Chapter 4
The interviews.
Maybe even the worse than the parade.
For two hours the stylists had been dressing me up, doing my hair and make up.
While they were doing that, I saw the careers on their interviews.
Lena had a shiny white dress with bunch of glitter on it and her body. She kept smiling and saying that she is was inspired by Sasha Lopez the victor from 200th games.
Sasha was the youngest tribute ever to win the games because she was just 12 years old. She was from District 2 and after her games tributes from that District felt very motivated to be like her. From that moment on there were many twelve year olds foolishly volunteering for the games, even after Sasha's death.
Lena volunteered at age of thirteen instead of twelve because she wanted to take part in a Quter Quell just like Sasha.
"You look pretty." Micah walked in after the stylist finally let me breathe.
I saw myself in the mirror.
I had a black and purple dress with golden details. My hair was let down and had some curls that I didn't have before.
"Thanks."
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm great." I lied.
"Hey, it's okay to be scared in a situation like this."
Micah came closer to me.
"I'm not scared."
I don't know why I tried to deny it. I couldn't let myself be scared, fear could kill me.
"Whatever you say but I can still give you a hug if you want."
Without saying a word I went into his arms and hided my face in his blue suit.
For a minute I felt like my sister was still alive. Like she was there to protect me to tell me that everything is okay. How before my first reaping she was convincing me that I'll be alright.
"Violet, it's time!" Someone told me.
"Good luck." Micah smiled.
"Now time for the female tribute from District 6! Young but brave...Violet!!"
I walked on the stage with a fake smile. I got greeted by Romeo who was interviewing tributes, it's his frist time to do something like that.
"Hello, Violet! You look stunning!"
"Better, tell me something that I don't know." I replied.
He started laughing and the crowd cheered.
"Alright, tell me how did you manage to score that nine?"
"Just did what I do the best."
"Which is?"
"Amaze everyone by my skills."
He again laughed. He seems to like my confidence.
"But for serious know. Can you tell us about that someone who volunteered for you."
I got froze by that question for a second. This can ruin my appearance of a strong, confident girl. If I talk about it I'll cry.
"I can't."
"Why?"
"I have every right not to want to talk about this." I explained.
It seemed like an awkward situation for him and everyone. I basically refused to answer his question.
"Well, umm what was skill that amazed everyone?" He decided to change the topic.
"Knife throwing." I answered.
"Where did you learn that?"
"You can call it a some sort of hobby."
My interview ended I immediately got my shoes off.
I didn't even got to see Micah after I walked off because he immediately had to be ready to go on the stage.
"Did I do horrible?" I asked Damian.
"It wasn't horrible. It was unusual."
"Pfft," I rolled my eyes.
"Hey, hey but that's important too! This way they will remember you and you will get sponsors." He explained.
He wasn't wrong. Sponsors are important and they are going to remember me from now on, in bad or good way.
I then sat on the couch and saw Micah's interview.
"Micah, your brother won the Hunger Games. How do you feel about that?"
"I'm very proud of him and very grateful that he saved my life by volunteering for me back then."
"That's so sweet! Are you and him close?"
"We are despite him being busy mentoring other tributes for Hunger Games each year, we try to spend a lot of time together."
"Alright and tell me, what skill of yours you would like to talk with us about?"
"Well, I would like to thank to my District partner; Violet for teaching me how to light up a fire. It's an important skill that I wouldn't know without her."
"That's so sweet, Micah."
He came to us after his interview, true his went much better than mine. I felt kinda happy that he mentioned me.
"You're welcome." I smirked to him.
He laughed and then sat on the couch next to me to watch other interviews.
I found out that Sabrina from nine was attacked by her aggressive father when she was younger and that's where her scars are from. Her father was executed by the peacekeepers after he killed someone.
The strong guy's from 10 name is Brick and he is eight teen years old.
And the girl from District 12 volunteered for her sister now and in the past their older sister volunteered for her twin sister when she was twelve. Such a big family and so much pain.
...
When the interviews ended, I went to my room and put on some comfy pyjamas. However, I can't sleep because of the fact that tomorrow are the games.
I go to the living room and meet with Micah.
"Hey, Micah."
"Hey."
"Look, I need to tell you something."
I needed to tell him that before I die and I don't know if I will be able to talk to him again.
"Yes?"
"I'm sorry for being rude to you when we first met. I hated you without knowing you and without realizing that you also didn't have easy in life especially when you had to watch your brother die in the arena."
"Hey, it's okay. I'm not mad at you." He smiled.
Silently I moved into Micah arms. Tears started going down my face but he didn't say anything. He just patted my hair without a word.
I never wanted to be here. I never wanted to be like this. I just want to go back when my sister was alive. When I didn't want to die.
