Chapter 14

Chapter 14

The Death note was much more powerful than I had ever imagined.

I slouched against the wall, squeezing the pillow I had in between my hands.

"Oh, my damn lords." I wheezed in sheer excitement, not believing my plan and theory had worked.

One of the core rules of writing the cause of death had stated: The conditions of death will not be realized unless they are physically possible for that human or could be reasonably assumed to be carried out by that human.

By agreeing with everything I told them to do, it was physically possible. In addition, the power of the Death Note only established that they must follow my orders. Which meant that even if I ordered them to do something impossible, they would still have to agree and attempt it.

Basically, the Death Note granted you the power to manipulate the actions of a person until their death. With my order of 'you must follow everything I say,' it gave me an eternal loop of control on that person.

I had found a loophole.

I legit just prolonged the use of the Death Note's powers.

My mouth dropped at the thought.

With this...I could use the Death Note.

They could write the name for me instead of me attempting to use it with my problems.

It was extremely tiring compared to just simply writing by my own hand, but at least I had a way to use the Death Note without them leaking whatever information I wanted to keep as a secret.

As long as I could give the correct orders, it wouldn't even matter if they were tortured. They could not expose any of my orders.

I shuddered in anticipation by the thought. They were like my own personal minions.

My own, emotionless machines.

Here was the only problem: If I wanted to kill someone personally, I'd have to bring one of my writers to meet the person. And that would be hella suspico-

Wait. Couldn't I just order them to make the Shinigami deal?! Or was that deal only limited to the owner of the Death Note?

Wikipedia, where are you when I need you?!

I thrashed my arms in the air before throwing the pillow. In slow motion, I observed the pillow flipping and spinning vertically with the corners serving as balancing weight to keep the rotation going.

No matter. Once I ask Ryuk I'll have my answer. Though, it's going to take some time before I can grasp Light's trust.

But then again...if I could potentially control all the actions of people before their natural death, doesn't that mean I could also prevent them from doing a certain action?

All three of my friends basically had to execute the actions I told them to, however, their behaviour remained as usual. Did their consciousness change? Were they able to realize what they were doing? I hadn't written about controlling their thoughts so it was possible if their consciousness remained awake.

But then again, even if they were able to see their body movements and their consciousness had a mind of their own, they still wouldn't be able to go against my orders. It was a theory that I had to test later. But obviously, in order to test that theory, I would need to attack them with enough emotional trauma that they would have an actual reaction that breaks the control of the death note.

In addition, what was the limit that the Death Note had in controlling them? Would it even be possible to break the control of the Death Note if one's mind was enough?

I could potentially test the trauma from physical action, maybe through murder or homicide.

Also, what was an impossible order? Something they could not physically do? But what could they not physically do? Like, if I told them to yeet themselves off the highest tower, I could imagine them doing it.

But what if I asked them to break their own arm? Or rip out their own guts? Was that possible? It would be physically possible yet the pain would be so alive that it may stop them from carrying out the order.

But even if I wanted to test it out like that, my friends were too close with me to actually be the cause of some suicide incident. It would be a terrible loss of a pawn, in addition, suspicion would rise to me who was quite close to them.

I needed another person on the death note. Someone that was in school but was not that close with me. I pondered a bit yet no one specific came to mind.

"I'll have to see and move then," I murmured darkly before standing up from my bed and walking towards the window to unhook the satin tie that bunched the curtain cloths together.

Something popped into my head as I froze, the curtain falling gracefully from my hands.

If I could physically prevent an action...doesn't that mean I can basically stop Light from writing my name in the Death Note?

My breath stopped from the realization.

It could work.

That was physically possible.

I could have one of my writers write the name of my brother in the note with that exact condition. But had any of my writers actually seen my brother?

I narrowed my gaze at the sunset, digging into the depths of Sayu's memories before popping up with no information at all. Although my brother was quite famous in our conversations, I did not recall them actually meeting him...or seeing a picture of him.

And the problem with that was that I did not have a phone to take a random picture of him, and show it to my friends.

I'd have to bring them over to my house somehow.

My eyes glinted.

The farewell party.

Yes.

I breathed in.

Yes, that would work.

But should I stop there? Should I just write down the rule to control all Light's actions?

But what's the fun in that?

The voices inside me whispered furiously, whirling out again with crawling mist in my mind.

Don't you want to see him lose to you when he goes full-on out? Don't you want to prove that you are the better one to hold absolute power?

But I don't care about his state. He loses his mind in the end anyways.

I snarled back at them, tearing the image of their flesh one by one as they trembled in pleasure.

Life isn't fun when everything goes your way. Weren't you the one who said that in your past life?

They tempted me with my own words that I mentioned in the past.

You restrict him from killing you, that's already an absolute win.

The whole point of me getting the Death Note was for me to have everything go in my way!

You are blind...

The voices slithered out from the dark, taking control of the dark temptations within me.

Haven't you figured out a way to have everyone in the whole world under your thumb? Just write everyone's name and you will become the ruler of this whole world.

I stopped.

But you're not satisfied with that, aren't you?

Their voices quickened with their short breaths, edging me on.

You want things to oppose you so you can feel the desire and pleasure when you step over them, watching them lose at their own game, begging for their life and at your mercy.

You want to see them bleed, see them suffer for their disobedience...

You are no saint Marie, girl.

They shot out their flimsy black hands before yanking me down to their eye level. Their beady yellow slit eyes stared back at me with so much confidence that I almost felt intimidated.

You like watching them suffer...

Let them feel the pain that you have experienced...

Let all of them who oppose you feel it...

I scoffed at their words, brushing off their limbs before opening my eyes to face Sayu's room again.

I won't control Light's actions wholly, but that's not because of your words.

I closed my eyes and took a deep sigh from my lungs.

I still needed his brain to fight L and Near. If I was able to control Light, I might lose the battle from the moment those two rivals meet. After all, I was no genius. I needed Light's own actions before I could play by my move. He would act as my shield and when the time comes, I will stab him in the back.

"The farewell party will be held at my house this Friday," I said, earning curious looks and delight from my friends at lunch.

"Your parents actually agreed?" Tsubame's eyes widened. "I thought they were pretty strict with your studying?"

I nodded, "but this time they allowed it because my grades were quite high."

"Wow," Aoiko's attention was on her mascara reflected in her silver mirror. "That must have been hard."

"I mean, doesn't she give you the, 'I have a strict police daddy and he doesn't let me have friends' vibe?" Aoiko turned away from the mirror and gestured to me as my friends all exchanged glances.

Miyara shrugged in reply.

"This is definitely a first-timer." She leaned back into her chair before taking out another chocolate lollipop, shoving it into her mouth. "Anything we should know before we enter the devil-dom?"

I raised my eyebrows before smirking.

"I'd appreciate it if you guys don't refer to my house in front of my parents like that."

"Noted." Miyara nodded nonchalantly.

"I'll bring the snacks!" Isame raised her hand and hopped excitedly in her seat. "Anything you prefer, Aoiko?"

"I'll take anything with matcha," She batted her newly finished eyelashes before clicking the stick into her bottle with a tight snap. "Anything."

"You guys?" Isame turned towards the remaining three which included myself.

"Rice crackers and sprite." Tsubame replied with a small 'thank you.'

"I don't have any preference," Miyara shrugged again, rolling her candy from one end of her cheek to the other.

"Some apples would be nice." I smiled sweetly, choosing the much healthier option with a hidden shinigami motive.

"Ah, by the way, my brother is studying for his entrance exams, so we better keep the tone down a notch," I warned before they all nodded silently.

"Also," I opened my mouth and leaned forwards, lowering my tone. "All of you will meet my brother. When you do, burn his facial features into your head and come back immediately to my room. Do you understand, girls?"

"Yes." They all answered in unison before I smiled softly.

"Also, if you see a floating monster beside him, do not scream, do not shout. Do not even make the slightest comment about it." I threatened with a hardened look.

"Ignore its presence and carry on like usual." I finished before shooting them all a look of warning.

"Understood." They nodded as I leaned back into my seat with a satisfied grin.

"Good."

The next day rolled by quickly as the class buzzed with renewed anticipation.

"What's going on?" I glanced around the class and watched all students form small groups to discuss god knows what.

"The cultural fair is coming soon, you didn't notice?" Isame leaned forwards and whispered into my ear, glancing behind me for a quick moment. "Remember Kyotani asked you about it last month?"

My eyebrows knitted in confusion for a moment, glancing weirdly at her.

"Who?"

"Tadashi Kyotani! The guy who you exposed to teacher Hoshino about his love note!" Isame half-shouted before sighing from my expression. "That's so cruel of you, Sayu!"

I shifted uncomfortably, turning my head behind me to catch the jet-black-haired boy who was staring at me with a quizzed smile. Oh...I kinda remember.

"But isn't the cultural fair supposed to be on November 3rd? It's been a month?" I turned back to Isame in confusion.

"Back then it was right before the Kira case happened." Isame flexed her fingers, stretching them before yawning a bit. "The school was in an uproar. But since you skipped class so much, you probably missed it."

"They moved it to Friday because that was the last day before our winter vacation." Tsubame came closer to the two of us.

"Wait, this Friday?" I wrinkled my nose at the sudden event.

"We've been working on it for the past few weeks." Tsubame shrugged. "That's why we're planning to go to your house after the fair."

"Oh." I mouthed, shifting my eyes back and forth between Tadashi who started to stand up from his seat and walk slowly towards me.

"I'm pretty sure Tadashi wants his answer from last time," Isame whispered, blushing and giggling before pulling Tsubame away from me.

Oh shite. I have to deal with this now.

My eyes immediately flickered to my jacket and the thin gloves laying inside my desk before Tadashi coughed bashfully, stealing my attention.

"Yagami, I wanted to ask you about the..." He trailed off, before I held up my head, silencing him.

"Actually, it's quite noisy here." I glanced around as his eyes followed mine. "I was about to take a walk around the school anyways. Do you want to join me?"

I flashed him a soft smile before the tips of his ears turned red.

"Sure! Let me grab my coat!" He beamed and rushed off to his desk, grabbing his moss-coloured winter jacket. I took my own, sliding my arms through the sleeves before taking my gloves and putting them on.

"Let's go?" He raised his hand and gestured to the door with a broad grin as I nodded, stepping out with him. The winter air was chilly while the air slowly painted semi-transparent from our warm breaths.

"So about the cultural fair?" I asked first, breaking the silence. He flushed pink and nodded quietly before matching my pace.

"Is that a date, Kyotani?" I grinned innocently as he cleared his throat, maintaining eye contact.

"I guess...?" He whispered before adding on quickly. "I mean, only if you want it to be!"

"Definitely." I licked my lips, making it moist before he flushed in an even deeper shade of red.

Cute.

"Actually, I was wondering when you'd ask me again." I teased, stuffing my hands in my pockets and tearing the folds of the ziplock bag with my index and thumb. "That last attempt in asking me was asking for trouble."

I rolled my eyes and nudged him in the arm, giggling playfully as he stumbled sideways before twisting the corners of his lip up and down. I could tell he was trying to push down the grin with all his might, yet he failed epically.

Quite the expressive person, huh?

"I wouldn't have made you wait so long if you didn't rat me out." He puffed out his cheeks before flashing me a dimpled smile.

"Well, that's what you like about me, isn't it?" I skipped forwards and twirled around with my hands liked behind me.

"Then...are we...datin-" His voice was barely audible, trembling even.

"Not so fast, Kyo~tani~" I sang out, grinning. The boy couldn't even contain his own frown as I took out a piece of paper and handed him a pen.

"What's this...?" He stared back with a puzzled frown.

"Name and number. I'll call you to confirm the date." I winked before his eyes flashed with joy. He began picking up the pen and scribbling down his number as I stepped closer to him, enjoying his flustered reaction.

"I really like your face, Kyotani." I cooed in his ear before he froze and coughed, continuing to write his name.

After he finished, I slid it away from his fingers before he could open the rest of the folded part.

"Wait for my call!" I waved before prancing away.

Tadashi Kyotani

Will act on all requests by his female crush who attends high school with him and has the last name of Yagami. All orders from this person shall be granted and not questioned until death. The orders shall not be shared until death. Cause of death: Original lifespan.

Author's note:

By the way, if you are all wondering, the voices in her head represent the ID of her mind.

Hopefully, most of you have heard the phrase "ID, EGO, and superEGO" where ID is the desire and EGO is your logical mind. SuperEGO is the morals of a person.

...in which if you noticed my OC's morals are quite little and close to none. Her ID is her own nightmare and what she is able to become. She is the EGO, which lost her ID in her previous life, resulting in her ID actually becoming a clear existence in her mind.

They represent whisperings, demons that beckon and call for her with temptation. Normally a person's ID will not take form, but because she actually committed murder, her ID becomes more existant to the point where it can interact and take form in her mind.

When a person's ID becomes apparent, that is the indication of them turning psychotic.

Anyhow, hope you enjoyed this chapter!
