Passing

The Hackett's were dead. Kaitlyn had no choice but to shoot Caleb. She felt no remorse after he killed Dylan in front of her. It may have not been his fault, but she was just pissed. She was out of it and wasn't thinking when she shot that silver bullet. She couldn't handle watching her best friend die, and man would she have a story to tell to the others when they got to the lodge. She stood above the corpse of the Hackett kid just standing there for a minute, thinking, before walking off. She ended up sitting next to Dylan's corpse. She couldn't help but stare at his stomach which was absolutely mauled and torn. She heard a few footsteps but didn't bother to look at who it was. They were chatting until they saw Kaitlyn sitting there next to her dead, comedic, friend. They sat down next to her and one of them put their hand on her back.

After a moment, she understood it was Abigail and Emma. "It's going to be okay.." Emma said and traced circles along Kaitlyn's shoulder blades. Abigail stared at Dylan's body for a moment before looking away. She may have no knew him well but he was still her friend nonetheless. "What do we tell everyone else?" Kaitlyn mutters and puts her head in her hands, wiping her face while she did said action.

"I-.." Abigail starts. She's quiet for a moment but tries to change the subject. "Let's just Wiat for everyone to get here." As if on cue, the lodge door was heard opening, and a shout from a woman was heard. Abigail and Emma get up to go check. Once they saw who it was, they ran towards them. Kaitlyn slowly got up and hesitantly walked away from her friend. She looked toward the door to see the two hugging Ryan, who seemed happy. "What's Mr Loner happy about?" Kaitlyn asks and leans against the door frame. "Well one, the curse is over." The woman in a dress says and looks at her, smiling. A cop walks in with his arms crossed and lingers just a bit away from the two.

"Did anybody die? Or do we not know yet?" He asks and looks around. "Ah.." Abigail scratches her neck. Ryan tightens his grip on the gun, "Who died?" Kaitlyn taps the wall. "Dylan's dead. Kitchen." She states and moves aside from the door as Ryan quickly makes his way over to check the scene. Kaitlyn looks behind her as he throws the gun to the ground and crouches over the dead body. The guy who he had the hots for didn't make it through the night. She heard him whispering a few things but didn't understand from the distance she was away from him. She looks away for a moment to look at the door, and when she looks back her heart feels like it's breaking even more. Ryan is cradling the man's dead body, he's still whispering incoherent words. Kaitlyn thought she even saw a tear slide down his face. Surprisingly everyone was too shocked to cry, until the shock disappeared from Ryan and turned into despair realizing everything that happened. He already lost Kailey, then Chris, then Caleb, and now Dylan. Kaitlyn was surprised barely anybody else died, but then again, Jacob or Nick could still be dead.

After a few minutes she sighed, she couldn't stand the sight any longer, "Ryan-" Ryan instantly told her off, a loud 'Shut up' is what he said. She backed off and left the kitchen, giving him time. She was equally upset, she just couldn't express it, she was filled with too much adrenaline at the moment and she knew it would be rid of later. She knew she would breakdown soon, she probably would when she would get home. IF she would even be able to get home freely. She didn't even think about the cops until the cop mentioned them. He said they were on their way, but he also said he didn't even call them. The Hackett's were dead as well, nobody called them. Jacob and Nick surely couldn't of.

Speaking of the two, after a minute or a few, they entered the lodge, they looked like absolute shit. And that's exactly Kaitlyns comment to them. Jacob responded with a 'You too' while Nick merely shrugged and nodded. A few questions went around about the police and if anyone called them, to which there was a conclusion, nobody called. So how did the police know? The office phone shouldn't even work. Kaitlyn got up from the table she was sitting at with the group and walked up the stairs. Abigail asked where she was going and Kaitlyn told her, she didn't come with. Kaitlyn made it too the office and decided to check around, she looked at the desk and saw the phone was off the stand. She was about to pick it up before she noticed the bloody prints and blood dripping onto the floor. She backed up before looking around. Dylan and Ryan said the power was cut earlier, so nobody could get a call out, so how did it work? She was almost jump scared by the figure in the doorway, and when she looked to see who it was, there was nobody there.

She knew it was stupid to think of such a thing, but she thought it was Dylan. She honestly thought Dylan was somehow able to call the cops. Not while he was in the kitchen, but after he died in the kitchen. She walked out the office to see Ryan finally returned out of the kitchen and he was messing with a phone. It was unlocked and from her view she could see pictures of what happened last night, atleast a few scratches from a building.

"Whatcha got there?" She asked once she made it down the stairs. He jumped and turned towards her. He first apologized for his outburst but Kaitlyn pushed it away, understanding that it was for a reason. "It's Dylan's phone." He muttered and showed her the pictures. She was about to say something when sirens were heard. The cops name was apparently 'Travis' and he was a Hackett. Although he seemed different from them. She also found out the woman from earlier was Laura. Her boyfriend, Max, was unaccounted for though. Police burst through the door and Travis started trying to negotiate with them.

Even so, the counselors had ended up in jail. It took a long while, and maybe three court cases, but after a few months, the counselors were freed. And they had Ryan to thank for that, as he was the one that sent in the evidence to the podcast he listened too.

They were all at Emma's house, jamming out to music and drinking a few beers. Kaitlyn sat in the corner of the room with her drink in hand, just watching everyone. She still couldn't prevent the thoughts that slipped in her mind about Dylan, she kept telling herself she could've saved him, and she knows she could have. But it was too late. He was gone. A hand touched her shoulder making her turn to the person who touched her, it was Ryan. He took a seat next to her and took his earbuds out of his ears. "It's not going to get easier." He chuckles lightly, although there was no humor in his voice." Kaitlyn nods and stares at the table for a moment.

"I miss him more than you can imagine. Probably as much as you and anybody else." Kaitlyn looks at him as she gives him a small smile. "I'm going to miss those childish butt jokes." She sighs and then snickers a bit afterwards. "I wasn't even able to give him my number." Ryan says but then pulls out a phone. "You have that?" Kaitlyn looks at the device. "The police allowed me to keep it." He turned Dylan's phone on and looked as if he was doing something. He then showed her a contact that was probably added just now. She smiled looking at it, "He would've been so happy." She grins a bit wider.

Dylan smiles as he reads the contact name. Even if nobody could see him, he appreciated the effort they tried to give. His passing had more of a toll on people than he honestly thought. He looked at the two who were starting to feel more comfortable with each other about the topic. Even if they couldn't see Dylan, he was smiling like hell. He felt like he won with his flirting game a while ago. And he did. Ryan placed the phone on the table in front of him with the contact still up on the phone. He got Ryan's number. The two got up to get drinks, leaving the phone on the table, and Dylan to himself. He tapped the screen and after a moment, a little message popped up.
