The Art of Teaching Your Goddaughter to Fist Bump

Tony was taking a call in the other room. Something important was happening with some sort of business transaction or other. Rhodey didn't have details, nor did he want them; he didn't know how Tony could keep up with all this stuff. Though, it was mostly Pepper who did that. She was on vacation that week, which added to Tony's stress despite the fact that she made extensive preparations before she left.

Grace wasn't too happy about Pepper being gone, either.

She was sitting next to Rhodey on the couch, holding her teddy bear, her head leaned back. He didn't know how she was watching the TV from that angle. Dora was on. She didn't seem too enthused by it.

"You seen this one before?" Rhodey asked, amused at the bored expression on her face.

She turned to him. "What?"

He pointed to the TV. "You seen this episode before?"

She sighed and nodded. "Yeah. They make it to the party at the end."

"Ah."

She sighed again, messily pushing her hair out of her face before holding her teddy bear a bit tighter. She eyed the Disney movies on the shelf next to the TV sadly. Rhodey knew that watching Disney movies was something she often did with Pepper.

He sat for a moment, thinking of something to distract her, cheer her up. It came to him rather quickly. "Hey, mini Stark, can I teach you something?"

She only looked half interested, likely due to his choice of verb. "What?"

"It's fun, I promise," he said, and she shifted to face him more. "Put out your hand." She did so without question, mirroring him. "Okay, now make a fist." He did it first, and she watched him with concentration, then did it herself, tucking her thumb under her fingers. Rhodey reached over and corrected her, then made a fist again. "Now..." He hit her fist with his own. "Fist bump. You try."

She looked at him for a second, then hit his fist much harder than he'd hit hers.

Rhodey pretended to be more hurt than he was, shaking his hand. "Not that hard." Grace laughed.

Tony came back in then, putting a smile on his face when Grace looked at him. "Daddy, look!"

She held her fist up, so Rhodey did the same, and she fist bumped him. Tony chuckled. "That's great, sweetheart. Uncle Rhodey teach you that?"

"Yeah," she said, still smiling. She turned, getting on her knees to face him; he was behind the couch. She held her fist up to him, and he bumped it gently with a smile.

"How about some lunch?" he asked. "I can get you a handful of crickets on a bed of lettuce."

Grace made a disgusted face. "Ew."

"You sure?"

"Peanut butter and jelly," she insisted.

Tony chuckled. "You got it, sweetheart." He looked at Rhodey. "What about you? You want some crickets?"

"I think I'll find something else, thanks," Rhodey replied, starting to laugh.

Grace lifted her hands to Tony, and he picked her up, then the three of them headed to the kitchen for some lunch.
