iii

Like most things in her life Kasia Jasani quickly forgets about the call after a few moments of worrying about her safety, then the next day everything was back to normal.

She wanted a few days before trying to remove her mark again, she doesn't know why she continues because clearly nothing is going to change and the mark won't suddenly go away. She's tried everything to cutting the skin, she's tried burning it away. Nothing Kasia did would remove it so this time wouldn't be any different.

She sighed as stopped picking at her skin before laying flat on her back and looking up at her ceiling, she pushed her computer away which was open on a laser clinic. It was something that was expensive and Kasia didn't even know if it would work to be worth it, she wants to get rid of the mark but not at the risk of being broke.

Kasia turned and grabbed her phone that was laying on the charger on her nightstand, she turns until she's laying on her stomach before answering the text that her brother sent her asking her if she was doing alright which she of course lied and said she was fine. Her eyebrows rose when she saw an unknown number was calling, she clicked answer and put it up to her ear. "Hello?" Kasia said into the phone curiously, she heard muffled talking on the other side before she heard a rustle, and then someone finally said something. "Hi, this is America Express calling about your car's extended warranty." The man said quickly. Kasia's brows furrow as she slowly sits up keeping the phone to her ear.

"Sorry, I think you have the wrong person. I don't deal with America Express." Before the man could say anything else Kasia brought the phone down and quickly ended the call, she sighed and rubbed a hand across her face before getting off of her bed and walk towards the bathroom. She braced her hands on the sides of her sink before looking up and staring at herself in the mirror, no wonder her brother asked if she was okay she looked terrible.

Her eyes were red-rimmed and she had under eye bags the size of a grocery bag, shaking her head she opens the door and pulls out a scrunchie before grabbing all of her hair and pulling it up into a messy do before turning on the sink and cupping her hands to splash the cold water on her skin. She doesn't know what she was expecting because when she looked up nothing happened, she didn't look better or more awake. She just had goosebumps appearing on her skin, growling she towel-dried her face before tossing it at her reflection staring back at her in the mirror before turning around and walking out of the bathroom turning the light off on the way.

Kasia walked out into the hallway towards the kitchen to make her a snack to try and cheer her up, she opened the fridge and grabbed a yogurt, and grabbed a spoon to eat while she's watching tv. She tucked her legs under her and laid a blanket over her lap before grabbing the remote and finds a random movie to watch. She settles on a random movie about Sherlock Holmes, she didn't think she was paying attention to it that much but she must have been because she didn't hear the door open. "Hey! I'm home!" Zachary yelled making Kasia jump, she closed her eyes and put a hand on her heart gulping before turning around to face Zachary who was looking at her with slight concern as he took his jacket.

"Hey," Kasia says trying to not let her voice waver from the fright. "I didn't know you were on the way home." Zachary looks at Kasia in concern before letting his bag drop to the floor and walks towards the couch sitting next to her, she has to move her feet that had dropped and she propped on the couch so she could make room for him. "I texted you, I asked you what you wanted for dinner, and never answered me so I assumed you were fine." Kasia opened her mouth to respond before closing it and looking at Zachary confused.

She placed her yogurt on the table in front of the couch before patting her pockets to find her phone before quick realization runs across her face. "Sorry, I left my phone in my room." Kasia frowns rubbing her brow in frustration. Zachary looked at Kasia for a second before shaking his head and standing up. "Is pizza okay? Alon is working late tonight, they asked him if he could do a 24-hour shift and he said sure so it's just us." Kasia purses her lips together before nodding quickly, Kasia knew that Zachary was worried about her but that is nothing new because her father and brother are also worried about her, they have been ever since she stopped the attack but Kasia can't help it.

Things changed that night and definitely not for the better. Kasia bites her lip before standing up and walks quickly towards her room before Zachary can try to talk to her, she pulls back her made bed and crawls under the covers. Her hands start to shake before she closes her eyes and wills her hands to calm down, it seems to work but all of sudden she's exhausted, and without warning, she falls asleep.

Kasia's running, she can feel the rumbling of the ground and the screams of her father before she sees it. Her father being attacked by someone in the back alley behind his clinic. Kasia picks up her phone but she can't hear anything the operator says she angrily drops her phone and runs towards the attacker punching him without stopping.

Suddenly she's on top of him looking into his smiling face as she brings her fist back and cracks it against his face, she's breathing heavily as she notices the attacker isn't fighting back anymore. She turns and looks at Naveen who is looking at her in shock holding her phone presumably speaking to the operator, and that's when Kasia realized, she just killed somebody.

Kasia's eyes shoot open before her heart starts racing, she sits up and looks around the room before trying to calm herself. She looks towards the window to see that it's dark outside, she grabs the phone that was still on the nightstand and sees she's slept through dinner, again.
