Chapter 45- *Mai* Jounin years and the Kyuubi's attack (Part 1)

 Jounin Days

I laughed loudly, my hands on my hips while I looked at my genin team. My team looked at me worried before glancing over at Minato, who seemed to ignore my excited attitude.

"What's wrong with her?" The kid with some goggles asked, from his black hair and eyes, I could tell he was a Uchiha.

Minato sighed, "She's just excited that she finally get's a genin team...even though you're my team as well."

"Okay!" I shouted, making all of the new genin look at me. "Introduce yourselfs! Mina-kun and I will go first to show you how it's done!" I grinned. "I'm Mai Suishou, my hobbies include burning Jiraiya sensei's perverted books and watching him cry as I do it. I like beating up perverts, training, and sushi! My dislikes are strict people," I paused to glance at Minato, who only gave me a pointed look. "I also dislike bitter things. My goal for the future is not anything you three need to worry about! Your turn, Mina-kun!"

Minato sighed before smiling. "I'm Minato Namikaze, my hobbies include spending time with Kushina-chan among other things. I like Konoha-"

"Red heads." I said quickly, which ended up with a smack to the head. I cried out in complaint, Minato only smiled at our students.

"My dislikes include those who harm the people I care about. My goal for the future is to become the Hokage." Minato finished.

"Okay! You, with the silver hair!" I pointed to the kid who wore a mask and had sticking up silver hair.

He nodded, "My name is Kakashi Hatake, I don't like or dislike anything, my hobbies include training, and my dream for the future is none of you concerns."

I only grinned at Kakashi, which he took by surprise for a moment before composing himself. 'So, this would be the White Fang's kid. He's too emotionless, I'll have to work on him.' My eyes wondered to the boy next to him, who shared similarities to the Uchiha."You, with the goggles."

He grinned back at me. "I'm Obito Uchiha! My hobbies are helping people and training, my likes include lots of things..." He paused to glance at the female in our team before continuing. "My dislikes are people who abandon those they are for. And my dream for the future...  I haven't thought of it yet."

'So, he's the kid who dosen't know his parents. He's still bright as ever, but I can still see that sadness in his eyes...' I looked over to the female in the team. "You're next!"

She smiled sweetly at me, " I'm Rin Nohara, my likes are my friends and those I care about, my dislikes are people who hurt those I care about. My hobbies are spending my free time with friends. And my dream for the future is to become a medical ninja."

I grinned, "Wow, Mina-kun, it seems we got quite the team, huh?"

He glanced at me, a small smile present on his face. "I would have to agree with you, Mai-chan."

I turned back to the newly found genin, my grin forming into a smirk. "Tomorrow we have a exercises for you guys. It's going to be a survival test, to see if you guys make it as genin. If you were to fail this test, then we will be sending you back to the academy."

Their eyes widened, "What?! B-But we worked hard to get here!" Obito shouted.

"Then you should work hard to keep your position, Obito." I answered, standing up. "I do need to tell you guys one important thing, don't eat breakfast. With what we're doing tomorrow you're likely to puke. Come on Mina-kun!"

Grabbing onto Minato's arm I jumped down the building. Minato sighed at me, "I thought I was going to be the one to explain the test to them."

I stuck out my tongue childishly, "Well too bad, I did it first."

"Minato-kun! Mai-chan! Dattebane!" I grinned and looked over to see Minato's finance running towards us, beside her was Teno.

"Oi, Kush-chan! Te-kun!" I shouted back as they finally caught up to us.

While Minato and Kushina turned to talk, Teno looked at me. His face turned red while he tried to talk. I leaned towards him, "Do you have a fever, Te-kun?"

His eyes widened, but before he could say anything Kushina slapped me on the back. "Mai! Teno-kun dosen't have a fever! It's just hot outside!" She got a look of almost gratefulness from Teno.

I blinked, "Is it? I didn't notice, sorry Te-kun!"

He offered a shaky smile to me. "It's okay, Mai-chan."

A big grin formed on my face, "Did you hear?! I got my own genin team!"

Finally seeming more confidant he smiled back at me. "I did hear, that's great, Mai-chan!" A smirk formed on his face, "Did you hear about me?"

I tilted my head, "What?"

He puffed out his chest, "I made it to ANBU."

A big grin formed on my face before I tackled Teno in a hug. "That's great, Te-kun!"

"So, Mai... I was wondering if maybe you wanted to get something to eat later?" Teno asked.

I tilted my head before grinning. "Yeah! Hey, Mina-kun, Kush-chan let's all go get something to eat!" I didn't notice Teno practically fall to the ground.

"Oh, did Teno finally get enough nerve to ask Mai out?" I looked behind us to see my two favorite teachers, Jiraiya and Tsunade.

I turned to smile at them. "What do you mean?"

They paused, sharing a look before smiling at me. "Oh, nothing, Mai."

Tsunade slapped me on the back, I winced slightly but my grin didn't faulter. "So, you finally got your own team, huh?"

I nodded, "Yeah! I'd say we got the best team ever!"

Jiraiya rubbed his chin, "Oh, I don't know about that."

My eyes narrowed,"What's that supposed to mean?"

His eyes widened, "I-I mean that you and Minato were my best students, making our team the best team."

"Oh," I smiled. "My bad!"

"So, Teno." Jiraiya said, grabbing Tenoby his shoulder. "I would like to talk to you for a bit."

Teno's bright green eyes blinked before he nodded. "Yes, Jiraiya-sama."

"Kaka-kun! Obi-kun!" I shouted grabbing both genin and hugging them. "You did great during  training today!"

"Minato sensei!" Kakashi pleaded as I hugged him and Obito.

Obito grinned while I hugged him, used to me by now. I pouted at Kakashi as he ripped himself out of my arms. "Awe, Kaka-kun!"

He huffed, "I'm going home, since training is done today."

Rin stared as Kakashi walked off, unaware of Obito looking at Rin. Carefuly I placed Obito on the ground. I ruffled his hair, "That was great, Obi-kun. Your jutsu's are getting better everyday!"

He looked at me, a grin forming as he did so. "Really?!"

I nodded, "Yeah! Keep up the good work!" My voice grew more quiet as I looked at him. "You wanna come over for dinner again tonight?"

He paused before nodding silently, I smiled and dismissed him. "Okay, I'll see you later then, Obito."

"Bye Mai sensei, Minato sensei, Rin-chan!" He shouted while running off.

Minato let out a breath, smiling at us before saying his goodbyes and heading home to Kushina. I looked at Rin. "You ready to do some medical training?"

She smiled at me, "Yeah, Mai sensei!"

I ruffled her short brown hair, making her giggle. "Okay, go grab us a fish!"

She nodded and went to go and get the fish from yesterday. I watched as she ran to get it, unaware of the person behind me. My body froze when a kunai was placed to my back.

"Konoha's Shining Crystal, correct?" A man's voice asked gruffly.

"Who wants to know?" I asked.

"Nobody you need to worry about. I suggest you don't move, or the kid over there dies." My eyes widened as a gloved have pointed over to Rin.

"Okay, but what do you want?" I asked.

"To eliminate all crystal users. It did take us a while to catch you, but now that I've found you it's time to die. First things first though, I need to take you back to the boss, he want's to see you eliminated in his own eyes." He ordered, pushing the kunai deeper into my back.

"Well damn, I was holding to help out my student train some more, then go home and have a nice dinner." I sighed but moved along, glancing at Rin worried. "You can't harm the girl though,  you do that an I'll stop working with you."

"Yeah yeah, she's not a crystal user so she's of no use to us." He said.

My face faded of emotions as another ninja met up with the first one. One of the newer males walked over to me, "I keep forgetting how attractive these crystal users look. Too bad the boss want's them all dead."

"We should hurry up, we don't want to be there too late. Did you take care of the kid?" My eyes grew wide as anger swelled in me.

"Yeah, she wasn't hard at all."

I stopped moving, making the kunai to my back press deeper in. "Hey, keep moving!"

"Did you harm the girl?" My voice was quiet and deadly.

The man in front of me smirked, his hand gripping his sword. "Yeah, she wasn't a challenge at all, my sword cut through her like butter." He pulled out his blade, still stained red.

I clenched my teeth, my blue eyes widening as I went to charge at him. Light pink crystal formed into a blade. The man behind me grabbed my by my waist, one hand holding my waist, the other hand holding my arm.

"Now, now, no need to get angry. We chouldn't chance her telling anyone about your sudden dissapearence." He sighed. "And here I was hoping we wouldn't have to harm you before we got you over to the boss."

The man in front of me smirked, his grip on his sword growing harder. "May I?"

"I guess so, cut off her hand, she has no use for it anyway." A low chuckle sounded behind me.

I focused my chakra to my wrist, where the man's hand was. A small screech told me that I had partly crystallized his hand. "You bitch!" He kicked my in the back, sending my body towards the blade.

My eyes widened as the blade cut though my stomach. Pain exploded through me as my blood dripped onto the ground.

"Mai sensei!"

"Mai-chan!"

The man in front of me shoved me back off of his blade, letting me catch a glance at who had shouted my name. The boy with orange goggles and a blue Uchiha outfit stood beside a brown haired man with dazzling green eyes.

I staggered as I tried to stay standing. "Obito, Teno, get out of here." I whispered, my head facing the ground.

"M-Mai sensei." Obito muttered, his voice faltering as he saw my blood drip to the ground.

"Obito, listen to what I just told you! Get out of here, you too Teno!" I shouted.

"Obito, go." Teno's deep voice ordered.

"B-But-"

"Listen to what we just said, go." Teno growled, when running footsteps sounded, I guessed he listened.

"T-Teno, you too." I tried to keep my voice steady as blood filled my mouth due to my stomach wound.

"Damn crystal user!" My eyes widened as the man got up and charged at me again, his sword pointed for my heart.

In a second, Teno was in front of me, blocking the sword. "Air bullets!" He blew out air, sending the man to the ground with a cry and stream of blood.

He looked behind me to see the man on the ground clutching his hand. Teno's bright green eyes glanced at me, concern filling them before he knocked out the man. Turning to me, his eyes flashed with anger.

"You're a jounin! Why didn't you defend yourself?!" He gripped my shoulders.

My blue eyes met his furious green ones. "Rin... She could have been hurt..."

His eyes softened for a moment before his grip tightened. "But, what about when you got away from Rin?! You should have been able to fight back! Why didn't you even try anything?" His voice grew faded out.

My eyes dropped to the ground, no longer looking like the seventeen-year-old almost eighteen I am. "They would have caught me one way of another. You, like everyone, probably don't know why I was sent to this village, do you?"

"I do. Jiraiya-sama explained to me, because he figured something would happen to you, and I wanted to be able to be able to protect you." He muttered. " Those guys, they wanted to kill you, right? Because of your crysta chakra?"

I nodded slowly. "Yes, they have been looking all around for us crystal users for a while."

"Why didn't you fight back? Didn't you want to end their lives for what they've done?" He asked.

"I-I didn't care. They would have sent more people after me later, and it could have caused a war upon Konoha, and I don't want any more wars happening here. I figured it I-I just let them kill me they could leave Konoha alone." I muttered quietly.

"Idiot!" He shouted, my eyes widened as he softly shook my shoulders. "You idiot. By doing that, you would have caused a lot of heart ache. We would rather fight for you, than have to know you gave up your life, Mai. Don't ever go making decisions like that, do you understand me?! As long as I'm breathing, I won't let anything happen to you!"

My lip quivered while my face looked back to the ground, salty tears forming in my eyes. "I-I'm sorry... I didn't t-think it would have effected you guys so much..."

He pulled me closer to him, gripping my back tightly. "You're such an idiot, Mai. Come on, I need to get you to a hospital quickly."

"Oh! Lookie here, Minato! It seems like Mai has a little crush!" Jiraiya grinned, nudging Minato. I looked in the other direction, ignoring their teasing as I was unable to leave the hospital at the moment.

"So, Mai-chan, did Teno save you?" Minato asked, leaning over to me. My eye twitched as I suddenly regretted ever teasing those two.

"I don't have to answer any of your questions. One of you is an idiot and the other is a pervert." I resorted, making both men anime fall.

The door slip open to show my team. Obito ran over to me quickly, Rin following after him. "Mai sensei! Are you okay?!"

I offered a smile, "I'm fine. Your sensei dosen't die that easily. Rin, are you okay?"

She blinked before smiling at me, "Yes, I'm okay, Mai sensei. It was just a swipe in the back, the nurses said it wasn't that deep."

"That's good." I patted her head before a dozen flowers were shoved in my face.

Peaking over the flowers I was greeted by Kakashi looking the other direction trying to show no emotion. "Here, Obito and Rin got you flowers, but they made me hold them."

"Liar!" Obito and Rin shouted, pointing at Kakashi.

I chuckled, "Well, I'll just guess it's from all of you guys, thank you."

"Okay guys, let's let Mai get some rest. We have some missions to do today." Minato interrupted, offering a smile at me.

I grinned back at him as our students complained but listened to what he said and left the room with a goodbye. "Hey, Mina-kun.."

He paused to look at me. "What is it,Mai-chan?"

"I guess you're not that wimpy anymore, almost man enough to become the Hokage." I looked the other direction, he chuckled.

"Thanks, Mai." With that Minato and our little team of genin left.

Jiraiya looked at me, a small frown on his face. "Mai, Teno told me what happened. You should listen to him, you know."

I bit the inside of my cheek, he continued, this time a smirk o his face. "You know, you're very clueless when it comes to love, Mai."

I blinked before looking up at my teacher. "What do you mean?"

"Teno has liked you for a while now, as a matter of face, he's practically asked you out a couple of times!" Jiraiya laughed.

My eyes widened, "W-What? Really?"

He nodded, "That poor boy, I think he's had a crush on you since you first came here. Oh, and one more thing, he dosen't turn red because of a fever or it's ot outside, he's red because he's blushing. Now I suggest you go and talk to him soon, after all he did take the time to track you down and save you."

A knock on the door interrupted our conversation. "Come in," I said.

The door slid open to show Teno, his wolf ANBU mask on his hip as he walked over to me. A smile pulled at his lips as he walked over to me. "Good morning, Mai-chan. How are you feeling?"

I returned his smile, "Good morning, Te-kun."

"Well, I'll just be leaving you two. You know how busy I am, Mai." Jiraiya walked over to the window, sliding it open.

I narrowed my eyes, "You better not go peeking."

He chuckled, "It's not like you can do anything about it, you're in the hospital. Bye, Teno, Mai."

I huffed when he jumped out of the window. Teno looked at me. "So, Mai... I was wondering if maybe you would like to... maybe go on a d-date with me."

My eyes widened before a soft smile formed on my lips. "Teno, I would love to go on a date with you."

My eyes widened as I looked at the letter the Hokage had given me a while ago. My lip quivered as tears slipped down my face. Minato, having been beside me looked worried.

"M-Mai-chan? What's wrong?" He asked, having never seen me cry before.

A smile formed on my face, "No, it's not what's wrong. Mina-kun, I-I can finally go home."

Confusion set on his face. "Go home? But aren't you already home?"

"I mean where I was born, my real home. The Kessho village, I can finally go back!" A childish laugh escaped me.

Minato gave a sad smile, "So then... you're leaving?"

I paused, looking at Minato who seemed to be suddenly holding back tears. "No, I'm not leaving. But I think maybe a visit could be in mind. Minato... would you mind if I borrowed our team for a couple of days? I'm sure the Kessho village needs some help being rebuilt, and I want to visit them."

He smiled at me, "I guess I wouldn't mind you taking Kakashi, Rin, and Obito. The Hokage did after all say I was on vacation for a little bit, so go ahead."

I squealed while hugging my blonde friend, "Thank you Mina-kun!" I turned to take off running, only pausing when I heard Minato.

"Just make sure that you practice that jutsu I showed you!" He ordered. I nodded before running off to the Hokage.

"Do I have to meet your clan?" I asked, my hands fidgeting.

Teno laughed at me, grabbing onto one of my hands. "Come on, Mai. We're engaged and you have yet to meet my clan! And, in case you didn't know I am one of the clan leaders, so people have been wanting to meet you. And my mother hasn't shut up about meeting you, come on Mai-chan."

Sighing I gave in. "Fine, let's make this quick."

He chuckled at me before leading the way to his clan. I glanced at the entrance of the Okami clan, which showed a detailed carving of a wolf on the doors.

Two men sitting at the doors smiled when they saw Teno. Both had the same dazzling green eyes and brown hair, it was easy to see they were related.

"Teno-sama!" They greeted, glancing at me with only a slight ounce of confusion forming on their faces. "Who's this?"

Teno smiled at them, wrapping his arm around my shoulder. "Hey guys, this is Mai-chan."

Their green eyes widened before they smiled kindly at me. "Hello, Mai-san. Welcome to the Okami residence."

Feeling flustered I offered back a smile, "Thank you."

Chuckling Teno steered me through the clan full of brown haired and green eyed people. Each of them taking their time to say hello to Teno and greet me kindly.

"Te-kun, are you really the person to be the head of the clan next?" I asked.

He nodded, "I am. Here we are, Mom and Dad are probably inside waiting on us.-"

"Teno!" The front door opened to show a woman with long light brown hair and dark green eyes. A irritated look was set on her face while she looked at Teno, who seemed to stiffen beside me.

"H-Hello, Mom." He gave a shaky smile.

She glanced at him before her eyes wondered over to me, where her look of irritation quickly melted off. She grabbed me, dragging me away from Teno, who still stood in his spot still as if he turned to stone. "You must be Mai, I've heard so much about you dear! I just wish I could have met you sooner, but Teno here thought it would be funny to keep you from meeting us for so long!" She glared at Teno.

I smiled back at her, "It's a pleasure to meet you,-"

Her green eyes widened, "Oh, where are my manners! I'm Ichigo and-" She paused looking around before shouting, "Tenzo! Get your ass out here, Teno and his lovely finance are here!"

"Coming!" A man shouted before a tall man with dark brown hair and green eyes identical to Teno's walked over to stand beside Ichigo.

With my blonde hair and blue eyes I stuck out like a sore thumb in this clan. Teno, having finally recovered walked over to me and once again placed his arm around my shoulder. "Mai, these are my parents, Ichigo, and Tenzo. Mom, Dad, this is Mai."

"Yes Teno, I believe we established that already." Ichigo rolled her eyes before grabbing my handsand dragging me away from the boys. "Now, I have to go and talk with Mai, as she is my soon to be daughter-in-law."

I glanced back at Teno worried, but he only offered a smile. My head snapped back to Ichigo, who had a smile on her face while she dragged me to her backyard. My eyes narrowed in on the scroll that had been placed on the patio table. Ichigo gestured to one of the chairs while she closed the door and sat in the other one.

Sitting down slowly I glanced around her yard, which was filled with multiple flowers and grass greener than most in Konoha. It brought a small smile to my face as I looked around at all of the colors, suddenly reminding me of the Kessho village.

My eyes snapped from the beautiful garden to Ichigo when she spoke. "Mai, I'm positive that my son has yet to tell you anything of this clan, am I right?" She asked, a small ounce of worry laced in her voice.

I nodded, "Yes, that would be correct."

She signed. "Let me say the bad news first. With this clan we have a doujutsu, the Tensai." She paused, "You have at least heard of this, right?" Once I nodded, she continued. "Good, now while it is a great thing, I will have to warn you of what it could bring. Just like my daughter, Yuki, Teno's younger sister, many have chances of coming down with a illness. If you and Teno are to have children, which I already know you two will, there is a chance of him or her having this illness. There are not many things we can do, as it is caused by our Tensai, normally the stronger it is, the better the chances of having the illness is."

She paused to look sadly before she looked back at me. "I just thought that you should be warned of what could happen, in case you don't want to have any children with Teno. I would understand, believe me there are many people who have passed up the offer of marring an Okami due to the chances of one of their beloved children coming down with an illness and possibly dying. What I need to know right now is, are you willing to take the chance of having a child with the illness? Even if the fact that us being the leaders of the clan have a even higher risk of this illness."

I blinked, thinking over overything she had just told me before I nodded. "I love Teno, and I would be willing to take the risk. Besides, I have faith that our child will not have any illness, and even if they do I will do everything in my power to stop it."

A smile formed on her lips. "I'm glad, but there is one more thing. As you will be marring Teno, he cannot be the leader of this village. Now before you think I'm saying this because I don't want you as my daughter-in-law then your wrong. What I mean by this is that if you are only marring my son because you want some kind of power, then you better get out of here." Her eyes narrowed on me.

I shook my head. "No, that's not it at all. To be honest I didn't even know about him being the future leader of the clan until today."

With that, a bright smile formed on her face. "Good, then it is fine by me if you marry my son.  Now, I want to tell you something that can be of good news. Once you and Teno are married, I'm going to pass on the summoning scroll to you." She pointed to the scroll that was placed on the table. "The female of every Okami clan leader, such as myself, has signed this scroll. If you haven't figured it out by now, it is for a wolf summoning. While you and Teno won't be the leaders on the village, I am still in charge of who signs the scroll. That, and your child will be the one who will take charge of this clan."

I looked at her confused, "Why would Teno's and my child be the one to take over the clan? If Teno and I are not the leaders ourselves?"

"Because, the person who will take over as the leader cannot have children. Yuki, our daughter with the illness, she is unable to have any children. Due to her illness her body is to weak to give birth to a living child, and if she were to try the child and even possibly even her could die." My eyes widened as Ichigo shook her head sadly. "So, we agreed that she would take over the clan until your child would be old enough to take over."

I nodded, "I understand."

"Well, enough of this sad news. When you and Teno marry, you will receive this summoning scroll where you will make a summoning contract with our wolfs. Then, if will be up to you to watch over this scroll and later on teach your child how to summon our wolfs. They have been with us for a very long time, Mai, I hope you will treat them kindly." She smiled at me.

I nodded, "Yes! I will, they will be treated just like my friends and comrades. Thank you!"

She laughed at me, "Mai, there is no need to thank me."

Third Shinobi War

"Kaka-kun!" I shouted, running to my silver haired student. He made a grunting sound as I picked him up and hugged him. "You're a jounin now! I'm so proud of you!"

Rin giggled beside me while Minato chuckled. While I had arrived a little late, I wasn't as late at Obito. "Mai sensei, can you please put me down?"

I pouted but did as he asked. "Kaka-kun, you haven't changed a bit. You're still as mean as ever, and you haven't grown at all!"

"Mai-chan, leave Kakashi's height out of this." Minato placed his hand on my shoulder.

I sighed but nodded and retreated over to the rock that was beside us before sitting down. My troubles going towards the war that was going on. 'I hope these guys can handle it... Even if Kakashi is a Jounin, I don't want him to be too troubled with the war.'

Minato sat next to me, he caught my troubled look and offered a smile. "It will be okay, Mai-chan. I know what you're thinking, and yes, I'm sure our team can handle it." His voice was low, as to not let our team hear. "Besides, Kakashi is now a jounin, and Rin and Obito are chunin, they will do just fine."

I nodded slowly, "Yeah, after all, the Yellow Flash and the Shining Crystal are their teachers."

He smiled at me before laughing. "Yeah!"

A person stumbling to the ground made us stop and turn to look. A smile formed as I saw Obito laying clumsily on the ground. He looked up at us, "Did I make it?"

Kakashi stood in front of Obito, his arms crossed. "No. You're late, Obito." He leaned down a little closer to Obito. "When did you think we were supposed to meet up today? When becoming a shinobi, following the rules is common sense, right?"

Obito sat up, "No, you see while coming here, I ended up having to help an old lady who had too much luggage cross the street. And something was in my eye..."

"Yeah right, that was a lie wasn't it?" Kakashi muttered.

I smiled as well as Kakashi while we looked back at our bickering students. Obito had taken off his goggles to put some eyedrops in his eye.

"Don't say that, Kakashi." Minato smiled. "You helped the old lady, didn't you, Obito?"

Obito nodded, "Yeah! I even carried her luggage!"

I smiled, "That was very sweet, Obi-kun!"

"Minato sensei, Mai sensei, you both are to easy on him. If he keeps acting around like this around people. they'll just be in trouble, right? Those who break the rules and regulations are called trash. Right?" Kakashi asked.

My smile dropped from my face while Minato looked sheepish. "Kakashi." My voice made everyone freeze and look at me. "I've told you this before, and I'll tell you again. While it is important to follow rules, there are times when it is okay to break them. But, if you break them, make sure it is for something good. Don't put rules over something as valuable as someone's life, understand me?"

Kakashi looked away, obviously not caring what I said. Obito and Rin nodded slightly at what I said. I turned away from them.

"Can't you ever be nice sometimes?" Obito demanded to Kakashi. "You're always bitching about these 'rules' and 'laws' and it's getting damn annoying! What matters is discipline!"

"Now, now. Cut it out you two." Rin stepped in, hoping to calm down the two boys. "You're on the same team, you know?"

Kakashi glanced at Rin. "Rin, you're too soft on him. Today is a very special day for me."

"Y-Yes, that's right." Rin replied.

"What is that again?" Obito asked.

I snickered before Minato hit me over the head while giving me a look.

"Starting today, Kakashi is a jounin, just like Mai and I. So, to make this mission more efficient we are going to split into two teams. Since Konoha's military power has reached a all time low now..." Minato explained as we walked.

"Split up then..." Obito muttered.

I spoke up, "Yeah. With Kakashi as the captain, you will form a three man cell. Minato and I will go as a team together."

Rin glanced at Obito. "Didn't we talk about this already, Obito? Did you get a present for Kakashi?"

Obito looked in the other direction, a irritated look on his face. I patted his shoulder, already knowing of his crush on Rin due to him telling me so.

"Sorry, I wasn't listening..." Obito muttered, making Kakashi glance at him.

Minato pulled out one of his custom kunai, a smile on his face. "This is from me. It's a custom made kunai. It's a little heavy and its shape is irregular, but when you get used to it, it's easy to use."

Kakashi caught it, "Thanks."

Rin reached in her bag. "This is from me. Here! It's a special medical pack for personal use. It's been improved so it's easy to use."

Kakashi took the medical pack from a smiling Rin. "Thank you."

I smiled at Kakashi, pulling out one of my weapon summoning scrolls. Wiping some blood on it a black crystal sword popped out. Catching it I held it our to Kakashi. "Here you go, Kaka-kun. It's a crystal sword from my home village. It's very light and harder than steal, believe it or not. You won't ever find another like it, so treat it with care."

He took the sword from me, inspecting the crystal. "Thank you." Kakashi turned to Obito, holding his hand out.

I looked at Obito, a small smile still present on my face. "W-What do you want exactly? I didn't get anything for you!"

"Well, whatever. It's not like you would have given me anything decent anyway." I sighed at Kakashi. "Anything you would have bought would have just become useless luggage anyway."

Obito angry pointed a finger at Kakashi. "How ever you became a Jounin, I'll never know!"

"You're one to talk." Kakashi muttered.

Obito put his finger in Kakashi's face. "I am Obito Uchiha of the Uchiha clan, and one day I will surpass you once I awaken my Sharingan!"

"The Uchiha clan's supposed to be a group of elites, right? I guess they entrusted too much of you when-"

"Kakashi, that's enough." I snapped.

Once again Kakashi and Obito looked at me shocked. While I normally wouldn't have stopped their bickering, I felt that Kakashi was about to step over a line.

Coughing I pulled out three bracelets. "Besides, I wanted to give you all something."

My students looked at me, Obito approached me first, having ignored Kakashi now. "What is that Mai sensei?"

I smiled before handing him a green crystal bracelet with his name on it. "It's made from my chakra, if you guys are ever low on chakra, just use this bracelet."

Obito looked at the crystal green bracelet before sliding it on his wrist, where the bracelet fit perfectly. I handed Kakashi and Rin their own green crystal bracelet. "Just to be sure that you guys do good on this mission."

"Thank you Mai sensei!" Obito grinned at me, I returned his grin.

"Thank you, Mai sensei." Rin smiled.

"Thanks, sensei." Kakashi muttered

Minato chuckled, "Should I explain the mission now? We're almost at the border."

Minato pulled out a map as we all sat down under a nearby tree. "Got it? It's this line. Right now, the Earth Country is invading the Hidden Grass village. Of course, the enemy are Hidden Rock shinobi. We have information that they have over a thousand ninja at the front line already."

"Their advancing a lot faster than before." Obito muttered.

"The Fire Country also borders with the Hidden Grass village, so if we wait, it's going to be too late." Kakashi added.

"Based on the way they are advancing, their backup must be pretty smooth as well, right?" Rin muttered, a almost invisible smile formed on my lips at my students.

"Well our mission this time is here: Kannabi Bridge." I pointed on the map. "In order to strike back at the enemy, we need a lot of manpower. To be able to do this, we, the few select ninja, are going to sabotage them." I explained.

"The bridge..?" Kakashi whispered. "So this a sneaking mission?" He looked at Minato and I.

Minato nodded, "Team Kakashi, your mission is to infiltrate the enemy's back line, then blow up the bridge their using for supplies before withdrawing."

They all nodded in understanding. Obito looked at me, "What about you and Minato sensei?"

"We will engage the enemy's front lines in order to divert them away from you guys." I answered.

"Well, this is Kakashi's first mission as a captain, so we'll go together to the border, but once we're there, we'll split up and begin our mission." Minato said before placing his hand in the middle, I placed mine on top of his before our team followed our example.

A smile formed on my face when Kakashi held out his arm, ordering us all to stop. Minato had the same reaction as I did. We each stopped, my eyes looked in the source of the chakra. Minato and Kakashi looked at me.

"Mai sensei, how many are there?" Kakashi asked.

"There is one, but he has about twenty shadow clones." I answered.

"Mai sensei, Minato sensei, I'll go first." Kakashi said. "Please cover me."

"Don't be too hasty, Kakashi." Minato grunted. "You should just be the backup."

Kakashi formed handsigns, "Sensei, I'm the captain today, right? Besides, now's the excellent time to try out my new jutsu I've been developing. Chidori!" My eyes widened slightly at the loud lightning that had formed on Kakashi's hand. "Let's go."

I held out my arm in front of Kakashi, my protective instincts kicking in. While I had yet to admit it, these three kids on my team were almost like my own children. Especially with Obito not knowing his parents and Kakashi's passing away, it seems now I didn't want to let him go by himself.

Kakashi's eyes widened as he looked at me. "It dosen't matter how many enemys there are, I'll end this in a flash. Besides, Mai sensei, I am the leader of this mission. It's a rule that a team must follow its leader's orders. Right, sensei?"

Minato softly grabbed onto my arm and pulled it out of Kakashi's way. When I shot him a look of shock he didn't glance at me.

Pieces of wood shot up everywhere as Kakashi dashed to where the enemy was. Seeing the kunai and shuriken going towards Kakashi I formed crystal out of the air to protect him before making it disappear again.

My eyes snapped over to Obito as one of the clones formed out of the ground. Flipping over to him, I stabbed the clone with a kunai. I glanced at a shocked Obito, "You Okay, Obito?" Once he nodded I added, "Don't let your guard down."

"Don't push your luck, brat!" I looked over to Minato, who nodded.

Grabbing onto his arm he teleported us over to Kakashi. I grabbed Kakashi, feeling the enemy's sword slash through my side as I jumped off with Kakashi. Minato shortly behind us.

I glanced at Minato, he nodded at my unheard question. Placing Kakashi on the ground, Minato and I pulled off our backpacks. Glancing at each other I slapped my hand against his. With this we both appeared in front of the man just before our backpacks hit the ground.

Minato appeared Behan the man while I appeared in front of him. Minato raised a kunai to his neck while I placed a crystal spear at his heart.

The man looked terrified as he met my piercing blue eyes. "No way. Are you the Yellow Flash and the Shinning Crystal? Back at the Rock village our superiors told us to run away no matter what if we saw you him or her. Now I know what they meant."

I pushed forward, my crystal going through the man's body like butter. At the same time Minato slashed across the man's neck.

We jumped back to our team, I winced as the pain from the slash earlier set in. Rin caught my look and ran over to me. "Mai sensei, let me heal you."

"I'm fine, Rin. Save your chakra for when you have to heal one of these boys. I can deal with myself, it is not too deep." I offered a smile.

"You went against Sensei's orders! And now Mai sensei is hurt because of you!" Obito shouted at Kakashi.

"I don't have to say anything to a elite Uchiha crybaby who pissed his pants." Kakashi narrowed his eyes.

"Well.. I-I had something in my eyes so tears started coming out!" Obito defended.

"Do you know the 25th shinobi rule?" Kakashi asked. "It stated: 'A shinobi must never show his tears.' Obviously Mai sensei know's this, haven't you noticed how different she is on the battle field than when she's not?"

My hand rested on my side as I healed myself. Rin looked at me worried before looking over at the two boys, "Hey, you two should stop this."

Minato gave a hard look at both boys. "Take it easy now, you two." Our team looked at Minato shocked that he had intervened between their bickering. "Kakashi, it is true that rules and regulations are there to be followed, but that's not all there is to it. I've told you before, ther are times when you have to cope with the situation."

"You see!" Obito shouted.

"Obito, you too. You're wearing goggles, so there is no way something could have gotten into your eyes. If you don't control your mouth, you mind will just become weak." I shot Minato a look, which he ignored. "And one more thing.. Kakashi, you shouldn't use that jutsu again. It's true that you have the destructive force and speed needed for it, but when you're moving too fast, it's near impossible for you to see the enemy counter your attack. Therefore, it is an incomplete jutsu. Before we leave, I'll say this again. The most important thing for shinobi is teamwork." Each of them looked down at the ground.

Minato looked at me, "Mai-chan, are you sure you're okay?"

I looked at Minato, I nodded not wanting to tell him how deep the wound was surprisingly. He glanced at me for a moment longer, almost seeming to know my lie before he nodded.
