Chapter 3

"The easy part is over. Now you gotta train for the games, make sure you don't waste those three days." Damian explains.

The arenas are getting wilder each year. Literally anything can happen on one and we gotta be prepared.
"Don't ignore the survival skills, they're important. Oh and watch out for careers."

Careers.
Just the word makes my heart beat faster.
They are the reason why my sister died. Those ruthless monsters who kill for fun.

I have to kill them. That thought. I can't let them win. They can't.

"Violet, are you okay?" Micah asked.
"Yeah." I reply and leave the table.

...

The next day we go to the training centre. I get a silver suit with number 6 on my chest.
I finally see all the tributes for real standing next to me. Twenty four random kids who once got to escape this nightmare. We were so naive thinking that we won't have to go through this.

I spot the careers. Cassidy was pretty tall for her age, she had long dark hair and shiny yellow eyes.
I can see blond haired guy from one and a guy with messy brown hair from District two.
Lena was a thirteen year old girl from District two. She was short and thin. Her long red hair reached her butt.
Then there were District four tributes. A sixteen year old female tribute with curly black hair. Along with a seventeen year old male tribute with hair in a small ponytail.

We go to different corners of the training centre. I look at the bag with throwing knives and slowly take one. It's shiny, I have never seen such a great build weapon. I don't remember when was the last time when I used a unused knife.

I threw it and hit the head of the doll. I throw three more and don't miss.
I smile when I see that and make sure that the gamemakers saw that.

They did.

Next day, I walk around and see the girl with blind eye from District nine. I hear the boy from her District calling her name, Sabrina.
Sabrina looked like sixteen year old girl, she had wavy light hair. She had a small scar on her lip. I wonder what happened to her.

I see District ten strong guy, throwing an axe with no problem.
Then I spot the girl that volunteered for her sister from District twelve. A small fifteen year old female, with beautiful light brown hair and big blue eyes.

"Hey, Violet." Micah walks up to me.
"Can you teach me how to light up a fire?" He asks.
"Yeah."
We go to the survival centre and I show him carefully how to light up a fire. He then repeats my moves.
"Wow, you light me up." He jokes.
I did my best not to laugh but I can't help a smile.
"Can you show me how you shoot?"
"Why, you can throw knives?"
"I know, I just want to see you doing it."

Micah walks up and takes the bow and is ready to shot. We can see the careers staring at him.
He shots an arrow but misses. The careers laugh and the gamemakers look away.
"You still can try again." I tell him.
"They won't see it."
"Their loss."
He shots an arrow again, this time lands right in the heart.

...

I was waiting for my turn to the performance. All the other tributes were next to me.
On my left there's Micah and on my right there's male tribute from District 5.
I look at him and I figured that he is eighteen years old.
He had really pale skin and was very thin. You could see his bones and veins on his body. The boy's hair was almost white and barely visible. He looked sick, everything about him was a sign of that. Especially the fact that he was coughing a lot.

When District five boy went to preform, I knew that soon it will be my turn. I started thinking about everything, what should I show them?
I will throw knives couse that's what I do the best.

"Goodluck." Micah told me as I walked away.

"Violet Berry, District 5." I introduced myself.
The gamemakers were looking at me and watching my every step.
I took the throwing knives and threw one right in the head of the doll. I threw five more and didn't miss once.

I got an applause from the gamemakers and then left.

...

Later the same day we got to know our scores.
"What did you preform?" Damian asked.
"I just shot some arrows." Micah replied.
"And how did it go?"
"I missed once at the end."
"It's okay, happens everyone."
Micah then forced a smile.
"What about you, Violet?"
"I threw knives. They gave me an applause at the end."
"That's great! Now let's see the scores."

The TV started showing the tributes and their scores.

Cassidy from 1 scored a 10,
District 1 boy scored a 9
Lena from 2 scored a 9,
District 2 boy scored a 10,
District 4 girl scored a 10,
District 4 boy scored a 9,
District 5 boy scored a 4,

I scored a 9 and Micah an 8,

Then there was Sabrina with a score of 6, District 10 boy with 9, District 12 girl with 7

I was so happy of my score. It was really high and I didn't expect it.
"Congratulations, you two." Damian said.
"Congrats to you, Violet. You have one of the best scores." Micah told me.
"Yeah, thanks."

I was proud of myself and happy because of the comments but I couldn't get my thoughts of the fact,

The actual Hunger Games are near
