It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester -- Samhain
~*****~
Back at the high school, we set to looking for evidence. Luckily, Don was no where to be found. "So Tracy used the kiln to burn the bone, what's the big deal?"
"Dean, that hex bag turned up in our room not after we talked to Tracy..." Sam trails off as I root through the desk drawers.
"After we talked to the teacher." Dean nods.
"Where's your lockpick, Sam." I hum as I grasp onto a small padlock. I flinch backwards as Sam holds a hammer to my face. "Or that. Thanks." I chuckle and crack the lock off. I tug open the drawer and grimace at the plate of bones. "Oh, my god. These are all from children."
"I'm guessing he's not saving them for the dog." Dean comments.
"C'mon, We need to hurry, he might be sacrificing someone right now." I urge.

We managed to get to Don's house just in time to save Tracy. With Don dead on the ground, we free Tracy. "Thank you, he was gonna kill me! That sick son of a bitch!" Tracy hisses. "I mean, did you see what he was doing? Did you hear him?! How sloppy his incantation was? My brother always was a little dim." With a few Latin words, Sam, Dean, and I all hit the ground, groaning in pain. "He was gonna make me the final sacrifice. His idea. But now, that honor goes to him. Our master has returned. This spell work's a two-man job, you understand? So, for six hundred years, I had to deal with that pompous son of a bitch. Planning, preparing -- unbearable. The whole time I wanted to rip his face off. And... You get him with a gun. Oh, I love that." I kick at the ground, trying to distract myself from the pain lancing through my body. I tried keeping my eyes open, trying to keep the nasty little witch in my sight. "You know, back in the day, this was the one night you kept your children inside. Well, tonight, you'll all see what Halloween really is." Tracy began reciting the rest of the incantation. I managed to roll onto my stomach and slip my hand into Don's blood, and smearing over my face.
"What-- what are you doing?" Dean groans as Sam mimics the action.
"Just shut up and follow our lead." Sam snaps as I smear blood onto Dean's face. I set my head onto the ground and feign death as Samhain is released from Hell, possessing Don's body. There's a sick crack after Tracy and Samhain exchange a few words. He walks right over us, not bothering to check if we're alive.
"What the hell was that?" Dean asks quietly after Samhain leaves the room.
"Halloween lore. People used to wear masks to hide from him, so, I give it a shot." I mention.
"You gave it a shot?" Dean echoes.
"It worked, didn't it?" I retort. "C'mon." I groan as I sit up and rip a part of my shirt off to clean my face.
"So how are we gonna find this mook?" Dean asks as we step outside.
"Where would you go to raise all the dark forces of the night?" Sam asks.
"A cemetery." Dean answers.
I nod and get into the Impala. "So, this demon's pretty powerful." Sam mentions from the backseat.
I snort. "Yeah, that's putting it lightly."
Sam sucks in a breath. "It might take more than the usual weapons."
Dean and I exchange worried glances. "Sam, no." Dean says firmly. "You're not using your psychic whatever."
"But--"
"Don't even think about it! Ruby's knife is enough." Dean snaps.
"Why?"
"Well, because the angel said so, for one." Dean states.
"I thought you said they were a bunch of fanatics." Sam retorts.
"Well, they happen to be right about this."
"I don't know, Dean. It doesn't seem like they're right about much." Sam says.
"Well, forget the angels, you said yourself, these powers-- it's like playing with fire." Dean explains. He grabs Ruby's knife and holds it into the backseat. "Please."
Sam doesn't say anything else. I share another worried glance with Dean and exhale softly.

There's only one crypt that has the screaming echoing out from it. We run towards it; guns drawn. "Help them!" Sam shouts at us.
"Dude, you're not going off alone!" I snap back.
"Just do it!" Sam exclaims before running around the crypt. Dean and I share irritated expressions.
"Stand back, stand back!" Dean orders as I lift my leg upwards. All the teens shuffle backwards, and I kick-- cracking the gate off its hinges. "Come on--"
"Let's go! Move it!" I shout.
The slabs in the crypt are all shaking violently until they pop from their spots, and bodies start crawling outwards. "Dude," Dean chimes as I shuffle off the gun bag. "Zombies."
"Aw, hell yeah." I retort and toss him a stake.
"Bring it on, stinky." Dean jeers.
We take out the two shufflers out when another appears. Dean goes to kill it, but it disappears from sight. My body cracks against the wall with a wave of its arms. "Zombie-Ghost orgy, huh?" I groan. "I'm torching the place."
"You all right?" Dean asks as he helps me stand.
"Yeah, yeah-- grab the gas." I snap.
We torch the crypt before running off to find Sam. When we do, he's using his powers to kill Samhain. Blood is dribbling down his lip as the demon falls dead. We just stare at him as he finally takes notice to us. I grab Dean's hand and pull him away.

The next morning, Dean and I take the time to go sit in the park, just enjoying each other's presence. "Jesus--" Dean flinches in his seat.
"Seriously? Didn't I say to get a bell, or something?" I ask irritably as I peer over at Cas.
"Let me guess, you're here for the, I told you so?" Dean mentions after relaxing in his seat.
"No," Cas shakes his head.
"Well, good, cause we're really not interested." Dean says.
"I am not here to judge you, Dean." Cas sighs.
"Then why are you here?" Dean asks.
Cas gazes at the children playing on the playground for a moment. "Our orders--"
"Yeah, you know, I've had about enough of these orders of yours." Dean cuts him off.
"Our orders... were not to stop the summoning of Samhain. They were to do whatever you told us to do." Cas explains.
"Your orders were to follow our orders?" Dean asks.
"It was a test. To see how you would perform under... battlefield conditions, you might say." Cas says.
I snort. "It was a witch... not the Tet offensive." I mention.
Cas smiles. "So, we failed your test, huh?" Dean asks. "I get it. But you know what? If you were to waive that-- that magic time-traveling wand of yours, and we had to do it all over again, I'd make the same call..." Cas doesn't say anything. "'Cause, see, I don't know what's gonna happen when these seals are broken. Hell, I don't know what's gonna happen tomorrow. But what I do know is-- is that this here-- these kids, the swings, the trees, all of it-- is still here because of my brother, Lottie, and me." Dean states firmly.
"You two misunderstand me." Cas says finally. "I'm not like you think. I was praying you would choose to save the town."
"You... were?" I ask.
"These people-- they're all our father's creations. They're works of art. And yet... even though you stopped Samhain, the seal was broken, and we are one step closer to hell on Earth for all creation. And that's not an expression, you two. It's literal. You of all people should... appreciate what that means. I'll tell you something, if you promise not to tell another soul."
"Okay?" Dean raises a brow.
"I'm not, uh... a hammer, as you say. I have questions. I... I have doubts. I don't know what is right and what is wrong anymore... and whether you passed or failed here. But, in the coming months, you will have more decisions to make. I don't envy the weight that's on your shoulders, Dean." Cas says as he pinpoints his gaze onto him. "I truly don't."
With the soft fluttering noise, Cas is gone again, leaving us to our silence. I lean against Dean's shoulder again, and relax.
It's quiet for a long moment before I turn to Dean. "I'm worried about Sam..."
"I know." Dean sighs. "I am too."
"I mean... it feels like Sam's using his powers every chance he gets. Dean, what if there's more to it than he's telling us? I mean... what if it's not just practice?" I ask nervously.
Dean raises a brow for a moment. "I don't know... What do you think is going on?"
I chew on my lip. "D'you think he's getting addicted to his powers?"
Dean shakes his head quickly. "No-- No way. It's just-- that bitch Ruby has to be manipulating him somehow."
I keep chewing on my lip, and go silent.
