Their Nightmare

"Excuse me, did you two hear me? My wife is wanting me to bring Dalton to her," I say and noticed the horrified look on their faces.

"Mr. Nelson, we, um,"

"What? Where is my son, Nurse Greaver?"

"He isn't exactly here right now, Mr. Nelson," she says in a whispering tone.

"Okay, so, Dalton isn't in the nursery? Is he having more tests? His doctor said he's in great health, did something come up that my wife and I should know about?" I asked almost in a panic tone.

"Oh god, I swear to you, Mr. Nelson, I have no idea how this could have happened. Given who you are, we made sure to also include our hospital security along with your security. I promise you, we will do everything we can to find your son," she panics and I start feeling light headed hearing her terrifying words.

"What the hell do you mean you will do everything you can to find my son? Where the hell is he?" I shout causing them both to jump.

"We don't know, Mr. Nelson. We went to go pick him up out of his basinet, and he wasn't there. We have no idea where your son is," she sniffles. I fall back against the wall and bend over holding my stomach.

"Oh god, someone please, tell me this isn't happening," I snap.

"P, what's wrong? I could hear you all the way in the waiting room.

"Jerome, someone took Dalton, he's gone. Call your cop buddies, I want them, the FBI, everyone we can think of to find my son."

"Wait, what? What do you mean Dalton's gone, Prince?"

"Someone took my son, they kidnapped him. Oh my god, Grace, she's still waiting for me to bring him to her, and where's Binky?"

"Fiona took Grace home with her. Prince, our security has been here the entire time, along with the hospitals security, how the hell did someone walk out of here with Dalton?"

"Do I look I know, Jerome?   Obviously someone slipped passed the security, shit."

"What, Prince?"

"Between my security, the hospital's security, it would be nearly impossible to get passed them.'

"Shit, I think I know what you're thinking, P. Go stay with Grace and I'll call my buddies."

"What the hell am I going to tell my wife, Jerome?"

"You can always tell her they took Dalton for more tests?"

"No way, I am not about to lie to my wife, not when it comes to our son. We vowed to never be dishonest with each other, no matter what."

"Okay, do you want me to come with you when you tell Grace?" He asks me. I run my fingers through my hair and bend over feeling sick to my stomach.

"This is going to kill her. She wanted so desperately to give me another son, and she knew another son would never replace Gregory, she knew what having another child means to me. I have to admit, when we found out he's a boy, my heart leapt with complete joy. I have been blessed with a daughter, and now, another son, I want my son found, Jerome."

"P, you have to try really try hard to keep it together, Grace is going to need you more than she has ever needed you. I refuse to believe god would give you this miracle to only take it from your again?  I don't believe that, and you can't either. You have to believe we will find Dalton, and he will be back with you and Grace."

"Jerome, what are the chances that Jase is somehow involved in my son's kidnapping?"

"What? Prince, he's dead, you know that."

"What if he isn't, Jerome? What if he somehow survived and he's been somewhere planning and plotting? What better way to hurt me and Grace? If he survived, then he has been keeping an eye on us and he would know how much our son means to us. I am not about to underestimate him, you know what that sick, twisted freak is capable of."

"You're right, P, he had no problem torturing Grace and a little girl. I swear to you, if he is still alive and he has Dalton, I'll move heaven and earth to find him, and I will bring your son back to you and Grace," he assures me. I look up at him with tears falling down my cheeks.

"I remember the pain and suffering I felt when Gregory died, that pain and suffering will never leave me. I have already lost one son, I can not lose Dalton. As much as I love Grace and Binky, losing another son Jerome, I'll never recover from it, and I don't think Grace can suffer anymore than she already has. I remember when we first met that look in her eyes, that dead look. The pain and the suffering she felt like she failed Binky, and she felt like there was no hope for her escaping Jase's torture and abuse.  I know what it feels like to lose a child that you wanted more than anything you have ever wanted. I do not want my wife knowing that pain, feeling the suffering that comes with losing a child."

"P, you're not going to lose Dalton. I will call in the Army if I have to, my brother just got promoted.  I am going to find yours and Grace's son," he hugs me. When he starts to walk away, we hear what sounds like a stampede coming down the hall. We both look to the right and see endless cops running towards us.

"Jerome, you didn't call them yet."

"No, P, I didn't, but the hospital probably called them. It's protocol when a baby is stolen from any hospital, they have to call the cops.

"Okay. Oh god, will this be on the news?"

"Yes, more than likely."

"Shit, I have to tell Grace now. I can't let her hear this on the news."

"Prince, where are you?" I hear Grace screaming for me,"

"Damn, P, that's Grace screaming for you."

"Mr. Nelson, we need you to come with us. We need all information about your son. We need his name, his weight, any visible scars, any birth marks, the color of his eyes and hair," this guy is pulling me down the hall.

"Wait, damn it, stop. I need to go be with my wife, talk to someone in charge of the hospital."

"Prince, where the hell are you?" I hear Grace screaming.

"Guys, come on, you can't do this with Prince right now. His wife doesn't even know yet. Let him go to her and I'll take you to the person in charge of the hospital," Jerome raises his voices.

"Thank you, Jerome," I say and run down the hall. When I get to Grace's room door, I take a deep breath and slowly open the door to see her pulling out her iv from her arm and grabbing her robe.

"Grace, what are you doing?"  She looks over at me and I can see the fear on her face.

"Prince, the news just said  a new born baby was kidnapped from this hospital. Please tell me it's not Dalton, right?"  Her tears fall down her pale face.

"Grace, baby, I need you to get back in bed. I have to tell you something.

"Tell me what, Prince?"

"Jerome and his cop friends are going to find our son. Dalton is the baby who was kidnapped from this hospital," I barely whisper out the words. Grace falls back on the bed and  let's out the loudest screech.

"Nooo, oh god, please, not my baby boy."
