Family Means
"And family means nobody gets left behind."
Conner Mason, his older brother Zachary and his parents are out on a family adventure. Conner didn't care where he went, he just loved being with family.
He looked at his right and saw his brother gazing at the window, fascinated at the outside wonder. Conner smiled and looked ahead and saw his mother and father in the front seats. His mother was driving while his father looked at his phone for direction.
"Now, up head, turn right, dear." Father turned around. "It's been awhile now but I bet you're wondering where we are going?"
Zack turned his gaze away from the window. "Duh! Is it Disneyworld?" His eyes lit up and so did Conner's.
They heard their mother laugh, "Ha, I wish." She smiles. "Not today, but maybe someday."
"Who cares?" Conner began. "At least we are together and I wouldn't have it any other way."
Conner heard his brother laugh and playfully pushed his brother's shoulder. "That's my little bro for ya, always the family guy." He rufles his brother's hair.
"Their is nothing wrong with family." Conner told her brother while fixing his hair. "Some people don't spend time with their families or don't have any connection to them." He gazed down at his fingers. "That's why I love our family so much and how we get along so well."
Father nods at every word Conner spoke. "Some people are not as fortunate as others are but Conner, you are right. We do get along and love doing things together. That is why I made 'Ohana means Family' our family motto."
Conner breathed. "What's the motto with you?" That made every one in the car bust out in a fit of laughter.
Zack contuied, "I thought our motto was hakuna matata?"
"Zack, stop living in the past." Conner exploded in a fit of laughter.
But even the most joyest occasions have their rainy days.
Just as Conner thought this day couldn't get any better, his life was shattered before him. All he could see was brillent lights, shattering glass, broken metal, and blood. He soon found him self lying on the cold hard ground, clunching his side. He was to week to get up as his life was draining away from him.
When his world became a endless darkness of deep eternal oblivion, he witness flashing, colorful lights.
............
Pain. That was the first thing Conner felt when he awoke. Cold. That was next thing he felt that pulled him out from the fogged pit of subconscious. Something cold and wet laid on top of his head that seemed to ease his headache. He couldn't open his eyes yet his mind and ears were awake.
Silence.
He heard nothing as Conner always wakes to the sound of white noice and above all, turn down the AC. He need to open his eyes and see where he is.
Craking one eye open, Conner found himself in a white hospital room. (This isn't my room), Conner thought. I must be dreaming. But the pain in his head told him otherwised.
That's when his memories kicked in.
NO!
The car accident. His parents. His brother-ZACK! Where is Zack?
Slowly waking his acking bones, Conner moved out of hospital room and strolled over to the Gust Care, whitch happen to be in front of his room.
"How can I help, sir?" The woman, behind the desk ask. She glaced at the boy and blinked. "Oh, you're awake!"
Conner shook his head. "I need anwsers. What happen happen to my parentes? Where is my brother? His name is Zachary Mason." He breathed in between words.
The woman's lifeful eyes, grew sorrow as she spoke. "I'm afried that you're parents didn't make it in the car accident." Conner gasps, his eyes misty. She contuied. "You brother on the other hand-" She cut herself short. "I'm sorry. That was bad of me." She cleared her throat. "Let me take you to him."
As Conner followed the woman, Conner couldn't help think of the worst. (Is he dead? Is he in a coma? Did he brack any bones, lose a limp? Oh my gosh, what's going to happen to us?)
He was scared but he couldn't hide it. His nerves took the best of him in situation like this. When they apreched the open door, tears flowed down the side of his face like a water fall.
"I'll give you two some privacy." The woman said as she walked away.
Conner breathed in deeply and walked in. He behold a teen in a wheelchair, gazing out the window. The teen wore two leg cast, a neck brase and a back brase. His left arm was missing while his right seems to be fine. The only thing in his body that was not broken.
The boy in the wheelchair heard Conner come in and turns his head towards the door. "Conner!?"
Tears flowed out of the boy as he ran up to greet his brother. The two welcome each other with a strong hug.
"I missed you." Zack finally spoke in a calm voice as he place his right hand on Conner's head.
"I missed you, too."
After some time the two broke up and were able to speak again. Conner was the first.
"What happen after the crash?"
Zack was silent for a moment, remembering the day that changed their lives forever.
"Well, the inpack killed our parents, left me broken and you," His eyes fouced on his brother. "Unconscious for four days." He smiled. "You're lucky that you were unconscious and brused while I was left with every bone in my body broken, but my sprirt."
Conner lifts an eyebrow. "What? You are happy? How can you be happy when you lost your arm and our parents?"
Zack gazed in his little brother's eyes. "It could have been a lot worst, Conner. A lot worst. I could be dead." He gazed out the window and contuied to smile. "I thank God that I'm alive and that is it. I'm happy to be alive and to have you here, alive and well."
While his brother spoke, Conner found his vision blurry again as tears flown down his cheeks. "I thought...I thought.." Conner stuggles to find the words but his brother finished them.
"You thought you find me, a teen who broke everthing in his body, lost his arm and his family, all depressed?" He laughs. "Ha! Nope. Just some happy teen who is lucky to be alive and still have hope."
Conner laughs as well while contuies to laughs. "You really are opticmic!" But his smile disapperes. "But who's gonna take care of us now?"
"We're not intirally orphaned, Aunt Annie and Uncle Jasper will be taking care of us." Zack tood Conner quickly.
"What? But-but they live in Florida near-"
"Walt Disney World."
Conner gasps as a new hope came alive. He hugged his brother once again as he moaned in pain.
"Oops, sorry."
"It's alright." Zack breaths, "As long as we have each other, we're family and family means noboby gets left behind, or-"
"Or forgotten." Conner finished with the biggest grin on his face.
FINALLY! This took some time to write! This story is based on loosely true events of a co-worker I know, last year. She was hit by a car in early August of 2016. She has a broken neck, broken legs, six broken rips, a broken back, broken pelvis AND lost her right arm; but her left arm is the only thing not broken.
And she's 22 years old.
So, when we were about to visit her, I expected to see a very depressed young woman in a wheelchair. But, what I got was a happy go lucky woman, in a wheelchair, who couldn't be happier with her gifts we gave her!
Truly amazing!
Even though the experience she had gone through, she is still happy and living! She maybe ruined for life but she's still here.
Truly amazing of the ways of God and the spirit of Disney. It brings people together and makes them stay the same through life.
That is why I made this story and was inspired by the events I witness.
I have seen her a couple of times after the accident, like on Christmas Eve when she was out of the wheelchair and a two weeks ago when He had a prostitute arm.
She is a symbol of hope.
You can read more about her in "The World of Forgotten Disney" chapter under "Truly Amazing."
Thanks for the reads and be on the look out for more!
