Wishful Thinking -- Nightmares

I hum to myself as I have a bottle in one hand, angling it into Mary's mouth while trying to find anything useful about the coin. "Dean, wake up!" I hear Sam exclaim.

I flinch and gaze over as Dean bolts upright. Earphone dangling. "I'm up!" Dean leans over and grasps the bottle of whiskey by the bed. "Tan, rested, and ready." Dean mentions as he sips at it.

"Dean," I start softly after laying Mary back in her crib. "We seriously need to have a talk." I say calmly.

"Talk? About what?" Dean asks after setting the whiskey down.

"The nightmares, the drinking. We're with you twenty-four seven." I say. "Something's going on, we can both see it."

"Lottie, please," Dean groaned.

"Uriel wasn't lying, but you are." Sam says. Dean gets up slowly. "You remember Hell, don't you?"

"What do you guys want from me, huh? What?" Dean asks.

"The truth, Dean." I ask. "Dean, we're family. I just wish you'd talk to us."

Dean chuckles. "Careful what you wish for."

I scoff. "Cute." I grumble and grab my bottle of soda.

"C'mon, can we stow the couples therapy, huh? We're on a job. I want to work." Dean asks. "What do you guys got?" I try to beat the tears from my lashes before I turn to him. "Lottie?"

I heave a sigh and quickly swipe at my eyes before turning to him, my throat locking and clearing. "We got Teddy Bear, Lottery Guy, Invisible Pervert Guy. They all must've wished in the last two weeks, but who wished first or who else wished for what when?"

Dean hums. "Well, it helps when they announce it in the paper," Dean says. He hands me the paper and points at the engagement announcement. "Goes back a month."

"Wesley Mondale and Ms. Hope Lynn Casey have announced their surprise engagement." I read out.

"True love." Dean sighs.

I shrug. "Well, it's the best lead we got." I toss the paper onto the table and offer Dean a smile. "I'm gonna stay here while you go check in with Mr. And Mrs. True Love."

Dean smiled and kissed my head. "Want me to bring anything back?"

I shake my head. "Just yourself. And some beer, please."

Dean nods and grabs the keys before following Sam out.

I was glad that I decided to walk around-- even if the whole town was going crazy. Because Dean was getting the snot kicked out of him by a kid. "Hey!" I exclaim as I rush towards them.

The boy turns his glare on me, his hand still wrapped around Dean's neck. "Stay out of my way!"

"That's enough," I chime as I grasp his arm and tug it free. He gazed at me wide eyed and punched my leg. I hum as it bounces off, alarm flashing on the boys face. "I get that you're angry, and all, but that doesn't give you the right to beat up people."

"I couldn't stop it!" He shouted at me.

"Yeah, well, I'm ending it," I retort as I lead him around the car. The other boys are still whimpering as they climb out of the car. "You boys listen, and you listen good, you hear me?" All three of them nod quickly. "This is my friend, and if I so much as hear any of you messing with him, there will be hell to pay." I prove my point by reflipping the car. They nod wildly, their gazes locked onto the little boy. "You good here, little man?" I ask as I gaze down at him.

"Yes, thank you." The boy nods immediately.

I smile and walk back to Dean, who's rubbing his neck still. "C'mon, I'm hungry." I chuckle.

Dean nods and points at the boy. "How the hell did you--"

I heave him upwards and shrug. "Dean, I've been able to knock cell doors off of their hinges, stopping a power hungry kid is nothing."

Everything in town seems to be returning to normal now. Which was good. Audrey's parents returned from Bali-- sunburned and miserable-- Teddy tried killing himself, so they had to repair the back of his head. The lottery guy's ticket turned out to be a fake. I heaved out a soft sigh and leaned back against the bench Dean and I were on. "Well, uh, the coin's melted down." Sam mentions as he approaches us. "It shouldn't cause any more problems."

"Audrey's parents are back from Bali. Looks like all the wishes are gone." Dean mentions. "And so are we." I heave another sigh and start walking after Sam. "Hang on a second," Dean stops us.

Sam and I share a look. "What?" I ask.

"You guys were right." Dean admits softly.

Sam and I share another look. "About... what?"

"I shouldn't have lied to you. I do remember everything that happened to me in the pit." Dean states, voice thick. "Everything."

"So tell me about it." Sam says softly.

Dean glances down for a moment before shaking his head. "No. I won't lie anymore. But I'm not gonna talk about it."

"Dean, look, you can't just shoulder this thing alone." I express. "You got to let us help."

"How?" Dean asks. "Do you really think that a little heart-to-heart, some sharing and caring is gonna change anything? Somehow... heal me? I'm not talking about a bad day here."

"I know that." I say softly.

"The things that I saw... there aren't words. There is no forgetting. There's no making it better. Because it is right here..." Dean taps at his temple. "Forever." He shrugs. "You guys wouldn't understand. And I could never make you understand. So, I am sorry."

Dean doesn't say anything else. He tends to the fussing infant in his arms, but that's it. He's silent the rest of the way to the Impala.
