Chapter 52
Chapter 52
"This looks good," I hummed happily as I stared at the fourth floor of my base. Turning to look at the eight blindfolded prisoners of Castor that were tied to their chairs, I gestured to Chia to take off the bags that covered their heads. Instantly, the bodies jerked awake from her sudden action, looking at me in confusion and fatigue. Every one of them had a cloth tied around their mouth so that they couldn't die by biting their tongues.
"Alright, attention prisoners, this is your chance to redeem yourself," I clapped as all of them continued staring at a 17-year-old's face. I snickered before gesturing to the battleground before me.
I explained the rules briefly and if they went against the rules, they would be tortured into a death that was not even humanly possible. All their faces paled when I described the ways of torture before smiling maliciously at how my use of words had scared them shitless.
The rules were simple, go in there and be the last one standing.
The guns were filled with real bullets so that they would actually die if they were to get shot. They were able to use any equipment located in space as weapons or shields. The last one standing would be rewarded as a free pass to leave the base, without my members touching them.
"And how do we know that you'll keep your promise?!" A guy shouted out as his chair rocked from his movements. I placed a hand on my chest smugly before smirking a bit.
"I will be joining the game too."
The guy jerked back into his seat, staring at me with disbelief.
"Mind I also tell you, I am the boss of this base, daughter of Henrik, and the owner of several American brands," I tapped my chest with a half shrug. "Is that enough to get you going?"
Several glances were exchanged between them almost too quickly as if they were having a conference with their gazes. They knew that even if they won, there was a high possibility that my members would still kill them. But if I was joining, then it was an entirely another thing. Being captured basically already meant death, then if so, why not take down an important figure that would become a threat to them in the future?
I watched as they twerked their eyebrows and twitched their eyes before laughing a bit, telling them that they had 20 minutes to discuss as I needed to prepare for the battle. I walked out of the room and into the control room that was linked directly next to the battle room and had bulletproof glass that was see-through only from the inside.
I plopped down the couch located in the back of the control room before waiting for the 20 minutes to pass by. Honestly, I was already quite prepared beforehand since this was the event of the week. I had been waiting anxiously for the arrival of this game and had told my members to take note of all the statistics of the prisoners.
They were already playing in my grasp. Well, most of it, anyway. I wouldn't die because my members had sneakily injected drugs into their system, and the more they were hopping around on the battlefield, the more the poison would spread.
Chia beside me handed me a bottle of water as she turned her eyes back to the glass which separated us and the prisoners who were shouting at each other after having the gag taken away from their mouths. A few other of my members snickered at their conversation in which the prisoners themselves probably knew we were listening in but did not care since their life was on the line.
I watched with an amused smile before my mind flashed back to yesterday in the park with Light. He had questioned my motives for staying in the mafia after accepting the fact that I made a deal with Hugo, giving him the pages of the Death Notes to act as a distraction for L in the HQ.
I had told him that I wasn't necessarily lying to him about the pages of the Death Note.
"I made a deal that they would kill criminals for me, and I would become their spy for another mafia group," my own voice echoed the words I had told him during our conversation.
My story was well thought out: I had given the pages to Hugo, but he disobeyed and used it to harm innocent citizens, which was a cover-up for the deaths that I had caused in the past with heart attacks that Kira had not done. Because Hugo disobeyed, I ran back to destroy their base and burn down the notes while I was at it.
I got captured, and they tortured the shit out of me for betraying them. This version honestly made much more sense than me suddenly running to the mafia and trying to find out the reason for the mafia cases found during L's investigation.
My thoughts snapped back to reality after Chia called me a few times about the 20-minute mark. Shuffling to my feet, I walked back into the battlegrounds to greet the positive responses from the test subjects. My eyes flickered to each and every one of them, taking in their appearance and locking on their different builds.
There were a total of 6 men and 2 women that were captured.
I nodded as the lights behind us flickered on, blinding some of them as they gawked at the field before them. The field I had created had big enough dimensions to run a total of 20 minutes from the control room and straight to the other side. I had put a hefty amount of money in the field, which was no wonder some of the test subjects started sputtering about the size and realistic designs.
"You're still a spy for another group," Light's voice interrupted my mind again as his words warned me of my betrayal. "You will find out all their real names, and hand me their lives yourself."
"Alright, since you have all decided, we each get a total of 10 minutes to wander the space before the guns are allowed to be pulled out," I took a long sniper from the weapon table and fastened it onto my back while heading out into the forest mode. The moment my feet stepped onto the grass, it dawned on me that my creation could change the lives of battle royale players.
Yes, instead of playing on an online and mobile platform, I will polish this plan and bring it out into the open. I will create my own company and advertise a new sport. Of course, it wouldn't be real guns, rather, fake bullets that could put people in a mild coma, but the money that I would gain from gamers...
I chuckled darkly before changing into a sprint through the countless trees and forests. There were carts located in some of the hidden spots that were only findable if you tried searching for it. Those consisted of items like the rifle, SMG, heavy guns, and many more. But those weapons had their own rarity.
The sniper was the rarest, which was why I chose the weapon to be my starting one. My feet skidded to a stop in front of a watchtower that had a box at the top. My chest rose up rapidly as I pushed my feet off the ground, panting and climbing at the same time.
"Are you willing to kill him for me?" Light's voice echoed once again as I slipped a bit on the watchtower at his dark question from yesterday. He wasn't asking me if I was willing to abandon the entire mafia for him.
No, in fact, Light did not know about my attachment to anyone else other than whoever I got the lily tattoo with.
"Of course," I remembered replying before smiling slyly at Light who was holding me in his arms. "It's an arranged marriage anyway."
I flung myself onto the board of the watchtower, wheezing from the workout I had just done at the start of 5 minutes. Needless to say, the stamina and martial arts training had really kicked in at this point. I didn't feel weak at all and instead, I felt rejuvenated.
I felt alive.
Light had a skeptical raise of his eyebrows at my answer, though he didn't question it, only placing his chin on my forehead before murmuring the words that I could never leave him repeatedly with a dark growl. At the time, I giggled at his obvious jealousy before poking back at him as we talked for a couple more hours then parted because he had a schedule with Misa.
I felt the cold board of the tower calm my sweating body before I sat up and grabbed the item box and threw the lid open to reveal an SMG and 130 bullets of ammo that was packaged in plastic. Tearing the package apart and slipping the ammo into the small pouch that was prepared in the box, I readied my weapons.
SMG, huh?
I weighed the material in my hand as I frowned a bit.
Definitely wasn't my weapon of choice in games since I often went with the sniper + rifle combo, but it would do. I peered over the short walls that surrounded the board, acting as a shield to prevent any ongoing fire. The watchtower was designed similarly to a hot balloon, but instead of having the balloon as the top, it was covered with a hay-made roof.
Their targets should first be me.
I snickered as the announcement for the 10-minute ceasefire had ended, officially starting the game. Then I should probably fake my death mid-game so I could watch them kill each other off in a different area on the field. It was easy because I was the only one that wore a military jacket along with a bulletproof vest in between them. As long as I could kill at least 2 of them off, one being a woman, I could do something with her face.
I steadied the sniper before catching a blonde-haired woman in my scope.
Aha, found you~
She was running, looking around frantically with a small pistol in her hands. Her boots sloshed into a puddle of water before she stepped out of it and continued moving. Aiming the red dot on her head, I instantly pressed the trigger the moment she had stopped to take a breather.
Bang!
The sound of my sniper announced itself throughout the whole field as the woman's blood spurt out like a popped water balloon and fell onto the ground, cold.
I whistled myself well done before staring at the sniper in my steady hands.
All that training with guns the moment I came here was worth it! I chucked before remembering my first experience with the weapon, hands trembling from the shock it had received the moment I fired it at the target like some kind of newbie.
I should probably find some kind of silencer...
"Found you!" I heard a throaty grunt before a man ran out of the bushes, firing his rifle at the leg of the tower. I gasped as the leg collapsed, tilting the whole thing forwards as I slammed into the small side and the roof toppled over onto me. Prominent lines between my eyebrows appeared as I held my breathing, feeling the numb and tingling sensation in my right leg that had taken most of the damage in the fall. It wasn't bleeding, but I could tell it had a sprain.
"Hah! Not so smart are you?" I heard the man walk closer with a click that was most likely directed at the roof that was covering me from his sight. I directed my sniper at the roof before thrusting my other leg onto the hay shield and pulling the trigger as rapidly as I could for a sniper. The roof slammed into his body along with my constant firing that blocked his screams. Each time, I felt the weapon's butt knock onto the ground from the impact.
"Urk!" I heard his voice as I crawled out of the toppled structure and accidentally sploshed my hand in a pool of his blood. It was warm as I struggled to stand up on my feet, staggering to his rifle before snatching it away from his corpse.
I frowned at the weight that it had put on my leg and tossed the rifle onto the ground with a grumble. I could still run, that was no problem, but the dull pain shot up each time as I took a step.
"Looks like I'd have to change my plans and move to an all sniper formation," I shuffled my feet into a small run, breaking forwards onto the next layer of the map that I had memorized beforehand.
One-shot, two-shot, three-shot.
I hooted on the edge of a cliff as I watched my enemies fall down one by one before even realizing that they were being seen through the small scope on my sniper. The game was much to my advantage, with all the map layers and weapons that I had memorized.
But honestly, it was fair game because I couldn't beat them in close combat due to my lack of experience in fights.
The sniper was truly my best friend when I didn't want to engage with professionals.
"Oh, where are you~" I sang like a maniac, humming with a creepy tone as I looked back at the forest below me. The drug should be starting to hit their stamina pretty soon.
"Bring me your heads, bring me your death, bring a silver platter in the dead~"
"Three survivors left."
Chia's voice broadcasted through the microphone as my grin widened from the Black Survival game reference.
Oh? Seems like someone killed off their comrade.
There were a total of 9 people including me.
I had killed 5 in the distance, which left 4 people including me.
I chuckled darkly before pulling my sniper away and moving into a different location since this one was probably revealed by the sound of my bullets.
I sat on top of a thick tree that camouflaged my green military clothes perfectly. Laying there, I slung over my injured foot and started bandaging it up with tape. Round and round the tape went on my ankle as I finished with a yank and a hiss from my own brute force. The purpose of this was not to heal my foot in any way but to numb it so that it wouldn't distract me.
I threw the tape onto the ground that I had gotten from the item box just a few minutes ago, and stared up at the sky, pondering on how to improve the game for future use. Definitely, in battle royales, one of the most crucial things was that even if you got hit, you could use bandages to refill your HP.
Not to mention pain was non-existent except for the grunts or screams that your character would let out after being shot. I paused. Then should I make the bullets some kind of stunner? It would physically stun the player, then the bandages could be transformed into an injection to relieve the stun?
That would work better than paint guns or anything. In order to make the game seem as realistic as possible, physical pain would definitely be needed. But to go as far as injecting the reliever into the bloodstream...
The officials nor the public would not like it.
But whatever, since I had the Death Note, no one would be able to stop me. And that of course, needed me to obtain the Death Note.
I hopped onto the ground before taking out my SMG and reloading the bullets.
It was time to hunt for my prey.
"Oh, where are you~" I sang out and walked through the forest, listening closely to any sounds of shufflement in the bushes or trees. This game was way too much at my advantage because by now, they should be immobile or at least, be huffing on the ground.
It was another good idea that I had since I could potentially create a real-life battle royale without my clients getting hurt or something, I could also create another type of battle royale that used stamina-inducing drugs.
It was one of the items that the experiment unit had created for their first task. Nothing major and nothing too small. The drug would be injected into the bloodstream and slowly take over the body without harming the body itself. In the end, the test subjects would only be immobilized and unable to move.
My eyes carried themselves throughout the open grounds again before I sang out with a malicious grin.
"Come out before I find you~"
It was fun knowing that they could hear me but chose to remain in the dark. It would be more amusing if I could see their expressions while they heard my words. Maybe in a normal mode I should just play with my prey, letting them go and hunting them down just for fun.
I cackled.
Pew!
I felt a cold shrill pass under my cheekbones as my eyes turned towards the direction of the sound. The last remaining woman was on the ground, panting heavily as sweat rolled down her face before she plopped onto her front, burning herself into the dirt.
"You-" I heard her wheeze before she took another breath. "You drugged us-"
Bang!
I felt a yawn coming as I shot her in the head a couple of times, blood splashing onto my clothes before I turned around to search for the last player.
"Two players left."
"Come out, come out wherever you are, let me have some fun! Don't go hiding away in the dark~"
I pouted before a shuffle entered my ears.
"Aha!" I bolted towards the sound before shooting multiple bullets into the bushes.
Ban!
Blood coughed out of my mouth as I felt my left arm start to pool out blood. Pain jerked up so suddenly that I slammed onto the ground, shrieking. Drool dripped out of the corner of my mouth before I coughed again, this time blood splattering everywhere in front of me.
It hurts!
It hurts!
You will pay!
"I finally...caught you-" I heard a deep voice before a man crawled out on his hands from the opposite side of where I shot. He threw dirt into my face as I slammed my left eye shut from the tingling and terrible sensation. He chuckled at my white and glaring face before lifting up his feeble arm and aiming at my head.
No, no, no-
A wave of adrenaline flew into my system as my hand shot out to my weapon.
"Son of a motherfu- '' I yelped and shot all my bullets at him, trying to keep my vibrating grip steady as I rolled away, trying to avoid his attacks. He cried out, falling onto the ground before shooting me one last time in the leg and closing his bloodied eyes.
I huffed, screeching as my members rushed through the forest, forcefully injecting a tube of lidocaine into my neck. Before passing out, I giggled childishly at the blurry Chia who was also returning my expression with one of her own delights.
"Well, that was fun."
Author's note:
Also, if you like playing battle royale but want something more fresh, there's a game called "Black Survival".
It's a crafting battle royale, turn and real time based.
