14 ~ A Visit From Tinkerbell

"Good, let's get started." Pan waves his hand over some leaves and fire jumps up, licking at a log in the middle. I realize how cold I am and sit down against the tree, shivering a little.

"Cold?" He asks.

"I'm fine." I say. "Now. About this deal. How about... I give you what you want, you give me what I want."

"That's trippy." He laughs outright. "Who goes first? What if you want something totally unreasonable?"

"It's not unreasonable, I can assure you of that." I yawn, starting to feel very drowsy. That traveling stuff absolutely drains any energy you have.

"Look, I'm tired too. We can call it a night - discuss everything in the morning."

"Fine." I don't feel like arguing. I bang my head against the tree and close my eyes, immediately feeling the need to rest overwhelming me.

*********

Peter Pan stares at her. There's something different this time - a sort of... power - a fire in her eyes. I'm rubbing off on her. he thinks with a small smile. Thinking of Tinkerbell, he goes around the other side of the fire and joins her against the tree. It's a big tree. She flops against the tree again, already asleep.

Pan stares into the flames, thinking. He needs that sword, but what after that? Does he kill her? He glances over at her in silence. Her head turns and rests on his shoulder. This time he doesn't pull away. It's actually, rather, the most comfort he's felt in ages. Around his lost boys, they prefer being boisterous and hitting each other...

Stop it, Pan. He thinks. Focus on the mission. Self consciously, he lifts his hand up to brush a red strand of hair out of her eyes. She stiffens at the touch, and falls against his side, tensed.

Obviously a bad dream. She shivers slightly, murmuring something softly. The way she is relying on him to keep her safe feels good. The lost boys never need protecting. He lowers her gently to his lap, and watches the fire flickering off her fire hair. It is red. She's stopped shivering. He traces the outline of her hair, of the shadows flickering across her face.

There's a sharp zing! and out of nowhere an arrow comes hurtling at them. Milliseconds before it hits Ruby, Pan catches it, throwing it to the ground.

"Tink." He says in a low voice, sporting a smirk.

She materializes beside the fire. Her face is angry - so angry. She snatches at another arrow but doesn't shoot it. "Still awake?" She says with malice in her voice.

"I can't really sleep, can I? Knowing you're on the loose." He says with a smirk. "Intent on killing again."

"You promised!" She hisses. "You promised not to fall in love with her."

"I... I'm not." Pan says, resolve lowering slightly. "Tinkerbell, you need to learn to control yourself."

"Why? Because I'm too jealous?" She spits into the fire. "That girl is trouble, Pan. She'll take your heart and rip it into a million pieces."

"But it's not mine, is it? It's hers." He raises an eyebrow at her. "I used to think you were a good fairy, but going behind my back - poisoning her - and now trying to kill her again - it's not helping."

"You..." Tinkerbell throws a fire ball at him. Counteracting it with a forcefield of ice, he frowns.

"Tink..."

"No!" She throws two knives forwards, hard. With a wave of his hand, they embedd themselves in an above tree branch.

"Stop. I'm not in the mood for this. Leave me alone."

"You don't mean that Peter Pan." Tinkerbell's mouth drops open. "You... can't."

"I do. As my fairy... I'm telling you. Leave. Now." He raises his voice slightly.

Wide eyed, she stares at him. "Don't say I didn't warn you." She disappears in a huff.

He sighs, looking down. Ruby is still asleep. Tired, he leans back against the tree and closes his eyes. They will not be disturbed again tonight.

A/N: I'm sorry for making Tinkerbell evil. *sigh* It was the hardest thing I had to do. Believe me. :( I love Tink too. But there had to be some opposition. ;)
