Ch. 30
We get off the plane and go directly to the hotel that we'll be staying at. I'm excited to see his parents again and his brother of course. Braxton has assured me that I don't have to be nervous about asking his mother to help me pick a wedding dress, but I still have reservations. I don't want her to feel obligated. However, I sincerely would like her with me.
As soon as we open the door to our hotel room, Braxton's phone rings. "Papa." He answers, happily.
He rolls his eyes and nods. "We'll meet you in the lobby." He replies, hanging up. "I hope you don't mind. Papa is anxious to see what Alix has been up to." He explains, apologetically. I see the flash of excitement in his eyes, he wants to see his family.
I shake my head. "Not at all. I'm sure you're just as interested as he is." I smile, knowingly. "Let me freshen up really quick." I say, going to the bathroom. I use the toilet and wash my hands thinking about the Greco family business.
Braxton has been talking a lot about his brother lately. It seem's Alix had massive plans for his takeover of Greco International Shipping. He's already expanded his fathers company after taking over less than 6 months ago and by the looks of it he's not stopping. I just don't understand how he does it all. He has five ports in Europe and has the New York yard he just took over, not to mention he just bought another here in Georgia. From what Braxton has told me its a huge deal, with plans to expand even more. I see the awe in his expression watching him read the market pages seeing G.S.I stock rise to unprecedented levels.
"Ready." I call out and Braxton and I head towards the door.
We meet his parents in the lobby, his mother looks so happy to see us. I embrace her and Cairo and we walk out the front door to a waiting car.
"I'm like a little kid." Cairo states, excitedly as the car pulls away.
"He's doing a great job and making you very rich. Who wouldn't be ecstatic about that." Braxton smirks.
Cairo scoff's. "I'm rich enough. I just want to see him succeed. He takes out a magazine from inside his suit jacket and unfolds it. Look here." He says, pointing to the cover. "International trade, skyrocketing!"
Braxton reads the caption out loud, "Investors trading in foreign markets is at a record high, all because of the spectacular growth of GSI. A U.S. broker credits." Braxton whistles, impressed.
"I knew he was smart and gifted but his tenaciously surprises even me. Do you know how many attempts I've made trying to expand in the U.S.?" He shakes his head, smirking.
Braxton nods. "I remember quite a few. That's how you introduced me to Peter." He turns to me. "Peter was giving him pointers on how to navigate the U.S. market and blur some lines, so to speak." He winks, mischievously.
"Red tape and getting away with what is barley legal was always my Grandfathers forte." I smile, thinking of him.
"He was a very shrewd businessman." Cairo, comments. "Alix absorbed everything he said and apparently has run with it. A second American port in 6 months. Its unheard of." He shakes his head in awe.
Alexia smiles. "I've always knew he would do great things." Realizing what she just said she adds, strongly. "That both my boys would do great things."
Braxton rolls his eyes, "Nice try, mother."
"I meant it, Braxton. I was blessed with two such smart capable children, truly. I couldn't be more proud." Alexia states, patting his knee.
Braxton leans over to whisper in my ear. "I'll be her favorite soon."
I giggle at his smug expression. "Think so?" I ask, quietly.
He nods. "Absolutely."
The car pulls into a paved road leading to a large shipping yard with workers waving us through. We finally reach a a building with a new G.S.I sign above it in no nonsense lettering.
We walk through the doors of the building and no one is around. Braxton takes my hand as he leads the way through an empty reception area towards heavy wood doors. He knocks once and lets himself in, I hear Alexia mutter under her breath about Alix's gift that apparently she didn't get to gift-wrap because Cairo wouldn't let her.
I notice a beautiful woman walk towards us looking amused. "Hello, I'm Braxton." He says, introducing himself.
"Hi, Sam." She replies, simply.
"Samantha." I hear Alix correct from behind his desk.
She rolls her eyes and smiles at me. "Hi." She says, holding out her hand.
I smile back at her. "Hello, I'm Charlie."
"Charlotte." Braxton argues, smirking.
She notices the similarities in the brothers and laughs. "Nice to meet you, Charlie." She states, smugly.
I like her immediately. "You too, Sam." I reply, winking.
"Where are-" Sam starts to ask, but looks to the door hearing Alexia and Cairo arguing.
"What happened?" Alix whispers to Braxton coming to stand next to Sam.
"Mom got you something and dad refused to let her wrap it." He shrugs.
Sam shakes her head and chuckles. "Are all the men in your family control freaks?" She asks, Alix.
Braxton glances at Alix, shocked by Sam's question yet amused.
"Yes." I answer for them, earning a big smile from Sam.
Still arguing, Alexia moves in front of Alix gushing. "My handsome baby. I've missed seeing your face."
"Hello, I'm Cairo. My wife, Alexia." Cairo says, introducing them both to Sam.
"Very nice to meet you." she replies, still watching Alexia loving on Alix. She shakes her head and bumps her shoulder into Braxton. "I guess we know who the favorite is." She whispers. Making me cover my mouth to smother a laugh, if only she knew the half of it.
He nods. "Always." He replies, annoyed.
"I do not have favorites." She argues, turning to glare at the two of them.
"Okay, enough then. I want to see the plans." Cairo states, rubbing his hands together like a greedy toddler.
The men walk to desk and I watch Braxton turn to make sure I'm okay with him leaving. I smile at his thoughtfulness and follow Sam who its leading us to a seating area within the office.
"Can I get you anything to drink?" She asks.
"I'm fine thank you." I say and Alexia shakes her head no.
"So, when is the wedding?" She asks me curiously.
"A little over 2 months." I answer felling the butterflies come to life in my stomach.
"That's exciting. Congratulations. Marrying a, Greco." She whistles. "You're very brave." She smirks, jokingly.
"Braxton and Alix are very different. Braxton is better marriage material than Alix. She'll do fine with him. He's ready to
settle down and make babies." Alexia replies, smiling at me making my cheeks turn red.
Sam nods. "Yeah, I don't see Alix stopping to have a life outside of work. They are definitely polar opposites, if they didn't look so much alike I'd demand a blood test." She states, eying the three men suspiciously.
I cover my mouth suppressing a laugh and Alexia giggles. "My Alix has always been a hard worker, he doesn't know how to put anything else first. Not like Braxton, Braxton knows what is important in life." She boosts, the love for her sons clear in her voice.
I watch Braxton, confusing him for Alix a few times. I notice that Braxton and his father are deep in discussion while Alix is focused on Sam. She seems to be holding his attention a lot. I grin thinking that he might have a crush on her, awe. Poor Sam wont know what hit her.
I know Alix didn't want this complication in his life. After his statements in Greece about Braxton and I in love, I'm sure he's barely treading water. I watch them as they make eye contact and realize that Alix is absolutely drowning. There is no hope for him, I smile at the thought. I look back at Sam, she's cool confident, really funny and nice. He couldn't have chosen better. Of course this is all speculation, but there is something more. I can sense it.
