Chapter 43

Chapter 43

Fainting should be my number one hobby.

What did I do when I first saw Light? Faint.

What did I do when I was in front of L? Faint.

What did I use to avoid my responsibilities and dramatize my situation? Yes, I fainted.

My eyes blinked a couple of times before sighing on my bed. Here was another time skip of avoiding my responsibilities. I turned in my covers before closing my eyes again, burying myself in the heaven of freedom and worry-free place before dreaming of a sunny mellow.

I imagined the flowers dancing in the grass and singing the newest pop song in an opera way to amuse me. The colourless wind blew through my hair as the smell of grass filled my senses, dashing and float-

"I should really install a GPS on your phone," I heard a voice speak lifelessly, completely destroying the pure and happy image that I created. I drew a long breath to show my stress before opening my eyes to face the silhouette of a man.

"That would be helpful to you, Light, but I do not prefer you to go stalker on me since that is a total breach of privacy."

"Yet you cause more trouble when your location is not known," Light's honey-brown eyes glimmered for a second before he walked away from the window and plopped down on the bed I was sleeping in.

"Hey, it's not my fault L whisked me away before giving me time to prepare," I muffled my head back into the pillows before I heard a shift on the mattress. Turning my eyes upwards, Light was hovering above me with a skeptical raise of his eyebrows.

My heart quivered.

The shirt that he wore was brown today, a colour similar to his school uniform shown in the anime. The collar was white and had a button up on his sleeves that were pushed all the way up to his forearms. I flipped over underneath him, gazing into his eyes before giving a tired smile.

"So," I grinned while dragging out the vowel. "Catch me up on the information I've missed."

Light heaved a deep chuckle before getting off of me and sitting properly beside my body.

"L was charged for illegal abduction and enforced torture. Although we can do nothing about it due to the fact that he is," Light paused. "Dead, but we have been paid a fee for compensation."

"Oh?" I raised my eyebrows. "How much?"

"His HQ."

I gaped.

"Wait, so his HQ is a 6 level building, including all the material and technology, and not to mention the property-" I widened my eyes. "Light, that's over at least 8 million dollars!"

"Well," Light pursed up his lips at the thought. "It was more given than actual compensation. Since I am now the successor of the Kira investigation task force, the HQ was the easiest deal that they could give us, not to mention our house was burned during my interrogation."

"Were your interrogations also put on the table?" I wheezed loudly as Light smirked.

"Both mine and Misa's. L was quite rich to be able to provide his property as compensation."

I stared blankly at the ceiling to calculate the things that happened.

L...was no longer the hero.

He was framed as the villain.

"How long was I out?" I uttered.

"A week. We laced you some sleeping pills in your drinks so that you could rest a bit more from the stress that you accumulated in those five days of your abduction." Light answered before rubbing his fingers together.

I was actually gone for five days?

And here I thought that I had only survived for three! Whoot! An achievement accomplished!

"What was the condition I was in?"

"Severe dehydration and malnutrition, including mild hallucinations."

"Hallucinations?" I repeated with a conflicted tone. "What was I doing? Screaming in the middle of the night?"

I quirked my eyebrow at Light who gave me a twitchy smirk that spread wide across his face.

"What?" I snapped, not enjoying the radiant glimmer in his eyes. "What is it? Spit it out!"

"You were screaming my name for the whole entire week."

"What the fuck?"

"Indeed," Light snickered at my reaction before lacing our fingers together. I gasped even louder and shot up from the bed, smacking my other hand onto my mouth.

"Who are you?" I shook with a fearful look of horror. "What have you done to my brother?! Why have you become so OOC?!"

"I am God of the new world, Sayu." He looked at me with serious eyes before casting me a dark, seductive smile. "Without L, I am already a God."

"Yeah, and I bet you screamed in front of his grave being on your hands and knees while laughing evilly," I rolled my eyes before squeezing his hand for a moment. Light's eyes narrowed in confusion before shaking his head.

"Why would I do that?"

"You didn't?" I blinked.

"I was under pressure by L, but not to the point where I would lower myself to that level," Light said carefully, pondering over my words.

"I am surprised," my eyes bulged out at him, slouching down as I studied his calm composure. "You actually admitted it."

"Admitting is not a weakness," Light cocked his head and threaded a hand through his hair with a more victorious sneer. "Similar to how only the last game matters."

His words resonated within me as our memories of playing chess resurfaced into my mind. I watched his broad shoulders and casual attire before realizing something crucial. He seemed...so relaxed.

He was so human.

"Talking about the last game, why were you so late in getting Rem to write L's name?" I parted our hands to cross my arms. "If you were days quicker, I would not need to suffer through all of this."

I gestured to my entire body with a small twitch of my eye, blowing through my cheeks.

"He refused to kill for Misa," Light mentioned with a dark scowl and a tensed jaw that gripped his face like the reaper of death. The dangerous red flashed through his eyes instantly with so much killing intent that it made me flinch. But then he closed his eyes and they dimmed to normal.

"He said that even if he killed L for her, she would suffer even more being the holder of the Death Note," Condescendence rang through his voice before Light clicked his tongue. "He said she would never truly be happy beside me."

Well, that was true.

Misa died because Light was being a total moron.

"You took Rem to see Misa's state," I worded out as Light's eyes flickered to meet mine. "He killed L out of hatred."

"As long as Misa holds a Death Note," Light smiled pleasantly. "L will pursue after her."

"You make L sound like some kind of lovesick puppy," I grinned before shaking my head and turning away from the subject.

"So now you're the owner of two Death Notes and Misa has one?" I asked as Light nodded.

"A pity that an owner can only hold 2 notes at one time," Light gave a half-smile before looking at me carefully. "Sayu, I would give you a book if you wanted to."

I held up my hand and shook my head.

"You know I have aphantasia, Light. I won't be able to help you."

He sighed before throwing back his head so he could relax on his neck.

"Aphantasia, huh?" He murmured. "What a double-edged sword."

"You knew I would refuse it, didn't you?" I narrowed my eyes at him before frowning. "Why the hell would you test me when you knew how I would act?"

"It's a question of trust," Light tapped the covers of the bed, staring at the red flower patterns drawn across the blanket. Hell, he was being honest today.

And what was with that 'question of trust' dammit! You either trust me, or you don't. Pick one Light Yagami! I do not enjoy second-guessing each of your sentences!

"Then let me repay your trust," I rolled my eyes and huffed out. "L has a successor other than you."

Light's eyes widened before sitting up and turned around stiffly. Although his body did not showcase any signs of alarm or relaxation, I knew that his mind was flying a hundred miles per hour. And that was not good.

"I don't know who he is nor do I know where he is," I said before Light could ask.

"All I know is that he is still a child, and needs a few years before actually being able to take the position. If you're claiming as successor, then be careful," I paused. "He will try to ambush you with this fact."

"I will take note," Light nodded calmly before untensing. "Seems like I have time."

Honestly, since Light was in this state, it proved to be better than ever. In the anime, L had pushed him so far that he literally made Light mental. And to be honest, I was theorizing that L was doing that on purpose.

L was 25 years old. He was wise while Light was barely 20 and had a great mindset of a genius. The 5 age difference meant a lot of things. First, L had truly seen that Kira was a child who hated to lose. In order to ruin the criminal, L issued silent challenges again and again to Light.

The surveillance camera, he edged Light to prove that he was innocent and had absolutely nothing to hide. The university incident forced Light to remain calm despite a person who was literally gunning for his life was introducing himself casually. And third, the interrogation incident and how L literally bounded Light with him.

All this served as motives to push Light into a corner. Even if L had lost, he had guaranteed that Light would be mentally exhausted to fight anymore. And with how Kira was so childish, L bet on the fact that Light would grow arrogant.

That was where I stepped in.

I would not allow Light to grow into that ruthless and impulsive monster.

Light still had things to consider after killing his rival if he wanted to rule.

You are a dangerous existence, Sayu.

Ah, I finally understand what L was trying to say. I was a dangerous existence to the world because I was the only one who could steer Light in the direction I wanted him to go.

"Don't tell me you are going to research about L's background," I started fiddling with my hair, twirling around my index finger as I stared listlessly at him. He smiled innocently in reply.

"Why not?"

"Firstly, L goes by a false name. Who knows if he changed his name when he entered a new country?" I raised up my fingers and counted it for him.

"Second, L is mysterious. I tried probing information from Watari this whole time when you lost your memories, and I tell you, he is a famous background character amongst the detective industry."

"You were aiming for his information?" Light's eyes sparkled with glee at my words. It took me a moment to register that the gleam was pride for his smart sister.

"Yes," I spoke carefully before golding out my third finger. "Although Watari's mouth was tightly shut, I learned that L was from an orphanage."

Light raised up his eyebrows questioningly as if to say, 'so?'

"...An orphanage that trains geniuses."

This time, Light gave me a small, 'ah' with his creased forehead.

"Yes, but no matter how much I tried to ask for the information about that orphanage, Watari wouldn't give it to me," I closed my eyes and massaged the bridge of my nose.

"The successor," Light licked his lips as his eyes glazed over to something nonexistent. "We'll get rid of him after forcing the name of the orphanage out of him."

"Yes," I whispered out darkly as Light cast his eyes over to mine with joy dancing inside. "Get rid of anyone who poses a threat to you."

"Sayu! Misa Misa is so glad you're awake!" Misa jumped into my arms as I grunted from her weight before plastering on a pleasant smile. Behind her, Ryuk giggled at me before greeting me with that twisted smile of his. I nodded slightly in greeting back as Ryuk flew towards Light, bemused.

"Misa!" I squealed with all my might before squeezing her tightly. Behind me, I saw Light snort at my actions in which I rolled my eyes at him in response. Yep, there was no way Light would fall in love with her.

"Misa! Did L harm you in any way?! If he even touched a single hair on you," I pushed her body back and forced her to look into my eyes. "I will go to his grave and stomp on him for you!"

Misa giggled before shaking her head.

"Since when was girly friends with the blonde?" I heard Ryuk's voice in the background but I ignored it like a bitch.

"It was nothing against Misa! My dear husband Light came to save me in such a dashing manner, you should see!" She tapped both of her hands and flirtatiously batted her eyes towards Light.

"Oh my! You two are so suited for each other, it's so cute!" I took her hands and squeezed it before Misa returned it with a flushed and embarrassed face.

"Misa Misa thinks so too! Light is perfect for me! It's like we're made for each other!" Misa's pigtails waved as she bobbed her head with me. "Our souls are connected with each other so much that we can understand each other just by glancing!"

Hah! That's the funniest joke you've told in your entire life, Misa. I applaud you.

"Awww, that is so cute!" I almost choked on my own saliva before clasping my hands together without failing to prevent the disgusted facial muscles from twitching. I saw Ryuk's smile falter just a bit at Misa's comment, only to be plastered with an even bigger grin directed at me a second later.

"I really hope I'll find someone who looks at me like how Light looks at you Misa," I said whatever was on the top of my mind, taking some of the youtube comments that I've read in the past to smother her up.

"You must invite me to your wedding," Light made a face at my words before I continued. "I will be your bridesmaid!"

Honestly, right now I really wanted to wheeze.

"Oh!" Misa's face flushed a deep shade of pink before her whole face lit up. "Misa hasn't thought that far yet!"

Light's eyes scowled with irritation as I sneered at him.

"Oh! That isn't good!" I faked a gasp and contorted my expression. "Misa! Your wedding must be perfect! You must, must, must be thinking of how it should go!"

Misa slowly nodded before beaming at my suggestion.

"Yes! You're right! Misa Misa needs to prepare for her and Light's wedding!" Misa bounced up from the bed before skipping over to peck Light on the cheek. A vein popped out in his neck as Misa giggled at Light's hardened face, dragging him away to talk about her wedding dress and his suit.

I cackled at his disappearing build, laughter-filled my frame as I waited for the future in anticipation.

"Girls, I think it's time to address my motives for the future," I said as all three of them turned towards me with their full attention. Tsubame shifted a little before smirking at me, quite happy that I was actually taking her words seriously.

"This girl is aiming to become the world's greatest villain," she pointed at me with her thumb. Miyara shuffled herself before seeing my frown deepen playfully on my face.

"I'm trying to rule the world, not become the villain, TsuTsu. Get that straight in your head."

Just saying those words, Light's 'I will become God of the new world!' phrase came popping into my head as I grunted from how similar my motives turned out to align with Light's, although not fully doing the justice thing and rather the opposite.

I sighed before shaking my head, erasing all thoughts of actually ruling the world and changing it to, I wanna become rich and step on people brain set.

Isame giggled, not telling anyone about the situation she was currently in.
