Tuppence a Bag

"Feed the Birds, tuppence a bag."

Seventeen-year-old Ally Rain opened her mailbox in frenzy excitement; she couldn't wait any longer. She had written to Walt Disney World three months ago, awaiting their answer and hopefully a prize! She had written a beautiful letter about how her family had to quickly move due to being kicked out of their very home, her father losing his job and how low on money they had. Since all her their trouble, they had found a way to live and her parents were so amazed on how calm their daughter stayed. She had a secret! She found that by watching a Disney movie would keep her safe and make her hope will come soon. She wrote to Disney hoping and praying that they would provide some help to her family. Maybe they'll take her whole family to Disneyworld! Oh what she would kill to go to Disneyworld. Her friend Mary stood beside her as she looked inside the mailbox for the letter.

Ally took hold of the mail while she push her long ginger hair away from her face. She quickly looked over as she flips from one mail to the other. "Junk. Junk. Bill. Bill. A letter from grandma."

"I think you should look at it." Mary said over Ally's shoulder gazing at the letter.

Ally smiled. "If I don't find what I'm looking for then I'll see what grandma wrote later. Probably wishing me good luck on my first day of school." She read the mail again. "Bill. Bill. Junk. Junk. Bill again. A letter from Disney World. Well that's it. The letter didn't come today. Let's see what grandma wrote." Ally walked to her house with her friend in wide eyed.

Mary stop her in her tracks. "Wait! Did you say A letter from Disneyworld?"

Ally held up the mail. "Yes I did and I said it didn't came-" She gasp and looked at the mail once more. "Oh my gosh! It's here! It finally came!" She ran inside the house and into her room. She was so excited she almost rip the letter in her grasp.

"Okay, okay okay. Breath." Ally told herself as she sat on her bed. Mary sat next to her.

"Well? Are you going to look at it or open it?" Mary ask waiting to see what the letter looked like as well. Being a huge Disney fan like Ally she couldn't hold back her excitement as well, but she wore it calmly than Ally.

In tears, Ally spoke. "It's just my family been through a lot this year and now I can't believe it's happening! I'm going to Disneyworld and all my pain from the past will melt away. I'm just so happy for getting a letter at all!" She looked at her dear friend. "Thank you for being there for me. You are a great and kind friend anyone can ask for."

Tears formed in Mary's eyes as she hugged her friend.

It had to be at least some time before the two finally came to be and Ally nervously tare open the letter. As she pulled out the paper from inside, her joy was so high that her hands shook from nerves. But her smile disappeared as she pulled out a small piece of blue paper with a smiling mouse and characters. It was a postcard from Disney World wishing to see her there soon. She turns the card around. There was nothing written on the back but an autograph from Mickey Mouse. She looked around hoping to find tickets but to no avail.

Mary took the postcard and sigh. "Ally, you can't always depend on Disney to make your dream come true. Even a little magic from the Disney spirit needs time. You know that that's not what Disney really is." She stops and glazed at her friend who was in tears.

"I can't believe it." it was all Ally could choke out.

"Oh Ally." Mary took her friend's hand before she quickly took it away.

Through tears Ally finally spoke, "Disney doesn't exist. I pour my heart and soul into that letter and Disney took it as a joke. Disney ruined my life! I will never believe in Disney again." With that, through a river of tears, Ally grasp the post card, from Mary, and rip it.

Through shock, Mary couldn't move as she watch her friend tore up the only thing that made her happy in life. Not satisfied, Ally took the rip pieces, went into the kitchen, grab a lighter, storm outside and burn the last pieces.

Watching the burning flames, Ally took her last stand. "Disney will never hurt me ever again." She walked back to the house, leaving her friend to watch her childhood memories burn in the flames. That was the day Ally stop believing in Disney, hope for her family and above all, her friend.

.................................................

Four months later, Ally's parents gathered by the Christmas tree opening their few presents. Her parents gleam as they open their gifts, which both only had one to give. Ally watch them tear open with happiness as she slumped in her chair texting on her phone. She could care less about Christmas and its joy. Why should there be joy and light? All her joy was ripped away by a careless letter four months ago, which made Ally's heart grew dark and bitter.

As her father pick up the wrapping paper, her mother saw something unusual in the tree. As she drew closer to it, the less that her nerves went away. She found a red box inside the tree. As she picked it up, she found it's wrapping unusual as well. She looked at the tag.

"Ally." Her mother turned to her daughter.

Ally didn't look up from her phone. "What?"

"I found one last present inside the tree. It's for you." She handed it to her.

Ally, while looking up from her phone, took the gift. She found it's wrapping heartbreaking and painful. "Mom, I swear if you are-"

"I didn't put that gift in the tree. You know we don't have wrapping like that and that's not my handwriting."

Ally looked at the tag. 'To Ally from Santa.' How childish, but she even found it more childish from the box wrapping. The Disney characters on it seem to glare at her like she committed a sin.

She, disgustingly open the gift. As she gazed inside, her heart drop. Her vision began to blur as tears flow. Her parents watch as she couldn't help the tears.

"What was it?" Her mother asked.

"It's...It..." Ally struggled to find the right words. She wasn't crying with sorrow nor pain but with joy. "It's tickets to Disney!" She finally said as she pulled out three tickets to Walt Disney World. "I must be dreaming!" She continued to cry again as she parents looked at the tickets, making sure their daughter wasn't pulling their legs.

As they began to celebrate and while she wipes her tears away, Ally found a note inside the box. She pulled it out and read it.

'You may have stop believing in Disney, but I hope this small tuppence a bag will help you believe again.'

She cried again as she read the last word. A capital M marked the end of the sentence of the note.
