The after party was meant for the people who helped in the preparations for the Christmas program but generally, everyone who attended the program was invited. That explained why the place was packed. I was so glad that Daphne and I had made up. I stole a glance at her as she was socialising. I preferred sitting down watching people socialising and just having fun. I opened the Kindle app on my phone and started reading.

"Hey", Alfie said as he slid in the seat next to me.

I ignored him and concentrated on the book I was reading.

"Hey", Alfie said waving his hand in front of me.

"You can obviously see that I'm busy", I said.

'And you can obviously see that I want to talk to you", Alfie said, snatching my phone from my hand.

"I'm not in the mood", I said, snatching my phone from him but failing.

He gave me a you-know-I've-won look.

"Fine", I said.

"You did a great job with Stephanie. I was so amazed. I thought she would freak out and run off the stage", Alfie told me.

"Thanks but I really didn't do anything. It was..." I tried to explain but Alfie cut me off.

"Would you like to dance?" Alfie asked.

"No", I answered.

"Why?" Alfie asked.

"I hate dancing", I replied.

"Just one dance", Alfie said.

"Fine" I said finally giving in.

At that moment, the DJ started playing a really sow song and many people got off the stage. It was just Alfie and I. Just the two of us. Suddenly, I became self-conscious. What if I I slipped and fell down? What if I embarrassed myself? I guess Alfie noticed this because he gave my hand an encouraging squeeze and we went on stage.

Alfie took my hand in his and wrapped his hands around my waist.

"Just follow my lead'", Alfie said when he noticed my nervousness.

With Alfie by my side, I didn't worry much. I didn't even notice the crowd that had gathered around us until we finished dancing. There were cheers and shouts as soon as we finished dancing. Alfie led me away to the seats.

"See? That wasn't so bad", Alfie told me.

"Yeah. I guess", I said.

Alfie introduced me to some of his friends and we spent the rest of the time chatting and getting to know each other better.
