Chapter 7
We drive in comfortable silence for a while, or as comfortable as it can be when you are in a confined space with a guy as hot as Logan.
"I thought you were going to try to talk to me earlier during my shift?" I can't hide the disappointment in my voice.
"Believe me I wanted to." He takes his eyes from the road and looks briefly at me.
"Why didn't you?" I look through my window, and when he doesn't answer, I immediately regret asking.
"I guess I was shocked to see you there, you know?" He doesn't take his eyes off the road this time. "And I thought you were dating Mark."
"Why does it matter? I told you I just wanted to be friends."
"You are right. It doesn't matter." He sighs and asks for further directions before we both go silent for the rest of the ride.
When we get to my house, I turn to him. "Thanks for driving me home," I murmur, but instead of replying, he gets outs of the car and opens the door for me.
I get out, not really meeting his eyes. "Uh... Ok. I'll-" I can feel him looking at me, but I just can't face him.
"Let me walk you to the door." He doesn't let me finish.
As we get to my door, I'm startled when my dad opens it. "Well, I didn't know you were on a date." He looks tired but I can see his eyes are smiling.
"It's not-" I try to explain but I see he's having none of it when he doesn't let me finish.
"Charles Smith. Olivia's father." He ignores me, offering his hand to Logan.
"Nice to meet you, sir. Logan Lane. Olivia's boss and prospective friend." He looks at me and smiles, his eyes shining with mischief.
"Thanks for-" I turn my attention to Logan, but my father interrupts me, smirking at Logan's comment.
"Aren't you Angelo Lane's grandson? I think your grandfather introduced us a long time ago when you were visiting. He was a great man, I'm so sorry for your loss," Dad says, and I'm shocked to realize I have never met Logan before.
He is the grandson of two very well-known citizens of this city and I've lived here all my life. How have we never met before?
I think Logan is thinking the same thing by the way he looks at me, but he chooses not to comment. Instead, he turns his attention to my father. "Thanks, sir."
My dad smiles at his words. "Just Charles, please." Looking at me, he adds, "Well, Logan, I was just going to have some tea and finish watching the game. Since you and Olivia are not dating or anything, would you like to join me?"
Oh my God! I can't believe he is doing this. He just waits and sees, next time I see Mary, I'm forcing her to invite him to stay at her place overnight.
"I think he has better things to do, dad." I look pointedly at Logan.
"Actually, I did have plans for tonight, but they were canceled last minute." He gives me a big smile.
"Well, so let's get inside." My father opens the door widely.

I have to confess, I'm completely out of place in my own living room. They are engrossed in a conversation about all kinds of sports you can imagine and seem to forget I am here. I'm really considering going to my bedroom but I'm so glad dad is having a good time, and I can't make myself move.
Logan is so charming and funny and really seems to get along with him. They talk and laugh about things my dad seemed no longer interested in, like sports and music, and my heart warms every time I see his eyes light up when Logan says something smart.
When I can't contain my yawn anymore, Logan looks at me and stands up. "Thanks for inviting me in, Charles, but I think I should get going."
Dad stands up too and shakes his hand. "It was my pleasure. Feel free to stop by any time. Actually..." He stops and looks briefly at me before turning his attention to Logan.
"My friend Mary and I are having a barbecue this Saturday and I'd love for you to join us if you are not too busy." He clears his throat and looks at me. "She thinks I need to socialize more."
My mouth hangs open and I absolutely hate how jealous I feel. I've been trying to get him to hang out with his friends since I came back home, so I should feel glad Mary was able to convince him, but in a way, I feel helpless.
I'm sure he can read the emotion on my face because he comes to my side and kisses the top of my head. "We just decided it this afternoon, baby girl. I thought you would be happy?" He sounds worried, and I chastize myself for my reaction.
"I'm more than happy." I kiss his cheek.
He smiles and turns his attention to Logan. "So, what do you say?"
"Thanks, Charles. I'd love to."
Dad shakes Logan's hand again. "Well, it was very nice meeting you, Logan. I'll see you next Saturday."
"Livy, will you walk him out?" he adds before heading to his bedroom
"Sure," I murmur.
As we head to the door, the air shifts and all I can feel is Logan's presence behind me. I open the door and when I turn to him, I'm surprised to see how close we are. He towers over me and I have to turn my face up so I can look into his eyes.
"Uh... Good Night," I say, breathless. Butterflies are having a feast in my stomach and my eyes seem to have a hard time focusing on him and not his mouth.
Logan doesn't respond, just stares into my eyes. I can see his pupils dilate and his breathing increase and it's the most erotic thing I've ever seen. Suddenly my mouth goes dry, and as I lick my lips, his eyes fall immediately to my mouth and my breath catches. All I'm able to think about is his mouth on mine.
"Logan..." I try to reason as I whisper his name.
"Please?" he whispers back, and I give him a subtle nod.
He leans closer and kisses me softly, and an involuntary moan escapes my throat as he grabs my waist. My hands go to his hair and I can't think about anything else but the taste of his lips. They are firm but soft and he tastes so good, I could stay here forever.
He seems as turned on as I am when he bites my lower lip, and I gasp at the rush of pleasure that burns deep inside me. He takes the opportunity to thrust his tongue in my mouth, and I shamelessly press myself against him. I can feel his hardness on my lower belly and it just makes me want to get closer to him, to lose control.
Forgetting where I am, I press my body against his, but he tightens his grip on my waist suddenly stopping the kiss and pressing his face against my neck.
"Damn," he whispers, his husky voice making me shiver.
My head is pressed against his chest and all I can feel is the fast beat of his heart and his sandalwood scent. I'm trying to get myself together, but it's almost impossible with the way he holds me tightly.
"Olivia." He bites my neck and I moan softly, wishing I was somehow stronger when it came to him.
"I can't," I whisper. I don't need him to say that he wants more from me. I can feel it.
He stops his ministrations, and I let out a long deep breath when he puts some distance between us.
"It's one date. I know I'm not alone here, Olivia. You enjoyed this kiss as much as I did," he says as he places a lingering kiss on my neck, but I'm already shaking my head no.
"Why fight this attraction? I'm not asking you to marry me, it's only a date," he says a little exasperated, clearly not used to the word no.
Suddenly, all the lust I was feeling turns into apprehension. I don't know what I'm thinking when I say the words, but I can't stop myself.
"Too bad I need a husband then!" I push him away and get out of his grip.
He looks at me as if he can't understand what I just said, and I immediately regret my sudden outburst.
"What did you just say?" He frowns.
"Forget what I said, Logan! As you can see, my father is sick and all my focus is on him. Besides, I don't mix business and pleasure." I take a long breath trying to calm my heart. "And you are my boss! I can't lose this job." I don't look at him as I hold the door open for him to leave.
"Why do you need a husband?" he presses.
"Please leave, Mr. Lane." I feel my eyes water.
"Stop with the Mr. Lane bullshit, Olivia, and tell me... Why do you need a husband?
"It's none of your business! Leave!" He must have heard the finality in my words because after a moment he does what I ask for.
I stand there for a moment longer willing my heart to stop beating so fast, and the tears I feel in my eyes not to fall.
What the hell am I doing?
