Chapter 7

Emma Farmount

This probably had to be the scariest day of my life. First the crash, now we find out the leader of a terrorist group is after us! I'm so scared, but I try not to let Christopher see. He is so kind and holds my hand for a long time. Mainly until Alice needs help, or Thomas needs help. Rather than that I just sit around checking everyone to make sure their wounds aren't infected. So far so good. I just feel useless right now. Wait. Alice looks like she's struggling. Maybe I can help.
"Hey Alice need any help?" Please say Yes.
"Yea actually I need quite a bit of help. First can you check on the guys, and make sure they are comfortable. Then I need you to help me with our breakfast thing." Yes something to do. It may not be much, but I can't sit around doing nothing. So I check on everyone. Go get some fresh snow, and bring it back to Alice.
"Thank you so much Emma. It's kind of hard for me to juggle everything. Oh here you can bring the bowl over here." She led me to the fire. I was really confused on what she was going to do.
" So umm what are you going to do with that?"
"Oh so I need to bring it to a boil so it burns away any bacteria, or something like that." How the heck does she know all of this just randomly. Something isn't right about Alice, and I'm going to find out what it is. Maybe she's a spy from another country. Or maybe she works for Cia. Hmm she is one tough cookie. Then I hear Christopher. He sounds uncomfortable so I go over to him.
"Hey what's wrong?" Hopefully it's nothing serious.
"My leg hurts worse than before." Hmm if anything it could be an infection so I take off the bandage to look at it. It's swollen, but not infected. So I have Thomas come over to help me a little bit. Alice was still pretty busy with work and making sure that we had good food and water.
"It looks like it needs air. It should be fine maybe if you get some clean water on it, it will help." Thomas is so well educated in this. I wonder how. Oh well we need to get Alice over here.
"Alice we need your help for a second." I hope I wasn't too pushy
"Okay one second. OOF!" Then we heard a puff. Something was really smokey. Alice stopped what she was doing and came over. She was covered in black powder of some sort.
"Okay then. Christopher's leg is really swollen, and needs to be re-bandaged." Thomas. seemed a little off. I wonder if anything is bothering him?
"Alright umm let me see... Okay so it looks like, Christopher, your leg will need stitches, and if we don't take care of it now it could lead to an infection. So Emma can you go get me some snow once more, and Thomas can you get me my bag please?" Alice seemed so focused. She wasn't even fazed by anything that happened. I grabbed the plastic bag she gave me and headed out of the cave to get snow. It was pretty cold outside, so I tried to hurry. Everything seemed normal. The bus was sadly still there as a reminder of what we had been through. It was so crazy, the blood was all over. There was a stench of burning flesh and smoke. The bus was up in flames, it was so powerful I almost puked. There were still bodies and my classmates were burning in there. I tried to not cry so I grabbed the snow and quickly brought it to Alice. I sat by Christopher and held his hand. Alice was getting everything prepped and ready, but Thomas was sad and looked mad leaning against the wall watching the fire.
"I'll be right back okay?"
"Okay. I'll be right here." I gave Christopher a quick smile and walked over to Thomas.
"Hey you look kind of sad, and I wanted to make sure you were okay."
"Oh yea I'm fine just trying to figure somethings out." I felt so bad. I think he wanted to get to know Alice more this trip, and he barely got to talk to her.
"You should come over see if Alice needs a hand. You could talk to her to." With that I left him. A couple seconds later he followed. I took my original position next to Christopher, while Alice started stitching his leg with Thomas by her side. Hopefully Thomas gets in a better mood now that he actually might be able to talk to her. I shouldn't be focused on Thomas, but on Christopher. I can't believe Alice thinks that the state his leg is in now could lead to an infection. I don't think , for once, she is right. Who knows, but I keep a close eye on her to make sure she isn't planing anything. Why am I worrying so much? We've known each other since 6th grade. Then I'm awoken from thought by Alice.
"Christopher you might want to bite down on something soft that muffles sound. I'm not going to lie to you, this is going to hurt just relax and don't look." Christopher looks up at me and holds my hand. Thomas grabbed a cloth for him to bite on. My thoughts took over me, and I leaned in and kissed Christopher. Wow that was the first time I've ever kissed someone. Thomas and Alice looked shocked that I kissed him. I am shocked that I kissed him.
"You j..just k-kissed me!" Christopher was shocked to. Then thats when Alice stepped in.
"I'm sorry to ruin the moment, but we kind of have to get this done, and start getting ready to leave." Leave? I don't know how Christopher will be able to walk after this.
"You're right we need to get this done."
"Alright let's begin." Alice started. She cleaned the cut really well, while walking Thomas through every step. Then she put rubbing alcohol in the cut to, apparently, kill any bacteria. She then got thread on a string and started stitching the cut in a way I have never seen done before. After each strand she tied it, I think it was to make sure it was completely stitched. I held Christopher's hand through it all. After the stitches she wrapped it up. She gave Christopher pain killers to ease the swelling, and help with any pain.
"Wow I don't feel any pain! How did you do that?" Christopher seemed curious, and so was Thomas and I.
"Well umm I can't explain it until we get to Thomas' parents."
"WHY!? WHY MY PARENTS!? HOW CAN WE EVEN TRUST YOU?! YOU HAVEN'T TOLD US ANYTHING!?" Thomas does have a point, but he doesn't have to get so mad.
"Thomas calm down it's ok-"
"No don't say it's okay because it's not! Ever since she showed up everything wrong has happened! Remember a couple weeks ago when we had a lock in? Six people at our school died! Sure she saved our class, but WHY?! Why does it have to be this way huh?"
"Thomas... It's okay if you don't trust me. If I was in your shoes, frankly, I wouldn't trust me either. Just let me get you safely down the mountain. Please Thomas" I've never seen Alice get teary- eyed before, but at that moment she did. She was acting really strange though. She would casually pull down her sweater to make sure that we couldn't see her arms. It was strange and made me suspect so much. "Just trust me. I know how to get us to safety." I couldn't do anything without crying myself so I went over to Alice and cried into her shoulder. She hugged me back, but she was looking at Thomas with sorrow and hope.
"Fine, but once we get to my parents house we part ways and you go do whatever you have to do." Thomas finally agreed. I finally got my hopes up when I saw Christopher standing. Hopefully everything goes smoothly from here.
