Where They Met
There was an awkward silence in the air as we drank our tea. I put three spoons of sugar in my tea as well as a little milk. Don't judge me, I like my tea very sweet! Raoul broke the silence by saying "Miss Silver I would love to know how you came to be living at the opera house because I know why Christine is but I don't know how you came to be here. It's making me curious." I never took my eyes off my almost finished tea as I said "when I was five years old my father worked in the military, he was shot and killed by our enemy. A year later my mother and I moved on but it was very difficult for my mother to support us and find a job so she sang on the streets...we were friends with the Giry's since my mother practically grew up with Madame Giry's Husband, God rest his soul. he helped us buy a tattered house in the city...not long after my mother became ill with tuberculosis and died. Monsieur Giry took me to the opera house because he couldn't stand seeing me in an orphanage...I am so thankful that he did because I would have never met my two dearest friends in the world." And I would have never met Erik. He gave me a look of sympathy and grabbed one of my hands from across the table. "I'm so sorry, Miss Silver. I should have never asked you." I interrupted him and said, "it's not your fault monsieur. It happened a long time ago, and I know that they are in a better place now." There were a few mins of silence. I changed the subject by saying, "so! Tell me how you first met Christine. She has told me so much about you except how you both met!" I smiled at him and he gave a look that said that he understood what I was doing. "Well it all started when my family and I went to a beach for the summer.." he told me how he met Christine and how her scarf blew into the ocean and he went into the water to retrieve it for her. It's so romantic, how they first met. Hours went by and Raoul stood up and said: "I had a wonderful time talking to you Miss Silver, but I must go." I smiled and nodded " Yes of course m.de Changey. But you may call me Emma." He smiled back at me and took my hand and kissed the back of my hand. "And you may call me Raoul. We really must do this again some other time. Adieu, Emma!" And he left the kitchen. Wow, he is a nice man. He is really head over heels for Christine though. She is very lucky to have a man who would stop at nothing to find her. I thought to myself as I cleaned the kitchen. After I was done I left and ran straight to my room. I closed my door and walked over to my tall floor length mirror, slid it open, and closed it behind me. I ran down the endless stairs leading down to Erik's lair.
