Chapter 7

Wine? Why wine?

I couldn't figure that out. And I had plenty time for that while sitting next to unconscious Micah for half of the day.
I bet death of that District 5 girl brought a lot of fun to the Capitol. At least they won't attack us for a bit.

"V-Violet."
Micah started mumbling before fully opening his eyes.
"Micah! Are you okay?"
"My head hurts." Replies.
Right, coma butterflies couse headaches. How can I help him?
I try to look for something in my backpack but there was nothing there except buns and water.
"You should drink some water."
I give him the bottle and help sit down. He seems to wake up more as he drinks.
"What happened?" He asks.
"Coma butterflies."
"The what?"
"Those blue butterflies near the waterfall. They couse their victim go to sleep."
"I didn't know." Micah replies guilty.
"It's okay, they live only in District 5."
We spent a minute in silence when I give him a bun.
"Where did you get it from?"
"Waterfall 9." I reply.
"What about your bow? Where did you get it from?"
"Waterfall number two."
"Did you pass through any other?" I ask.
"Yeah, the third one has cables that eletrcue people like that guy from 8. The fourth one has water inside of the cave and some fish and the first one has a wine river."

Wine river. That explains drunk careers. Capitol must be sick for letting kids drink, especially 14 year olds.
"What about you?" He asks.
"Six has gasoline, twelve has caves."
"So we have wine, weapons, eletrucion, fish, coma butterflies, gasoline, bread and caves." "How does it makes sense?"
"It does."
"How?"
I was suprised that he didn't figure that out.
"Each waterfall is a different District. One products wine, two weapons, three technology, five has coma butterflies, four fish, six gasoline like in transport, nine bread and twelve caves."
"That makes sense. You're pretty smart." He smiles.
"Yeah, whatever." I try to hide a smile.
"So, what happened while I was out?" He asks.
"I found you and brought you here. Other than that, the girl from five died."
"Twelve left." Micah said.

Twelve tributes alive.
Twelve dead.
Half of the tributes that came here are now dead.

"So what now?" He asks.
"I don't know. We can see what other waterfalls have, plus I could really use a weapon."
"Sounds good, let's go."
"Wait, aren't you supposed to rest? Your head hurts."
"It's not that bad, we can go."

...

We go outside, we walk for couple of minutes. In complete silence, our relationship didn't feel like back in the Capitol. Now we're being watched.
"Micah?"
"Yeah?"
I wasn't sure what to ask, I just didn't like the silence.
"Tell me, do you have any dreams?"
"Huh?"
"Anything that you would like to do, even if it's not possible?"
He thinks for a second and then answers.
"See the mountains in District 2."
"Really?"
"Yeah, I heard that they're pretty but travelling through Districts is illegal."
Unfortunately it is. I would love to travel through Districts, explore each of them.
"Maybe as a victor you would be able to see them." I say.
"I doubt."

When the sun starts going down, we see the waterfall number seven. It's right next to a jungle.
"A jungle, I wonder what's in there." I say.
"Better check it in the morning." He says.

We go into to the cave of the waterfall which is filled with leafs and wood. There was also an axe in the tree.
"We shouldn't leave it here." I say.
"But we don't know how to use it so we don't need it." Micah replies.
"True, let's destroy it."
He looks at me and I point my head and the cameras, making him realise that it will entertain the viewers.
"Alright, what do suggest?"
"Do you have any torches?"
Micah pulls out a box of those out of his pocket.
I take one and light up a small fire, then I start melting the axe.
"If anyone came here with using an axe as their only skill then they're pretty unlucky." Micah stated.
"It's the Hunger Games. If you're unlucky then you die." I reply.

The day ended with no deaths.

...

Next morning we began to explore the jungle. A place like that was really pretty. I was looking up the whole time, just in case any tribute is hiding on the tree.
Then I saw a dark skinned girl on the tree. She had number 11 written on her back, I could see that she was sleeping. She didn't have any weapons, I didn't tell Micah about her. We just passed her by without saying anything.

"Look! Number 8!" Micah points out.
We ran up there to see bunch of blankets in the cave.
"Useless! How can we use it here if it's hot all the time?" I say annoyed.
"I don't know, maybe they left it as a killing method?"
"How are you gonna kill someone with a blanket?"
"I don't know, chuck them?"
I roll my eyes. If the head gamemaker thought that leaving bunch of blankets for children fighting to death is going to be useful or interesting then he is wrong.
The head gamemakers had been changing a lot through the years. Sometimes the victors were becoming the gamemakers.
Last four games were made by Alan Sherwood. He likes to leave random stuff on the arena and see how the tributes use it. Two years ago a tribute was setting people on fire with a torch because that was the only thing in the Cornucopia.

We moved from the waterfall number 8 and saw the one numbered 11.
This time I wasn't disappointed.
