The move.

The last thing Virgil wanted to do was move. He liked New York. It was loud and busy witch kept his mind off of things. But his dad insisted that they move to the country. Get some fresh air or something. After Virgil's mom died his dad shut out everyone including his own son. The teen knew his dad didn't mean too but he still felt alone, utterly alone. He might as well have lost both of his parents. The only person that his dad somewhat was still open to was his best friend Ethen whom Virgil hated. He was a jerk and lied about everything! and the teen was was sure he didn't even care about him or his dad. He didn't know why his dad even hung out with the guy. the only "good" thing about him was he was brutally honest witch sometimes wasn't a good thing at all. He tended to lash out harshly at both the boy and his father.

Patton, Virgil's dad insisted that Ethan came with them, he argued that sir snake practically already lived with the family. And he said it would be good to have someone else in the house besides just him and Virgil. Witch did not make Virgil happy, granted he wasn't happy anyway. His mom meant everything to him and when she passed away, he had no idea what to do with his life. he fell into anxiety and stress. And his dad didn't know what to do. The young boy had nowhere to turn. nobody who cared.

"Dad, why do we have to move?!" Virgil asked his dad for the 100th time as the movers packed the last of their belongings into the moving truck.

"Virgil if you ask that one more time" his dad said very clearly annoyed with his sons questions.

"But why do we have to go? I like it here I like my school, Remy's here!...mom-" but he was cut off before he could finish.

"Virgil Luis Deets" his dad said sternly at him getting much to close to his face for Virgil's liking. His light blue polo looking black as his dad stood over him. Virgil sunk in on himself trying to get his black hoodie to engulf him. Hide him away from this side of his father. It didn't come out much Patton was usually loving and kind to his son. But the past few moths had been hard on both of them. Patton sighed his polo seeming a little brighter as he placed his hands on his son's shoulders.

"I'm sorry kiddo, I just, can't be here anymore" he said as he looked at the house sadly. He hadn't mentioned Virgil's mom almost at all in the 6 months since she had passed. He simply worked and planed the move. The man was torn and broken on a road with no end.

Virgil nodded sadly not wanting to argue with his dad. And understanding what he meant. Ethan  walked over to them. Wearing his stupid black fedora and a yellow T-shirt. Virgil glared at him as he patted Patton on the back.

"You ok Patton?" He asked him. Patton instantly put on a smile and turned to his friend.

"I'm fine" he said even though he was clearly not. Ethan nodded with a smile.

"This is exciting huh?!" he said walking behind Virgil and shaking him by the shoulders a bit the teen instantly pulled away from him slouching as he put his hands in his pockets.

"Come on kiddo" Patton said trying to coach his son into their car. As Ethan took the truck.

"we've got quite a day of driving"

Virgil did as told. And got in the car. he couldn't help but stare out his window as they pulled away from his childhood home.

"Bye Remy....bye mom" he said to himself as he leaned on his hand. Holding back the tears that built in his eyes. He wiped them away and sunk into his seat feeling defeated.

The hours passed and Virgil kept falling deeper into anxiety and nerves. Patton tried to cheer him up multiple times to no avail even when they got into Connecticut Patton tried to get his son excited. But Virgil ignored him. After a little more driving through the wooded state they got into Winter River. It was a small town, not many people. nothing to do to keep Virgil's mind occupied. They drove over a small bridge iron rails on either side of the newly paved road. A cross was posted in the ground as they came off the pavement into a dirt road. It was a simple wooden cross with a small sign on it that said "the Matlaind brothers" Virgil felt bad for the pair for a second but moved back into his own grief quickly.

They drove up a small hill bumping behind Ethen in the moving truck. They parked the car at what was presumably their new house. Virgil climbed out of the car and looked up at the old house it was a two story house white and grand. the teen actually didn't mind it. He took out his phone and snapped some pictures of the creepy building.

"Well this is gonna need some work" Ethen said as he stood next to VIrgil. Virgil scoffed and walked towards the house. It was even creepier inside then out. And Virgil liked it. There were a few spider webs and dust covered everything. It looked as though it was just abandoned, all the previous owners things left behind.

Patton walked into the house and took a deep breath of the dusty air.

"I like it! Has lots of charm" Patton exclaimed looking around. Ethen glared at him a bit.

"Mmm, i suppose" he said wiping his finger on the stair banister then wiping the dust on his jeans.

'Hey dad" Virgil asked getting his fathers attention. Patton looked to his son with nod.

"Look" the ball of angst said pointing to a spider on the stair banister. Patton screamed and ran back outside. Virgil chuckled befogging following and getting his stuff from the car. after grabbing his backpack. He then went to the trunk and grabbed his sleeping bag they wouldn't be able to get to there beds tonight it was already getting dark. And Patton had accounted for this and packed sleeping bags and mats in the car trunk.

Virgil was heading back inside when something caught his eye. He looked more closely at the upstairs window. And his first glance wasn't faulted. In the window of the attic stood two male figures. Virgil quickly pulled his phone from his pocket. But when he looked back at the window they were gone.

Virgil looked at the window confused yet played it off that he was just seeing things in the low light as the sun faded behind the hills.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"L-logan,he saw us! That boy saw us"

"What? No he didn't"

"Yes he did, he looked right at me."

Logan rolled his eyes at his brother. "Ok Roman"

"I'm telling you Lo!" Roman said stomping over to his older brother.

But Logan ignored him and continued flipping through their handbook. Roman sighed and looked over his model of the town he had been building. "Hey Roman" he turned his head towards his brother at the sound of his name. And wiped his hands off on his white, red and yellow plaid shirt as he walked over to his brother.

"Huh?" He asked when he came to stand next to Logan.

"What's this?" He asked handing his brother a piece of paper that had fallen out of the handbook. Roman took it in his hand reading the font on the card.

"Trouble with the living is death the problem and not the solution?! Unhappy with eternity? Then call Betetle...geese?.. the bio exorcist!" He gave his brother a confused look.

"Beetle-geese?" Logan asked taking the card back from his brother. Roman shrugged not knowing the answer.

"It says Betelgeuse Roman, like the star."- but Logan was cut off from his explanation to his brother at the sound of footsteps coming up the stairs.

Logan looked at the door and shook his head. "It's fine I locked it" he said as he fixed his glasses and continued looking over the card.

"There isn't even a number to call" Logan said with a confused tone. Someone began to turn the handle of the attic door trying to get in. Roman walked over to the door, and not a moment to soon the lock clicked and the door began to open. Roman slammed it closed against the frame. Logan quickly put the book down and ran over to help.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Virgil stood in shook at the door slamming in his face. He heard whispers on the other side. the boy stood quiet for a while. after a few minutes he again tried the door this time putting the key in as slowly as he could as to not make any noise. He clicked the key into place.  Then slowly turned the handle. He grinned as he pushed the door open to walk into the dusty attic.                     --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Logan spun on his heal when he heard the door creek but it was to late. The door stood agar with whoever had opened it right outside. They could make out the body of a young man standing in the shadow of the doorframe. Logan gave a glacé to his brother. And Roman mouthed "What do we do?" Logan didn't know he frantically tried to think of something but a black with purple laces sneaker stepped into the attic.

The brothers froze.

Virgil walked into the old room and looked around. Growing stiff and pale when he saw the two men standing before him. the darkness hadn't tricked him. He was about to yell for his dad before he got intrigued buy the mens faces.

"W-who are you?!" VIrgil said shaking.

"See Lo I told you he could see us!" The shorter of the two said.

The other man slightly taller than the one who had just spoken adjusted his glasses and looked at Virgil very intently. as he looked very confused.

"Who are you?" VIrgil asked again hoping for a replay this time.

"I'm Roman and this is my brother Logan" the shorter of the two said. Logan seemed to be preoccupied thinking.

"And,why are you in our attic?" VIrgil asked desperate for answers.

"I should call the cops" he said taking a small step towards the door.

"That wouldn't do you any good" Logan finally chimed in loosening his green tie.

"And why is that?" Asked the boy.

"How can you see us?" Logan asked himself ignoring Virgil's question he walked over and picked up his handbook flipping through the pages for answers.

"We're um..." Roman started seeing the confusion and fear on Virgil's face.

"We're dead" Roman finished. "We accidentally drove off the Winter River bridge." He explained.

"Roman ran off the bridge to avoid hitting a dog" the older brother said with his face still in his book. Roman stuck his tongue out at his brother and crossed his arms.

"You grabbed the steering wheel" he said angrily. But Logan gave him no notice.

Virgil's thought back to the bridge they had crossed. "The Matlain brothers" he whispered to himself connecting the dots.

While they were preoccupied arguing about who made them crash Virgil wandered around the room a bit. Looking at the town model and dust covered junk piled up in the corner. Eventually his eyes landed on the book Logan was still reading. He looked at the cover of the old book "Handbook for the recently deceased" his eyes grew wide realizing the two brothers where indeed dead.

He moved over to a small table his eyes landing on a piece of paper it was wrinkled and stained.

But before he had a chance to read it his dad's voice rang up to the attic. "VIRGIL?!" He jumped a bit and grabbed the paper shoving it in his jacket pocket. The Matlain brothers turned towards the door, then gave a glacé to Virgil.

"I gotta go" he said walking towards the door.

"I won't call the cops just yet,I'm intrigued by you guys." he said. "I'll come back tomorrow when I can. i have some questions. iv'e never met dead guys before." the boy explained with a bit of attitude in his tired voice. he walked out of the door closing it behind him and walked down the stairs towards his dad's voice.

Virgil finished getting his dufflebag from the car as his dad had asked. And went to his room setting his mat and sleeping bag up with his backpack and duffle on the floor next to it. He climbed into his sleeping bag not even bothering to change into his pajamas. He had been way more tired then he thought he was.

He rolled over on his side before reaching into his pocket and pulling out the paper he had found in the attic. He felt a bit guilty taking it without asking. But it looked cool and old. And it was just a piece of paper what real value could it have?

He grabbed his phone and turned on the flashlight to see the paper clearly in his dark room.

The paper read "Trouble with the living is death the problem and not the solution?! Unhappy with eternity? Then call Betelgeuse the bio exorcist!" VIrgil laughed at this note. "What the heck?" He thought.

Virgil was confused as to what this add type note was. He opened his phone and went into safari. Typing in Betelgeuse.

"Beetlegeuse Star,I don't want that" Virgil said to himself as he scrolled down.

"When will Betelgeuse supernova? No"

"Don't say Beetlegeuse" he paused "what's that supposed to mean?" He asked himself.

"To bad that wasn't the first tab" a rough voice sounded out through the room. Virgil wasn't alone anymore.
