Chapter 9
Thomas Marsin
I don't know why I'm so mad at everyone but I am. I guess I just have a hard time trusting people. I feel really bad about getting mad at Alice, but now I feel like I don't even know her. My parents pulled Alice aside while I walked around looking. How come I didn't know about any of this? Wow a kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, and a place to do laundry. Seriously this is epic. When I went to return to talk to Alice, she looked like she just got a bullet to the heart, like she was about to double over in pain. Then I realized she has been shot and still has the bullet inside her.
"Umm mom dad." I started.
"Not now Thomas." My mom said.
"Mom! Dad!"
"What?!" They said at the same time
"Alice was shot don't you think you should help her first?"
"No that can wait." My dad was very frustrated. Usually if someone is hurt he tends to the wound first. I wait 15 more minutes and they are still half scolding her. I have no idea why though. The color in Alice's face has faded, and she looks like she is about to pass out. This is starting to make me mad. Finally after 15 more minutes they help tend to Alice, who has gone completely pale with the occasional pink in her cheeks from embarrassment. My parents are being really harsh to Alice for no reason. While they were finishing up talking to Alice, Emma had finished her shower and so had Christopher. We all decided to watch a movie, but I couldn't stand filthy for much longer so I took a quick shower. I let the water get in my eyes to wipe my eyes free of dirt and tears. I thought about everything we had been through and how I treated Alice. I should have just trusted her. I feel like such a jerk. Maybe she will understand, or maybe she will think I am a complete and total jerk. I got out of the shower and found some new clothes that were fresh and didn't have blood on them. I got out and saw Alice she looked exhausted. She smiled at me, so she must not think I'm a total jerk.
"All right time to explain. Thomas why don't you come join us. I sat next to Alice in the living room.
"Hey are you okay?" I just hope she isn't mad at me.
"I guess." She needs to rest.
"Why don't you rest your head on my shoulder." This time she didn't object. So she got comfy. I caught a whiff of her hair. It smelled like the forest. Sadly my parents haven't let her go and take a shower yet.
"Hey I'm sorry for yelling at you. I guess I just am not good at trusting people."
"It's fine. I understand, but I'm the one who should be sorry I should have told you." I smiled at her, and of course I got that ' I'm in pain' half smile.
"All right. I'm sorry it came to this, but someone has to explain." My dad had started. All right time for the break down of really shocking news.
"Okay so you all know of the terrorist group led by Cia, so lets start there. Cia is a women who plans on destroying the whole world. She wants only people who have devoted themselves to her service in the making of something called the 'Savior Trials'. These trials are for teens at the ages of 14-18. They must complete a series of trials to be recruited into Cia's group. They let in 15 to be recruited to help lead the world after they take over it. If they do not make it through the Trials they are killed so no-one is able to tell them about the trials, but the catch is you have to be accepted through knowledge. Any questions so far?" We all sat there in shock, except for Alice who had her head buried into my shoulder.
"Umm yea, so how do you know all this?" Em turned brave.
"Alice is our secret spy. On her free time she goes to one of the Cia bases, and without being seen she collects intel. That is one of the most important things you must know about Alice. You also need to know that you four are here to stop Cia. You may not see it now, but it's true."
We turned to look at each other, but that's when I saw a single tear fall from Alice's face. Just the one. I was the only one who saw it. Poor Alice she all of our lives plus the world's on the weight of her shoulders.
"What about our parents?"
"Your parents have evacuated to a place where they are safe. A place where no one from Cia can get in. It is where Alice, your leader will take you to train before going up against them. We can not travel with you because we will draw to much attention. Also this is apart of your training." I looked over at Alice who looked like she was about to pass out.
"You all have 3 days here before you must embark on your journey. Now lets let that set, and I will tell you what you need to know tomorrow, but in the mean time lets eat dinner then go to bed." We had such an eventful day I never realized that it was already 8 o' clock.
"Hey why don't you go clean yourself up. Okay?" I told Alice while the three of us sat and watched a movie. I was so tired it was hard to stay awake so I took a quick nap.

When I woke up everyone ,including Alice, was getting dinner. Alice still had that same 'I'm about to pass out' expression on her face, but she brightened up when she saw me awake. She was nice enough to make me a plate and bring it to me.
"Hey so how is everything settling in? I know it's a lot to take in, and if it helps I can clarify some more." Wow what do I say.
"Oh yea I'm fine. Lets just settle in and watch the movie. We were watching an old movie from the year 2013. I know it was only 15 years ago but it seems old. It was called Epic. It's one of Alice's favorite movies I found out while eating. After we finished dinner the four of us talked about normal teenage stuff for once. At that moment it seemed as if we were really normal. Maybe soon, but not yet, we will go back to our normal lives. Alice can do her spy work, Emma can play softball, Christopher can work on his basketball skills, and I will return to snowboarding and giving lessons. I can only hope though. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.
