The Discovery

It was cold and dark In the catacombs underneath the opera house. The torches on the walls were not alight. But when they were they would give these cold damp halls life and make it seem as though it was magical. I finally got to the bottom of the stairs to see the lake but no boat. "Damn!" I whispered to myself. There is no point. I'm going to have to get to Erik's lair one way or another! I cautiously put one foot into the murky water. I gasped, the water sent chills down my spine. It felt as though my foot was being stabbed all over. I pressed forward and fought my urge to run out of the water. I soon reached the large gate that guarded Eriks musical paradise.  I waddled to the right side of the gate and stuck my hand through the bars. My arms are short so it was somewhat difficult to reach the lever.

After a couple minutes I got to the lever and flipped the switch. The large gate slowly rose up and I walked out of the cold water straight away to Eriks spare bedroom. I stayed the night here sometimes so he has a couple of dresses that he lets me use...originally they were meant for christine, he had been planning for her to come down here for a while but always backed out before he could and now, he was successful. Though it puzzled me seeing that Christine nor Erik were there in his humble abode. I went to the large wardrobe and picked out a warm looking dress that had long sleeves and a scoop neck and was the color of the forest on a summer's day. I quickly stripped out of my damp dress and slipped on the other dress. It was a perfect fit, almost. Christine and I are a little bit different in size. I'm about a size bigger than her. Once I was done changing I hung up my original dress to dry. "Erik? Hello?" I yelled ... no answer. I looked in every room except an area that was covered by a velvet curtain with golden tassels. I put my hand on the curtain but drew back hesitantly.  I shouldn't be invading his privacy like this. Oh! But I can't help it! I thought to myself. Eriks own voice seemed to enter my mind from the last time I tried to look. "That area is strictly forbidden" he would say in his strict tone. I rolled my eyes and scoffed. Like he would do anything to me.

I pulled back the curtain to see Christine!  I let out a small scream. I looked closer to see that It was just a wax model of her. The hair looked so real...everything looked so real. As if it could just spring to life at any moment and fling its arms out at me. The only thing that creeped me out the most was the eyes, they were empty and looking off in the distance. I noticed she was wearing a wedding gown and a veil..oh Erik...I frowned at the thought of Erik and Christine getting married. Surrounding the doll were hundreds of hand painted, and sketched pictures of Christine.. but only one really stood out to me..I found a picture of both Christine and I sitting together in the chapel when we were both seven years old..and there was a small sentence underneath..."my angels of music and dance." He painted this the day he first met us. Amazing. I closed the curtain making sure it looked the same way i found it. "There. Its all fine. Nothing to worry over its uh..just a hobby" I mutter and walk to the organ bench to look at all the songs Erik had written..there had to be about 50 songs and symphonies all scattered around the huge organ. I decided to sing what was perched on the stand. It is called The Music of the Night. As soon as I started the song I was pouring all of my emotions into it. The song itself made me want to fly and dance among the clouds and the heavens. I closed my eyes at the end of the song and just sat there enjoying the peace and quiet.. I then heard clapping behind me. And it caused me to jump and fall down back to earth in my body.  I turned around to see Erik standing three feet behind me. "That was very beautiful Emma. Where did you learn to sing like that?" I smiled and ducked my head alittle so he did not see my blushing red face. "Well I have been practicing for awhile now on my own and I asked the chorus girls to help me read music probably...five years ago." He  leisurely walked towards me and took a seat next to me on the bench. "i'm just shocked. The only time I have heard you sing was years ago!" He gave me a half smile. "I wonder..Emma..if you could sing for me again? If you don't want to, it's fine!" I laughed and said "of course i'll sing for you! After all you are my angel of music." And for hours and hours on end I sang all of the songs Erik desired me to sing for him. I suspected that I fell asleep on Eriks' shoulder because I blacked out and heard my sweet angel of music singing songs in my head..
