his mouth moving.

"Shinigami," I breathed out in alarm before sitting up in my bed, hair flying around my face as I brushed it away from my eyes. I panted, my heart thumping in my chest like no other day.

"Since you already know of my existence, this makes it a lot easier," his male voice rasped out only weakly that it somehow relaxed all the tension away from my stiff shoulders. His aura was unlike Ryuk or Rem's, silencing and intimidating me with fear. He was more normal, almost seemingly pathetic as his eyes glanced around the room, trying not to meet mine as if shy.

"Give me back my Death Note."

I blinked at his words, twisting the corners of my mouth up and down in amusement before letting my covers fall from my tightly clenched fists, leaning to the side before pulling the chain attached to my lamppost. Light seeped into the room as I got a closer look at him. He had a pair of smaller wings and seemed more like a bird than anything.

"What's your name?" I asked with a full grin when I saw his wandering eyes lay on my face, flickering back and forth as if nervous.

"Sidoh," he answered rapidly, "now give me back my Death Note."

"It appears we have a conflict," I laughed before shaking my head. "It's not yours, it's mine."

"I-it was mine, to begin with!" He screeched with his wings quivering behind him. "If it wasn't for Ryuk for stealing my Death Note in an illegal way-"

He sputtered.

"Hold on," I raised my hand up to silence him. Surprisingly he did so, being completely obedient despite him being a God. "The Death Note I have is Rem's past one."

Sidoh grumbled before stamping his foot with impatience.

"It was interchanged so much that no one can tell anymore! I just need a Death Note or else I will die!"

So that meant that he somehow met with Ryuk and tracked down all the past history of the exchanges?

I mouthed a small 'oh' before staring at him, running the facts in my mind. That was right, I was the only one who had touched all the Death Notes that were present in this world except Ryuk's. I was able to see him, so that made sense that the note I had would still allow me to see his figure. Then one of the notes was actually Sidoh's.

"That's weird, haven't you heard from Ryuk that my brother had another note? Why did you not go to him?"

Sidoh winced a bit before grumbling with a frustrated expression.

"The other owner of the Death Note completely ignored me!"

Ah, I see what made him seek out the other option.

"So let me get this straight," I repeated slowly so that he could follow. "You want the Death Note because you're running out of lifespan."

"Of course! Now hurry up and give me back my note!" He flapped his foldable wings as I gave him a small smile. Ideas ransacked my brain before I spoke up, my plans for the future popping in like a water stream.

"Not yet, but I want you to make a deal with me, then I'll give you the book." I twisted my head sideways as his yellow eyes instantly widened.

"I will give the ownership to one of my fellow workers, and they'll make eye contact with you, that way you'll be able to live on for a couple of more years. Once I kill the person I want to, you can have the book back."

"...Then when are you going to kill the person?" The Death God murmured as I smiled sweetly at his short stature.

"Soon," I echoed in the silent room, heart-squeezing in pain when I was saying it. "The longest time would be another year."

The Death God paused as if sensing my hesitance.

"Then I agree with your deal," Sidoh nodded obediently before waddling towards my room chair that was positioned across from my bed. "But you'll have to promise that the person you want to kill will die before next year."

I nodded slowly before flickering my gaze to the pendant that lay on top of my bed table. Taking the ice-cold object with my fingers, I slung it over my neck as it dropped between my breasts.

"Tomorrow," I spoke softly while never tearing my gaze from the necklace. "Tomorrow morning the new owner will make the deal with you."

"But remember, the one and only owner of the book is me," I pushed my eyes away towards the shinigami who squawked in surprise from the intensity of my gaze.

"If I see you trying to cheat your way into getting the note, you will not only never be able to get it back," my voice darkened dangerously before quirking up with a small smirk. "I will also make sure you wither away like sand."

Sidoh's beak trembled and lowered his gaze like a coward, grumbling his agreement under his breath before I smiled.

"Don't worry, as long as you follow my orders, I will reward you with the food that humans eat."

With that, Sidoh's eyes slightly widened in interest.

I never knew that Shinigamis could also eat chocolate.

I stared in amazement at the bandage-wrapped head chomp happily on the candy bar that I gave him, murmuring like a bird before raising his happy eyes at the bar and munching on it again. I tried to avoid his wiggling teeth that reminded me of bugs and stared at Mello who's eyes flashed red from the contract.

"Mello," I called, snapping back his attention towards me.

"You will be unable to write any names that have come in contact with this base," I pointed to the ground that he stepped on as the words registered into his mind. "You will also not be able to write anyone who I introduce you as a 'friend.'"

Making sure that he heard my words, I nodded silently before pausing for a minute. I never actually wrote a name in the Death note before. Did that mean that I haven't officially used it? Sure I wrote the cause of death, but was my lifespan still viewable on top of my head?

I was pretty sure the user of the Death Note couldn't go to heaven or hell, and that was tellable depending if the eyes could show my lifespan.

"Mello can you see my lifespan?" I pointed on top of my head as his eyes searched above me, nodding slowly before telling me that he could see numbers. My eyes widened before whipping over to Sidoh and confirming my suspicions.

"No, actually only the owners of the Death Note cannot see the lifespans of other owners," Sidoh cleared my suspicions as I turned back with a frown before I asked him about what 'officially' using the Death Note meant.

"Would it have to be a name? Or does writing only the cause of death count as using the Death Note?" I questioned again.

"I'm not sure about the details, but as long as you write on it, then it counts in using the note." He replied immediately as I hooted. There were several theories about the users of the Death Notes becoming Death Gods in the future, which meant that there was a high chance that I could become a God after death.

Well, there was also a theory about how Light could go into an infinite loop from human to shinigami then reincarnate into a human again to complete his 'new world' goal. It was something about a case called Beyond Birthday who had the Shinigami eyes from birth despite being a human.

If I remembered correctly it was a pre-Kira case that was handled by L. But because of the existing case, it was most likely that Death Gods were actually able to reincarnate into humans back again. But the question remained, how exactly would they be able to do that?

Was it possible that the original user of the Death Note was killed by a heart attack then somehow was preserved and revived when their shinigami form died? But that was impossible, wasn't it? Once a person died by the Death Note, they would remain dead...?

"Sidoh, is it possible to undo a death?" I turned towards the shinigami who lifted his mouth covered with chocolate to stare at me.

"There is, but that requires a Death Eraser."

I gasped.

"Where is it?" I asked while rapidly blinking, instantly in front of Sidoh and leaned towards him, excited. "Where is it? What is it? Is it in this world? Can a human use it?"

"Hold on, that's too many questions!" Sidoh backed away as his back pressed into the wall fearfully like a cornered mouse, squeaking at me to stop my endless questions. I leaned back waiting for him to explain.

"The Death Eraser can be used on the person as long as they haven't been cremated," he answered slowly before taking out an eraser from his sleeves. "Every Shinigami has one."

I gaped at him before staring at the plain eraser, asking if I could touch it. Sidoh instantly placed the eraser on my hand as I twirled it in between my fingers, feeling the texture. It was like an eraser, round with scratches of Sidoh using it in the past and squared in the corners.

"Thanks," I nodded before placing the eraser back in his extended hand. "It's interesting, but it's not like I can use it anyways."

"You don't have anyone you want to test it out on?" Sidoh stared at me curiously before I shook my head. The people that I wanted to kill were people that could not exist in this world. If I had to revive someone, it would be L if I didn't exist inside of the anime.

"Okay then," I drew out a long sigh before turning to Mello. "You will not be able to tell anyone about the Death Note, and you will protect it with your life."

Mello's mouth remained shut as he nodded grudgingly. I only smiled at his reply, gesturing to the book with my finger.

"From now on, you will write the name of all the influential CEOs in the death note, followed by the cause of death being 'will follow Sayu Yagami's orders until their original lifespan.'" I gestured to the TV in my office, telling Mello to take a seat and open it.

I grinned maliciously as I watched Mello's moving mouth wanting to curse at me but clamping shut because of my previous orders. My dear papa, it seems like the mission you gave me might be completed before the end of next year.

"What?" My mouth instinctively gaped open as Tsubame's voice rang out of my cell phone.

"Channel 23 right now," she stated simply before hanging up to attend her class. Instantly, I picked up the remote control on my office desk, changing the channel to 23 before the face of someone high in position came on top of the stage. The man was wearing a black suit and standing under the American flag while holding a folder in his hands. He shuffled them onto the stand before looking directly into the camera and clearing his throat.

"I would like to announce our acceptance of Kira in America."

My eyes wandered to the bottom of the screen, reading the white, running words before noting that this person was the vice president for America.

"With the recent incident, as you all know, it has come to America's conclusion that Kira is helping with the criminal punishment and is not at all a threat to those who cooperate in society."

A bunch of camera flashes echoed the face of the vice president as the murmurings of people started to rise up. I tilted my head for a moment, trying to understand exactly what the recent incident was. I was not an avid watcher of the news or keeping up with the ongoing politics in America. But I could probably guess from what Light told me he was going to do for the future of America.

"Do you think the death of the President was justifiable?!" A reporter yelled out over the crowd.

Ah, there it was. The incident.

I shifted back into my seat as I watched the vice president explain the wrongdoings of the past President who died from a heart attack. Light was quicker than I had expected, only taking a single month to execute his plan and getting America to agree with the Kira plan.

"America will officially accept Kira, that is all," the vice president bowed before bidding his thanks and walking out of the stage. I shrugged and turned off the TV, picking up my school backpack from the side of my desk and slung it over my shoulders. Pacing towards the door, I headed towards the car that Chia was waiting for me in.

"My brother works fast," I said simply as we came back from Harvard after just bidding farewell with Tsubame. Chia's eyes turned into the rear mirror to see my indifferent expression before turning back in silence.

"Are you conflicted?" She said softly as I laughed numbly.

The faster Light moved, the closer he would pull my decision and action on his death.

"I've moved on," I said with a sigh, shifting my eyes outside of the window to see the countless people moving on their feet and going to places. "I have cornered myself to a place where there is only one option."

Chia nodded slowly before turning back her focus onto the road. I closed my eyes slowly before flipping open my phone and calling Miyara. The phone rang twice before Miyara picked up with a surprised tone.

"Miyara, can you keep an eye on the Japanese government? If you get any information that Japan is accepting Kira, call me."

"Okay," she gruffed out before speaking again. "Honestly, why have you guys graduated so early? I don't understand."

"It's because we all want to make an impact in history, Miyara," I chuckled before answering her question.

"Why not just take your time and pass through life? You guys are torturing yourselves with work."

"Is someone feeling salty that we've left you in Japan?" I teased as I felt Miyara splutter in her end.

"Of course not! It's just that all of you-that young miss, Tsubame, Isame, and you-" she sighed as her voice came out a bit weak. "I sort of miss the beginning when we started high school."

The beginning. Yes, that was also around the time that I was shoved into Sayu's body. I smiled wryly and closed my eyes.

"The past is history, Miyara. We can only move on. If you have time, keep an eye on the other countries too. Report to me if there are any changes."

And with that, I hung up.

Canada has accepted Kira's justice.

Russia has contemplated on the acceptance of Kira.

India has followed America on the acceptance of Kira.

China has agreed to accept Kira's execution.

My eyes lay on my workbook as I read the report from Miyara.

Sayu, Sakura TV has established itself as the Kingdom of Kira.

I raised my gaze from my books and pressed in Light's phone number before waiting for the ring to echo through the line. It had only been 2 days since America's acceptance of Kira. Light was moving way too fast as if he was being pressured by someone. But I knew it wasn't Near. It wasn't nearly the 13th day since I gave Near the note, not to mention I didn't count in the shipping days.

It took around a week to ship over the papers, and if I actually were to count the days that passed, it was the 12th day since Mello had made a phone call to Near. Why was Light rushing so much?

Wait for me, Sayu.

His previous words rang in my mind as they replayed themselves over and over again in my mind.

Was it because of me? No, but why would he?

The rings went into voicemail as I clicked my tongue in annoyance, flipping the phone back down before turning to face the remote control and pressing the 'on' button.

Russia has accepted the reign of Kira!

Kira was all over the news. I fumed at Light's action of not picking up. But I did not blame him at all, I knew what he was dealing with. Most likely Near had already started to question Light into being Kira and was holding him under strict surveillance by installing suspicion into Mogi or Aizawa about the 13-day rule. Though it shouldn't have been at the point where Light couldn't pick up his phone.

Did Near bluff his way for the suspicion?

No, I also made sure to place doubts in Near through my own words to the Kira Taskforce.

My finger tapped impatiently on the desk as I contemplated on my actions. I was 5 courses away from graduating. I stood up before flipping over my phone again, this time directing my phone call towards the President of Harvard.

Australia has accepted Kira's ways.

Light was leaving almost no space for the countries to oppose. If the government of a country opposed Kira, their citizens would resist with violence and Kira would kill some members of the government who had committed acts such as adultery, fraud, counterfeit, or anything that were seen as crimes.

Following only hours of their deaths, Kira would send in files of their crimes to the country's most famous broadcasting, justifying and sending out the messages that he would not kill innocents. Though it only happened once because the countries did not want to challenge Kira's wrath, it was by this time that I realized that Light was not working alone.

He did not only pass the Death Note to a single person. He probably passed it onto multiple people, by either ordering the first holder to rip some of the pages of the Death Note out and hand it to similar supporters of Kira. The question was, how many people were holding the pages of the Death Note? Knowing Light, he would not hand it out to more than 4 people around the world.

He didn't have enough time and did not want the situation to be out of control. I tapped my pencil hard on my desk as my English professor went over the poetic devices in the poem again, calling out my name in the empty classroom just to make sure that he had my attention.

Yes, I was binging my studies again. Just like I did in high school and it was fairly easy because of my past life's major which was also in English. It wasn't smart to stay in America anymore, knowing that Light was moving way too fast for my comfort. It had occurred to me that the plot was completely out of my hands now that I had moved away from Japan, not being in the Kira task force or even near the HQ that was my house.

I scribbled furiously as the professor handed me an in-class essay assignment.

"-I will also be getting rid of those who will not contribute positively to society-"

The news broadcast rang through the message that Miyara sent me. Yes, indeed the plot did not fail to select similar people. Mikami had appeared as the 4th Kira. I shut my phone and slid it into my pockets as the Dean of the Arts faculty called my name through the mic.

Sayu Yagami, graduate at Harvard University, Arts faculty, English Major.

I was barely 19 when I finished my second degree.

"Chia, did you get the number of deaths caused by heart attacks?" I asked before throwing my jacket on the couch and plopping down on my office chair. Chia nodded and handed me a file before I flipped it open, staring at the numbers in all of the countries.

"What is the average speed a human could write in three hours?" I tallied up the total number of deaths which counted up to 380 deaths per day. The reason why I chose three hours was that the Death Note was written by hand, and even if you wrote for three consecutive hours, the writer would be forced to take a break or soon get tired of writing in the book.

"40 letters per minute, which becomes 2-3 names in a minute," Chia counted before giving me her total. "180 names per hour, 540 in three hours."

Three hours. Was the maximum concentration timespan for a human without breaks.

"Okay," I nodded slowly before writing down the numbers. "That's the worst a person can do. I know Light doesn't have enough time to be writing exactly for 3 hours per day with him organizing the files and being under surveillance from Mogi."

I flipped another page and gazed at it.

"If we simplified this, and say, a person writes one name from looking at the screen then copying the name into the book, doing a double-take at the face, we can estimate that one name would take around one minute."

I calculated again.

"One name per minute, 180 names every three hours."

"The highest number a person could write would be approximately 540 names per day, the lowest would be 180," Chia nodded while I placed the folder on my desk.

"But that's still overestimating the numbers," I pointed to Japan for the highest death count in the heart attacks. "I don't think even the normal human would take interest in killing that many people in a day. The only information we have for sure is that the Kiras are centred around Japan-"

"-and Italy," was what I said before flickering my gaze at the second-highest location.

"Italy was the place that opposed the reign of Kira," Chia concluded with me before understanding what I was trying to say. "Italy Kira was the one to send in the files to the broadcast."

"Exactly," I nodded before leaning forwards and placing my chin on the back of my hands. "380 deaths per day from the files. Light's speed would round up to 130 names per day from the columns that I've seen in his book before."

It was the day that I went into Light's apartment and wretched the Death Note from his hands where I observed the pace he was writing in. Four columns, 40 names per page. The one thing that Light did that I took advantage of was that he was using ink. From ink, I could easily tell whether or not it was fresh.

"But that's only on the fact that your brother was free from surveillance," Chia added. "I assume that the count would only decrease because of Near."

"We can estimate it to be 65 words per day as I remembered from the future," scrunching up my expression, I tried to recall a youtube video that talked about how fast Light Yagami was killing per day when L was alive. In my memories, I was sure that the number was close to the sixties. Just in case, I would use the midway number of the sixties.

"Let's say that since the new Kiras are not under the pursuit of detectives, they would write 180 names during the span of three hours and take breaks. By subtracting Light's 65 names per day, we have 315."

I finished calculating on paper.

"315 divided by 180 would be 1.75, meaning that there are probably more than two people but less than four users of the Death Note."

Knowing Light and the references from the anime, there was a high possibility that Japan Kira was Mikami. From what he was like in the anime, I remembered him to be a bit... passionate about reforming society. With that passion, I could only assume that 80% of the deaths in Japan were written by him.

"Two people," I pursed my lips at my own conclusion. "Light is probably writing the names to spread the influence while the second Japan Kira is solely focusing on his own country."

My eyes flickered back to Italy on the world map.

"Light probably sent the third Kira to Italy after opposition from the government," I gave a small grumble before reflecting on the information. "But the question was how in the hell did they get information on the fraud and stuff committed by the government?"

"It's Kira's reign right now," Chia said slowly before turning to me. "There will be no one who doesn't believe Kira with the reputation he has."

"Are you saying this third Kira fabled everything?" I raised my eyebrows before turning towards the files again. "It's possible."

"Evidence can be fabled especially with the Death Note," Chia bobbed her head and added. "Most likely Italy Kira had controlled the victims before death."

I slid my phone out of my pocket before dialling Felix's number. Henrik was currently in charge of his America bases because of the recent bubbling activity of the other mafia gangs. As I thought beforehand, Henrik's humble and polite compensations had gathered enough support from the American media that the local groups were starting to hate on him.

"Alyona?"

"Yeah, Felix, could you please find me a list of supporters in the Kingdom of Kira from Sakura TV that have gone abroad?"

I paused a moment before adding on.

"You're currently in charge of Henrik's Japan base, right?"

"Yes, the boss left me in charge. I'll email it to you when I get it."

I thanked him before hanging up and puffed in pride at the use of connections. Looking at my old flip phone, I smiled secretly before ordering Chia to get me the newest Samsung touch phone. Android was my preferred system.

"Found it," I pointed to the computer that was a type from two years ago. "Riku Yamamoto, age 26 and he is an office worker for the company Ryohosei that usually sends their workers aboard."

The place he travelled to just a few days before the Italy incident had matched up exactly with his current location, which was also in Italy. He had also gone with his coworker, and I had also placed that person on the suspicion list, but his partner was not an avid fan of Kira.

"I don't understand, Alyona," Chia said. "Why are you so sure that the third Kira is in the Kira kingdom?"

"Because that was what happened in the future," I turned my shining eyes at my assistant. "In the future, there were also two people that Light had chosen to take his place of Kira. Mikami, the passionate fan, and another girl who Light tried to seduce who was also from the Kira kingdom."

"But the future has changed due to your actions," Chia reminded me. "Are you still sure that your brother would follow that path?"

"I can already see the changes caused by me," I leaned back into my chair. "The girl who was supposed to remain in Japan was now changed into this new character who travelled abroad to expand the influence of Kira."

I gestured to the screen.

"Chia, make sure you keep tabs on this man. If I'm correct in my assumptions, then he will soon move to another country that has not accepted Kira yet."

Chia nodded before taking out her phone to note it down.

"Seems like Light has all his plans intact," I whistled. "One to stay in Japan to continue the killings of the original Kira, the other to expand his power. If this Riku person really were to travel to different countries, and hype up the kill count while Light distracts Near by placing suspicions onto himself..."

"...By the time Near starts to inspect the possibilities that someone else is Kira, the marks from Riku would have already been made."

"You're saying that your brother is purposefully stalling Near in order to create the illusion that there are more than two Kiras out there?" Chia's eyes widened at my words.

"Yes, in fact, the chance of Riku bringing a worker with him to travel abroad might also be Riku's cover-up," I smirked slightly at the new character that Light had chosen.

"He's chosen a very smart individual," I mused at the difference between the anime and this timeline. "There is no way that Light had the time to get in contact with those two Kiras. All I can say is that this Riku character is quite the careful and meticulous person."

"Sending him to expand Kira's power would also relieve the focus on Japan specifically," Chia agreed. "Should I note down to kill Riku Yamamoto, then?"

"No," I shook my head before smiling widely. "My brother is not the type to share his toys with other people. There are two options he can do. One, use the two people as bait and lure Near towards them. When Near gets his hands on the fake Kiras, Light will kill them."

"Or two, they both survive till the end and Light kills Near off. But I doubt that's highly impossible with us backing Near," I drummed my fingers on the table to a conclusion. "We'll kill them after Light dies."

"But before that," I whisked my chair towards her and smiled condescendingly. "I'm going back to Japan."
