~Tim's POV~
"Everyone out of the grotto if you know what's good for you!"
"Domino, what are you-"
"Out!" I heard Maeve sneer. "I don't care what all of you do, just stay away from here for the rest of the day."
Bart and Jaime immediately ran to the kitchen and hid behind me.
"What the-"
"Your sister's terrifying on a good day, down right evil when she's crying." Bart said and I raised an eyebrow. "Your family scares me, now more than ever."
"Wait... what day is it!?" I asked.
"27th."
"It's the anniversary..."
"Anniversary of..."
"Anniversary of Jason's death, hermano." Jaime said and rolled his eyes, but I was already making my way down to the grotto and called Dick.
"Yes?"
"Uhh... did you forget what day it is? Where are you!?"
"I'm currently cleaning his grave with Wall for when she comes here tonight. Where is she?"
"The grotto. I'm actually scared to go down."
"Tim, listen to me. She can't be alone today of all days. I'll be there as soon as I finish cleaning his grave. We finally got the cracks and broken pieces fixed and I can't leave until they place it."
"I don't know what to say to her. She hates me!" I pointed out and heard him sigh.
"She doesn't hate you, man. It's been a hard year for all of us with one thing after another. She took a few months off, but she still doesn't know how to grieve... she never experienced it before and it's hit her hard. Then Bruce gave you the suit and the little progress she made went to hell."
"So she doesn't hate my guts?"
"No, baby wing. It's just been a hard pill to swallow... You donning the mask meant that-"
"He actually died and it wasn't a nightmare."
"Bingo!" He exclaimed just as Maeve let out a scream. "And that's your cue. I'll be there in forty five minutes. The new monument just arrived."
"Please hurry." I sighed and hung up once I reached the bottom of the stairs of the grotto.
"I failed... I failed... I failed..." Maeve kept repeating and my heart broke, watching as she cried in front of Jason's memorial on her knees. "I failed you... I failed Dad by what I did... and I'm failing Tim because I can't be the Domino he wants me to be."
"I don't want you to be Domino... I want you to be my sister." I called out and she froze before slowly turning to look at me with bloodshot swollen eyes and red cheeks. "It's today, isn't it?"
"Get out and lock the door."
"Can't do that." I smirked, removing my sunglasses and sat next to her. "You can talk to me, or not, but I'm not moving until I know you're better."
"I failed him... after all I did... breaking Bruce's rule by killing all those people, giving him my scraps of food, running on nothing but rage and adrenaline for a week to try and get him out... all for a fucking bomb that I didn't see until the last minute."
"Everything you did in there was because you had no choice."
"So everyone says." Maeve sighed, wiping her tears and fully sat down. "Joker never wanted to kill me. He wanted to break me by killing the people I love most... he didn't succeed with Dick, so he went after the little Robin who never strayed too far from me."
"How exactly did he-"
"In my arms, terrified and resigned. Last words were: 'I'm sorry I couldn't save you'."
"So while you were trying to save him-"
"He was trying to save me." She finished and laid down. "You're a lot like him in some ways, y'know?"
And there it is. As always.
"Maeve, I don't-"
"You're headstrong with a heart of gold like he was. Always wanting to see the good in people." Maeve interrupted with a small smile. "And you're a decent baby brother at times. But you're also like me in that you look like you're one day away from committing war crimes."
"So you don't hate me because I replaced him?" I asked in shock.
"You're not a replacement and I don't hate you. I'm just mad at Bruce deep down."
"Why?"
"Because the Robin mantle wasn't his to give away."
"He did it with Jason." I pointed out and she scoffed.
"That was all Dick. He passed the mantle to Jason, not Bruce. I was there when he tried on the first suit and when he made all the upgrades... I was there for his whole journey and... Bruce took that away from me with you."
"Mae, you didn't even want to be in the same room as me when I took the cape."
"Because I would've liked to train you when I was in a better place mentally... I wanted to see you grow and evolve into Robin just like I saw Dick and Jay grow into it." She admitted and I widened my eyes.
"You wanted another Robin?"
"No. But it would've been nice to say 'I trained all three Robins', y'know?"
"You didn't train Dick, Maeve." I chuckled and she smiled.
"Yeah? That speed he has on the field isn't because he's an acrobat. Bruce specializes in strength and stamina, I was trained with speed and fluidity."
"Teach me?" I asked and she nodded, sitting up.
"Change into something comfortable. I'm gonna teach you how to disarm someone with an AK-47 in 10 seconds with your bare hands while they shoot at you." Maeve laughed and pulled me into a hug. "You're a good boy, Tim. Don't ever change."
Maybe we'll be okay.
I'll take care of our sister, Jason. You can rest easy.

"Okay, so you want the hit to be lower so you can actually disarm, Tim."
"And you just happen to have an AK-47 lying around?"
"One of Wally's souvenirs from that weird mission we did in south China while Jay was still alive... that was a weird one." Maeve shuddered and pointed the gun at me. "I won't actually shoot you and the barrel's empty, but pretend there's bullets flying everywhere from ten different people and I'm a mob boss. What do you do?"
"Slide under and bo staff to the neck." I shrugged.
"You killed me. The impact and the shock from the staff killed me and Bruce fires you if you don't die from the other shots first. Try again."
"Then I'm lost."
"Use the staff to redirect a bullet to my leg and then take me down. You take down the boss, the others will seem like a cakewalk to you."

"Don't kill the boy!" Dick yelled, running towards us and tried to knock the rifle from Maeve's hands but she swiftly did a backflip and kicked Dick to the ground. "Okay, I deserved it... but don't-"
"I'm not killing him, Dick!" She rolled her eyes and set the rifle down. "I'm teaching him the disarm trick Jade taught me years ago!"
"You know we have fake guns for training, right? There's no need to-"
"A real one is much heavier and harder to disarm. I prefer he learns with a real one and then polish his skills with the fake ones." Maeve shrugged and helped him stand. "Is Jay's monument-"
"It's ready. You wanna go there now?"
"Maybe later... take a break, Tim. I'll go make something to eat." She smiled and handed the rifle to Dick before walking to the kitchen.
"Dude, what the hell did you do?" He asked and I raised my hands.
"We talked, I swear!"
"She's been upset all week and barely sleeping."
"Nightmares?"
"Flashbacks... she's been reliving the entire week they spent in Arkham."
"How... how was it, Dick? Because she said he died in her arms and-"
"They were branded in a way. There's days where she can't stand straight because they were tied with barbed wire for a bit. And, if you look at her back, you'd see a big J burned there... When they did Jay's autopsy they found one under his mask. We think that when Mae was unconscious, Joker branded him as well."
"Joker's a sadistic bastard." I shuddered and Dick shrugged. "Can't believe she's his daughter."
"You clearly haven't known me long enough. I'm one day away from starting a civil war in Gotham." Maeve called out and handed us some sandwiches. "And you can ask, y'know? About Jay or Arkham. I won't bite."
"How was he... as Robin?" I asked uneasily and she sighed, sitting on the training mat with a small smile.
"I'll sum it up in two simple words... beautifully chaotic."
