"Yoon..." Jiminie whimpered, his voice barely audible as I stroked my fingers through his hair. His little shoulders would shake every so often but then he would cry out a broken sob, not sure what to do with himself. "... Hurts... Too much..."
The painkillers I had taken were starting to work but my Jiminie was still in agony. I could feel the sweat rolling off him, his hair was soaked as all he did was lay there. All he kept saying was that he couldn't move, that it was agony, that his legs were numb.
"I-I'm here, j-j-jagi," I whispered, not knowing how to help him. I kept trying to coax him into taking the tablets, Tae gave me, but he gagged every time I pressed them to his lips. "Breathe, j-just try to b-breathe th-through the -p-pain... Stay-s-stay awake, baby."
"Hyung?" Tae called, coming over from the bunk area and sitting by the door, staying in the middle between us and Kook. Thick tears were rolling down his cheeks, showing just how scared he was even though, I knew he was trying to hide it. "Why is there shouting outside?"
"I-I don't kn-know..." I frowned, straining my ears to see what he meant. Sure enough, I heard what sounded like multiple voices being raised, voices I didn't recognise, voices that didn't belong to my brothers. "S-stay here... Hyung w-w-will sort it..."
"Taehyungah?" A voice came from the door, making me jump. A deep, firm voice that would have come across as threatening if the man hadn't knelt down in front of my dongsaeng with concerned eyes.
"H-hyung?" Taehyung acknowledged the man before I even could. But after a moment, I vaguely recognised him as one of the actors my dongsaeng had worked with last year. "Please help us! I don't know what to do!"
"Um..." The man turned, looking around at us. I wracked my brain to try and remember his name, but gave up when nothing came to me and my head started spinning again. "Right... How?... What should... What do you want me to do?"
"Yoon..." Jiminie cried again, pulling my attention away from the semi-stranger. "Please..."
"I know, b-baby... G-give me a mom-ment," I sighed, wiping the tears from his cheeks as softly as I could. With this man here, I looked back up, ready to ask for help now. "W-w-we need p-pain-killers... H-he's in to-t-t-too much p-pain and he, he, he c-couldn't take the, the tablets!"
"Wait!" Tae pulled his head up from his hands, eyes wide and I could almost see the lightbulb above him. "Th-there's morphine... Top cupboard, maybe that could help."
"Give me a moment," The man said when I nodded at them, walking behind me.
"We've got m-m-meds, b-baby..." I mumbled to Jiminie, a little bit of relief flowing through me.
"Will this help?" The man asked, coming back and handing me a little bottle. Giving the label a quick scan, having to squint slightly to stop the letters from dancing around, I read oral morphine.
Giving a small nod of thanks, I wasted no time opening the bottle.
"What about Kook?" Tae asked, reminding me that the maknae was still suffering.
"G-go..." I said, pulling the lid off the bottle after struggling with the safety-lock for a moment. "I c-can handle th-this."
They both nodded and headed over to the bunks as I turned my attention back to my boyfriend.
Leaning over slightly, I saw his small eyes scrunched up, his featured screwed up in pain - it made my chest hurt, seeing him like this.
"Ji-Chim..." I spoke, trying to keep my voice as stable as I could.
I needed him to hear me, understand me, and that wasn't going to happen if I kept stuttering all over the place.
"Chim, pain-k-killers, baby," I said, speaking slowly as I gently placed my hand under his head. "You just have... t-to drink, okay? Gonna l-lift your head, slowly..."
Cautiously lifting my boy's head, I filled the cap with some of the liquid and pressed it to his lips, hoping he would understand.
"Th-that's it, baby," I smiled down as he swallowed the liquid, grimacing at the taste. I just went back to stroking his hair, just trying to calm him now since he had worked himself up into a state. "G-give it t-time... To work, now. It'll make the p-pain go..."
"Yoon... Can't move..." Jiminie whined, gripping my hand slightly, causing me to sigh. "Scared..."
"I know, b-baby..." I said, knowing he was terrified right now, but there wasn't anything I could do by myself until Hyung came back. "Y-you're gonna be oh-kay... I promise... We'll g-get out of h-h-here soon."
As the minutes passed, I made sure to keep comforting my boy as it seemed no one was in a rush to help. Luckily, he had calmed down though. The meds seemed to be working quickly, which was relieving, but he was also starting to fall asleep against me.
"Hyung?" Tae's voice returned, him walking over as Jungkook left the caravan. I gave the maknae a small frown before looking up at the boy and the man, still not remembering his name. "Jiminah?"
"I-I-I think it w-worked," I said, softly smiling down at Jiminie who seemed a little bit more relaxed now.
"Then we need to get out of here, now," The man said in a firm voice, crouching down next to us. I frowned as he geared himself up to take over, not willing to take orders from this guy. "Let's get him up."
"He can't walk," I told him, glaring slightly and slapping his hand away before he could pull Jimin up from my lap. "Seokjin needs to get i-in here a-an-and help."
"Hyung's busy," Tae said, though that only made my frustration grow. "I trust Hyungsik hyung. Let him help, please, Yoongi hyung."
I narrowed my eyes at the man, Hyungsik. That was his name. I didn't trust him, there was something off about him that I couldn't put my finger on but... If Tae was telling me that he was okay with the man helping Jimin, I guess I didn't have a choice. I had to trust Tae.
"Carefully," I gave in, knowing I wouldn't be able to help my boy by myself, anyway. "Slowly."
Hyungsik nodded but, again, I slapped his hands away when he reached for my boyfriend. He wasn't going anywhere near him until I had spoken.
"Ji-Jimin..." I mumbled, stroking my boy's hair out of his face. His eyes were softly closing but I knew he was still awake. "Y-you're gonna be, be, be okay. We're gonna get you out of here, get y-you help. Oh-kay, baby? Just trust me, I love you a-and you're gonna be okay."
Hyungsik tried again, but I stopped him, waiting for an answer. We weren't moving him until he was ready, I didn't want to hurt my boy more.
"Yoonie..." Jiminie finally spoke, his voice soft and light as a feather. "'m scared."
"I know y-you are, b-baby," I nodded, petting his hair still. I flashed my eyes over to Tae, who was waiting as well and decided to hand control over to him. "Tae's g-gonna help, Tae's here. Tr-trust Tae, yeah?"
"Come on, Chimmy," Tae walked over, crouching beside me. "Let's get you off the floor now, we'll get you comfortable. You'll be okay, Tiny. Come on, chingu."
"Y-you need to be c-c-careful," I said, watching as the two gently lifted Jimin from the floor.
"We've got him, hyung," Tae reassured, though it didn't really work. "You okay getting up?"
"'m fine," I said, slowly pushing myself to my feet, having to pause to let the dizziness subside before following them out onto the road.
Instantly, I had to cover my eyes to shelter them from the blinding sun, having to take a moment to adjust before looking around again. My brothers stood around me, accompanied by two others.
Squinting my eyes, I recognised the strangers in a heartbeat. Our old mate from when we performed music, Choi Minho and Hoseok's sister herself, stood in front of us. Both seemed like completely different people from those I once knew.
The only one I couldn't see was Hoseok... Until Jin hyung stepped back, revealing him lying on the ground with Dawon by his side.
My heart leapt into my throat, seeing my dongsaeng unconscious on the road.
"Dawon will help him," Our leader's voice came from beside me, his comforting than on my shoulder. "You know she will. Let's get you sitting down, hyung, with Minie."
I gave a very soft nod, my neck starting to hurt as I let the man guide me over to where Tae was with Jiminie.
Slowly, I lowered myself down, kneeling next to where my boyfriend was laying. Tae had taken his jacket off and placed it under his head, holding his hand gently.
Jiminie had his eyes closed, but not comfortably, though the rest of his expression was somewhat relaxed. I realised the sun was right above us, holding my hand above his eyes as I understood it was too bright for him.
Leaning over slightly to shelter him, I softly ran my fingers through his hair again, smiling slightly when I heard the small sigh leave his lips.
"You're g-gonna be oh-kay, jagi," I whispered, caressing his cheekbone just to see him relax more to my touch. "I promise."
"We're going to drive you all back," A strong voice called, bringing my attention away from Jiminie and over to Dawon.
She was different, the way she held herself, the way she spoke - she seemed fearless, indestructible, a force to be reckoned with.
"We'll help you collect all your gear and then help you into the truck," She spoke, her strict voice causing me to frown slightly.
I could sense just how awkward Namjoon was feeling, even though he was pretty far away from me. He was holding himself tense, uncomfortably. Something was wrong about the way he stood back, he may have well been kneeling to the woman and I didn't like it. It was... Just wrong.
"I'm not leaving any of you behind, just ignore these dumbarses. They answer to me and only me," Dawon continued, placing a gun in her belt as she walked over to, what I assumed was her truck. "Come on. Let's get somewhere safe."
"Yoongi hyung," Namjoon's voice rang, causing me to groan and roll over on the bed, I had been offered by Dawon. "You sleeping?"
"Not now, I'm not..." I complained, slowly sitting myself up as he let himself into the little hospital room.
Of all the places Dawon could have made a base, a life - it was in a hospital. We thought the caravan was a miracle, well, this was bigger!
"This is Kim Woosung, hyung," Namjoon said, a man behind him giving me a little wave. He was rather tall, kind enough I guess, but looked small behind the leader. No backbone, I thought. "He's a doctor, he's been with Minie all morning."
"Is he okay?" I asked, sitting up straight at the mention of my boyfriend's name, but letting out a low groan as the abrupt movement made the walls start to wobble around me.
"He's fine, hyung," Namjoon nodded, though I waited for the so-called doctor's answer. "Seokjin hyung's with him."
"But is he okay?" I pressed, still keeping my eyes on this Woosung as he walked over and sat on the edge of my bed.
"Jimin's sedated at the moment, also on very strong pain medication. He has an acute spinal injury. Without proper equipment and tests, I can't tell you how severe it is but he's responding well to the meds I've got him on," The man said, clearly knowing what he was talking about so I let myself trust him. "In my opinion, I think he'll be okay. He just needs time to heal. There's a lot of bruising on his back, so it's clear it was a traumatic blow that caused the injury.
I've also got him on a stronger AED, just short term but to keep his seizures to a minimum while he recovers. You'll have to fill me in on the extent of his epilepsy but I made a decision from my observations. I'll go back every so often but as long as someone is with him, I have no worries."
"You know your shit," I scoffed, bending my brow slightly as the man let out a little chuckle before nodding.
"After my father pushing me through medical school and me getting my degree at the age of twenty-two, I should hope I do at twenty-five," Woosung smiled, pulling a bag up onto his lap before rummaging through it. "I also hope that means you trust me enough to check you over for concussion. I heard you hit your head pretty hard. I'd like to help if I can."
"Is Hobi okay?" I asked with a frown. My brother kept flashing into my mind, only able to think the worse as no one was telling me anything.
"Hoseok?" Woosung frowned, only continuing when Namjoon nodded. "He's in a coma. He suffered a severe head injury... Again, without tests, I don't know how bad it is but... Since he hasn't regained consciousness, I think it is safe to assume there is brain damage. Other than keep him stable, there's nothing I can do until he wakes, unfortunately... I can help you, though. Please?"
-
I let out a long sigh, folding the corner of the page I was on and placing my book by my side, moving over to sit on the bed when I heard Jiminie shuffle.
"Morning, jagi," I smiled as his eyes slowly opened, his bright orbs gleaming up at me.
I could see the cogs turning in his head, his brow furrowing for a moment while he remembered where he was. I knew he had woken for the first time when Jin hyung sat with him but, this was the first time I had seen him awake since we arrived at the hospital, a few days ago.
"Yoonie?"
"Yeah, baby," I nodded, stroking his cheekbone as his expression softened. I watched as he reached his arms over, feeling as sad as he tried to turn into my side but whined as he couldn't. "No, baby. Let me cuddle you, stay still, stay comfy."
I laid down next to him, gently snuggling up to his side in time to see him looking at me with watery eyes, his plump lips starting to tremble.
"Not comfy," Jiminie said, his voice quiet and feeble. I just sighed again, taking his tiny hand in mine, and gave him a sympathetic smile. "Why can't I move?"
"We crashed the van, baby," I said, kissing his forehead, not minding having to tell him again. I knew his head was all over the place, plus he was on so many different drugs, I wouldn't have been surprised if he was unable to tell me his name. "I know Jin hyung told you that. You've hurt your back, but you'll be okay. I made a promise, didn't I?"
"Yeah," He nodded softly, closing his eyes for a moment before looking back at me. "Head feels funny."
"I know, jagi," I nodded in understanding, brushing his fringe out of his face before cupping his cheek in my hand. "It's the painkillers, they're strong. Why don't we have a nap, hmm?"
"Maybe..." Jiminie nodded, laying his head against me.
"Let's sleep, baby," I mumbled, cuddling him close and shutting my eyes, deciding it would be nice to rest as well. "I won't go anywhere, just sleep it off."
I'm not sure how long I slept but I woke to Tae walking into the brightly sun-lit room, talking cheerily.
"Chim, you're awake!"
"Yeah," I heard my boy's voice ring, light and giggly. It made me chuckle as I let my eyes open. "Can't say the same about Yoongs, though."
"I'm awake, cheeky," I chuckled, nestling my head against his shoulder. "Just resting my eyes."
"Sure, hyung," Tae laughed, seeing through my lie. "Anyway, Dawon sent me. She said the chef is making meals, would you two want anything?"
"There's a chef?" Jimin asked before I could speak, sounding amazed at the fact. I chuckled again, smiling down at him and taking his hand in mine. "This place really is heaven!"
"You okay, Chim?" Tae asked, giving the boy a confused smirk as he started to play with my fingers.
"He's on very strong painkillers," I smiled, using my other hand to rake through his hair.
"I am?" He asked, looking up at me with glistening eyes and a little pout that made me melt.
"Yes, honey," I sighed softly, kissing his forehead. The nap may not have cleared his head but at least he was in brighter spirits now.
"How are you feeling, Chim?" Tae asked as I set myself up a bit, his tone lowering ever so slightly. Just enough for me to notice, not Jiminie.
The boy's smile wasn't fooling him either. Though we were making a point of telling Jiminie he would be okay, we were informed by Woosung in private. We knew that if Jimin didn't regain the feeling in his legs soon, the likelihood that he never would was going to be high.
"I'm on a cloud," Jiminie giggled, a melodic little sound that made my heart flutter.
"You really are on the good stuff, ain't ya?" Tae laughed again as Jimin nestled against me, his hair tickling my chin as I kissed the top of his head.
"You want something to eat, babe?" I asked, stroking my thumb over his knuckles.
I watched as he pursed his lips and furrowed his brow, before shaking his head.
"Nah," He said with a little shrug. "I'm okay."
"But you just got all excited," Tae pressed, finding the boy amusing.
"Not hungry," Jimin just mumbled, fiddling with my fingers again, causing me to chuckle again.
"Weirdo," I sighed, ruffling his hair before turning to face Tae. "I'm good, Tae. Wouldn't mind a bottle of water if that's possible, though."
"Sure, hyung," Tae nodded, pushing himself up from the armchair he had made himself comfortable in.
"Any update on Hobi?" I asked, making sure I kept a casual tone so as to not get Jimin's attention. I could feel his head resting against my chest sleepily, so I could get away with asking without him asking any questions.
We decided not to tell Jiminie how ill Hobi was. We knew he would panic and it would have made him ill as well, we needed him to focus on healing first.
"He's still, um..." Tae replied, pausing by the foot of our bed, flashing me a sad look. "Sleeping."
I just sighed and gave a soft nod, making a mental note to go and see my brother when Jiminie was sleeping, properly.
Tae flashed me a small smile which I returned, but both fell when he patted Jiminie's legs but got no reaction from him. I was about to speak up and tell him not to worry, but a knock on the door cut me off.
"Taehyungie hyung," A young boy at the age of about sixteen peeped his head around the door, talking with a deep voice that clashed with his youthful face. There was something off with his words but, I soon realised there was a thick accent lying underneath them. "Your oatmeal's ready."
"Aw, yeah!" Tae exclaimed, his happy expression bouncing back as he clapped his hands. "Thanks, Felix! I'll be there in a second."
The young boy nodded, leaving the room and shutting the door behind himself.
"You sure you two don't want anything?" Tae asked, turning back to us. "There's nothing spectacular but, still, we didn't have to catch and kill it!"
Jiminie shook his head against me, mumbling something under his breath as he started to fall asleep again.
"We're good, Tae," I smiled at the boy, lowering my tone so Jiminie could rest. "Go and see your new friend and enjoy your oatmeal. Don't forget my water, though."
-
"What's wrong, baby?" I mumbled, being pulled out of my sleep as I felt someone pushing on my arm. It didn't take my tired mind to realise it was Jiminie but I was still confused, as the room was dark. It must have been rather late at night, from the lack of noise and light around us.
"Jiminie..." I whispered, letting my eyes open more as the shoving got a bit rougher. Waking up more, I saw my boy in the middle of a seizure. "Oh, alright, darling. Give me a minute..."
Quickly sitting myself up, I carefully rolled Jiminie onto his side. He let out a small choked cough but seemed to be calming rather quickly, so I didn't let myself panic. Though, shock ran through me - well, it was more surprise I think - when I felt his feet kicking against my legs.
Woosung had lowered his epilepsy meds again, not long ago because it was dangerous to have it so high for a long time. This wasn't the first convulsive seizure he had since then, not even the worst, but this was the first time the convulsions had reached his legs. Woosung told us it was expected as he healed but...
"Okay, baby," I whispered in his ear, playing with his hair as he calmed. "You're alright, take your time. You're doing so well, jagi."
Not even a minute passed before he fell limp against me, taking gentle gasps as he let his eyes drift around the room, making me wonder if I had slept through most of it. If I had, then we were lucky it was just a small one.
"Okay, now?" I gave a soft chuckle a few minutes later, when he finally looked up, locking eyes with me.
"Hmm," Jiminie nodded, the tiniest of nods but it was enough to make me smile at him.
"Stop waking me up like that," I laughed lightly, glad that he smiled at the joke. It was always an iffy choice to use humour, he could have just as easily been offended.
"'m sorry," He mumbled, rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand before looking back at me. "...You okay?"
"You kicked me," I scoffed, still smirking as I stroked his hair out of his face, though his expression dropped almost instantly.
"'m sorry..." He pouted, sounding sincere and guilty, though his tone was still quiet and sleepy.
"No, baby," I shook my head, still giving him a warm smile as I waited for the words to click for him. Waited for him to realise that he had moved his legs. "You kicked me."
"Wh-what?" He frowned and I just nodded, giving him a little cuddle as he worked it out. "But... Wait, I can..."
"We'll talk to Woosung tomorrow, baby," I sighed, giving him a little squeeze and kissing the top of his head. "I love you so much."
"I can feel them, Yoonie," Jiminie whispered, his voice hitching slightly as he held my hands tight in his. I just smiled, nuzzling against his hair. "I can feel my legs again."
"I know, baby," I said, rubbing over his knuckles. "I'm so happy for you, I'm so proud of you... Sleep now, we'll talk to the doc in the morning."
And that's what we did. Woosung seemed actually amazed when we spoke to him, and he put the idea into Jiminie's head about trying to walk again.
That's how, a day later, I found myself holding my boyfriend up as he shuffled through his first few steps in four days.
"Jimin, you are doing fantastic!" The doctor praised as Jimin moved his feet a few more inches forwards again.
I held my hands secure under his arms, sure not to let him fall but he was doing so well by himself, despite clutching onto me as if his life depended on it.
"I'm so proud of you, jagi," I smiled, moving one hand to wipe his sweat-soaked fringe out of his eyes, before holding his sides again. He looked so exhausted, sweat dripping down his flushed little face but he was so determined. "I can't believe how strong you are. You are doing so well!"
Jiminie sucked in a deep breath, closing his eyes tight before nodding. I think it was mostly to himself as he shuffled his feet beneath him again, only moving a few centimetres more but it was incredibly impressive.
"Chim, you're doing amazing," Tae called from where he was sitting with Namjoon, on our bed. Jiminie just laid his head against my shoulder, breathing heavily as he paused for a moment. "Do you know that?"
Jiminie shook his head, though I wasn't sure whether it was in disagreement or to say he was finished. I flashed Woosung a concerned glance, suddenly worried if we were pressuring him too much but, the doctor just held his hand up to tell me to wait.
I didn't have to wait.
"Yoonie..." Jiminie murmured, still pressing his forehead against my shoulder, shaking his head still. "I-I'm done... It hurts."
"Okay, sweetie," I nodded, understanding. He had done so fucking well, being closer to the window now, than the bed. I gently lifted him up, easily just to get him back to the bed so he could lay back down. "Okay, you did brilliantly. I am so incredibly proud of you."
Namjoon and Tae hopped off the bed, helping Jiminie lay down as I lay by his side, dabbing the sweat away from his forehead.
"You did so well, babe," I smiled as he closed his eyes, catching his breath. "I love you so much."
"We all do, Minie," Namjoon chimed in, patting the boy's shoulder as he sat next to him. "We are so proud."
"You really are the best, Chim!" Tae added, pushing Joon out of the way to sit next to his best friend, leaving the leader to find a seat in a nearby armchair.
"Considering that your first try, Jimin, I have to say you may be the strongest person I have ever met," Woosung said with a small smile, still standing at the back of the room. I'm sure he was just saying that to encourage the boy but he wasn't wrong. Not in any way, Jimin is the strongest person I have ever met in my life. "That was so much progress you just made! I can't believe it."
"You have no idea, Woosungnim!" Tae smirked, holding Jiminie's hand as he turned towards me. "Jimin is amazing!"
"That he is," Woosung agreed, but Jimin just hid his face in the crook of my neck, still breathing heavily.
I just chuckled, wiping his brow again as he shrunk with embarrassment. He had nothing to be embarrassed about though, they were right! He was amazing!
I was just playing with his hair as a small knock rapped on the door. Hyungsik let himself in, rather abruptly which I wasn't too pleased about - though, at least he knocked.
"Sorry to interrupt," The man muttered, his voice sounding rather strained. As if he was here against his will or something. "Dawon noona's sending me on a food run, I wanted Tae to come with me."
"Me?" Tae frowned. I saw the confusion on his face as he tilted his head, causing me to shoot a questioning frown over to Namjoon. "Alright...!
"You sure you want to, Tae?" Namjoon asked, taking the words from my mouth.
The invitation just seem all too random, it made me worry a bit as I still didn't fully trust the man. I couldn't tell you why, I just got this vibe from him.
It just didn't sit well, the way he spoke as if he was in charge when he clearly wasn't. The constant glare in his eyes... The way he almost always sneered when he looked at me or my boyfriend.
I was starting to think he was homophobic, and if that was the case, I'd be putting him on his arse sooner or later.
"Yeah, why not?" Tae shrugged, smiling and pushing himself off the bed. "Well done, Chimmy! I'll see you later."
Jiminie mumbled back but cuddled up to me, obviously drained now. I just gave a soft sigh, delicately rubbing his back before looking up at the man in the doorway again, cautiously trying to sus him out - if he was up to anything.
"Stay safe, Tae," I told the boy as he was about to leave the room. He looked back at me with his typical boxy grin but I just gave him a firm nod, telling him I was being serious. "Take one of those radios, just in case anything happens."
Tae nodded back, telling me he agreed but Hyungsik patted his shoulder and almost pushed him out of the door.
"No need for that," The man grumbled, making me grit my teeth. Now I knew there was something going on. "We'll be fine."
"It's not you that I'm worried about," I said, locking eyes with Tae again, to silently tell him to remember what I said. He just gave a little nod so I turned my gaze back to Jiminie.
"Here," Woosung nudged me, handing over a glass of water before nodding to the boy falling asleep against me. "Make sure he drinks, keep him hydrated."
I nodded, giving Jiminie's shoulder a little shake to wake him up before holding the glass to him.
"If Tae's not back by sundown, I'll go to Dawon," Namjoon said, catching me off guard with his serious tone.
"I trust Hyungsik," Woosung spoke, as if to calm our worries... Not that it worked. "I honestly wouldn't worry about Taehyung. He'll be fine."
I spent the rest of that day, sitting around my room while Jiminie slept, just reading and waiting to hear that Tae was back.
I don't know how I had kept that fricking book in my hands for hours without throwing it out the window. It was just a random novel I had stolen from Namjoon, all the way back at the warehouse, and it was boring as fuck!
My eyes were starting to flutter as I found myself reading the same page over and over again, drifting off too much to finish it.
"Yoongi!" I heard my name practically being screamed down the hall until Jungkook stormed into our room. "Yoongi hyung!"
"Shush!" I scolded, shooting a glare over to him before making sure he hadn't woken Jiminie.
"Hyunh," Jungkook shook his head, lowering the volume of his voice but walking over to me, pulling the book from my hands before dragging me out of my chair. "You need to come with me."
"Why? What's wrong?" I groaned, not wanting to move but letting the kid pull me about nonetheless. It was only when I was standing that I saw the tear stains on his cheek, causing me to gulp and swallow the lump that grew in my throat. "Is it Hobi?"
"Hyung," Kook shook his head again, looking at me with his glistening doe-eyes. "There's a piano!"
"What?" I asked, honestly feeling rather breathless at the very thought of there being a piano in this ridiculously huge building. "Where?"
"I'll show you," Jungkook said, his desperate tone turning more excited as he pulled me towards the door. "Please, hyung."
"What's going on?" A small voice mumbled from behind us, causing me to sigh and pull my hand away from the maknae's grasp.
At first, I was just going to calm Jiminie down, see if he'd just go back to sleep but then I had an idea - After, music is always the best medicine.
"Jiminie," I smiled, sitting on the edge of the bed. "Kookah found a piano. Wanna come see it?"
"Yes!" Jiminie's eyes went wide, his tone light as he woke from his sleepy daze and suddenly was beaming.
"Come on, then," I grinned, motioning for Kook to bring over the wheelchair Woosung had left in the corner of the room.
Carefully we both helped the boy sit up and move into the chair, before I took the handles and pushed him as Kook led the way.
"In here," Kook said after a while of wandering the long halls, pushing open a big double door and standing aside for me to push the chair in.
"Jiminie!" Seokjin's voice came instantly and my eyes darted over to him, sat with Tae's new friend behind a giant black, glossy grand piano.
The huge instrument was so beautiful, I thought I was going to cry, until Jiminie grabbed my hand, looking up at me with equally teary eyes.
"Come on, beautiful," I smiled, sniffing down my emotional nostalgia, letting the name slip out as we went over to the eldest.
"Wanna play?" The kid sat next to Hyung, Felix, asked and I just nodded, leaving Jiminie to sit with Hyung while I took his place on the bench.
I placed my fingers on the ivory keys, feeling the breath get caught in my throat as I pressed them down and the melodic sound rang through the room.
Closing my eyes, I let my mind drift, the music taking over and the memories spinning around my head. I finally felt like I was at home, this was how things were meant to be.
This is how life was meant to feel.
This was it.
-
My fingers had been dancing over the piano keys for less than two minutes but, after going so long without the instrument, I felt like I had been sitting there for years before Jin hyung softly pulled me out of my daze.
"Didn't take him long," I let out a soft chuckle as I looked up, seeing my boyfriend asleep again already.
"I can take him back," Hyung suggested as he brushed Jiminie's fringe out of his face, but I just shook my head, reluctantly pulling away from the best friend I had just been reunited with.
"Nah, it's okay," I smiled, deciding it was best if I took Jiminie back to our room. "Thank you, Kook... Seriously."
"It's okay, hyung," Jungkook smiled back at me, nodding his head, knowing how much the piano was going to mean to me. "Get Jiminssi back to bed, I'm sorry I woke him."
I just gave the boy a soft nod, brushing him off as I pushed Jimin's chair back to our room. He slept the whole way back and didn't even stir when I gently lifted him up from the wheelchair, laid him down on our bed and tucked him in.
Giving a small sigh, I went back to my chair, just watching Jiminie sleep for a while. He looked so peaceful when he slept, as he always has done; but for some reason, there was something so calming about watching him. Seeing my Jiminie safe and comfortable made me feel safe and comfortable.
I knew he'd be awake soon though, his pain meds were close to wearing off now so he'd soon stop feeling so peaceful.
"Hyung," A static voice came over my radio, that was sitting on the set of drawers next to the bed. "Yoongi."
"What, Joon?" I sighed my answer, keeping my eyes on my boy, though my focus was now on the leader's reply. "What's wrong?"
"I need you to come to my room," Joon replied, his voice flat and strained. He sounded angry, or maybe sad, possibly hurt? I don't know but it made dread shoot through my heart. "Now, hyung. Please."
"Yeah, okay, I'm coming," I quickly responded, getting back up for the second time. "Give me five, I've only just got back to my room. I'll make sure Chim's settled and I'll be there."
Placing the radio back down where it was, I took my pillow and placed it longways next to Jiminie and made sure it was propped behind him enough to keep him on his side while I was away.
He shifted slightly, leaning back as if to test it for me, before getting comfortable again. I chuckled as he nuzzled into his own pillow with a sleepy mumble, a small smile forming on his lips that became a clear indicator of a good dream.
Kissing his forehead before pulling the duvet up to his chin for him, I just smiled for a moment more and then left to find Namjoon. Though it wasn't long until my maknae was calling my name again, even more, desperate than the last time.
"Has Joon called you two, as well?" I asked with a frown as Jin hyung and Jungkook rushed up to me, following as I continued down the hall.
"Yeah, and we need to hurry," Jin hyung nodded, making me pick up my pace, as he spoke as if he knew more than I.
As we made it to the leader's room and went inside, I felt my heart leap into my throat when Hyungsik was the first person I saw before Namjoon... But no Taehyung.
"W-what's going on?" I asked, not expecting my voice to shake the way it did. "Where's Tae?"
"I think you need to ask him," Namjoon shook his head. I could see the sparkle in his eyes, tears springing up but not falling as he bit back whatever it was he was feeling.
"Where is Tae?" Jin hyung repeated my question, his voice much firmer though, almost intimidating as he stared Hyungsik down for an answer.
"I... I tried," The man shook his head and I heard the catch in his voice. I looked him up and down, seeing the bloodstains on his clothes, he had been fighting. "I did everything I could..."
My lungs closed off, my heart stopped working and all I could do was hold my breath until the man said the words I knew were already about to come.
"The dead... There were just too many, we got separated," Hyungsik continued on, his voice getting smaller and smaller with each word. "I tried to get him, I did! We were fighting for ages, there were hundreds. I just couldn't get him quick enough!"
I could feel the warmth on my cheeks, the wetness slipping down them, but I couldn't feel myself crying. My chest was starting to hurt, causing me to force myself to inhale and take in a sharp gasp as my mind translated his words into something I could actually understand.
Taehyung... Our little Taehyungie was... Dead.
"Honestly, if we had left a little bit quicker, we would have missed the herd," Hyungsik said, sniffling though no tears were to be seen. Something didn't add up. "But he said he needed to go back and get something, so we did. It was some kind of medication, I don't know. He said his mate needed it so he grabbed it."
"I told you!" I screamed, pointing my finger at the man, finally snapping out of my shocked silence. Taehyung went back for meds for Jimin, but I told Hyungsik to keep him safe! "I told you to fucking look after him! It was your job to fucking keep him safe, you bastard! What the fuck were you doing taking him out anyway? He was fucking... He... Fuck!"
"I'm sorry!" The man cried back, finally forming tears but I wasn't buying it. This man got my baby brother killed... And I don't believe he cared in the slightest. The man was an actor, from the previous world I knew that much. That doesn't mean he was a good one when it came to lying. "He was just too far away. I tried but he... He just kept screaming out for me and I was fighting those freaks but... I just wasn't quick enough!"
"Get out," Jin hyung's voice cut off his rambling, causing my breath to catch in my throat. He sounded way too calm but I saw the anger in his eyes.
"Excuse me?" Hyungsik asked, causing another beam fo anger to shoot through me.
"Get out," Hyung repeated as he stood up, walking past us to stand in front of the man.
"But, let me explain, please!" Hyungsik begged, stepping back but Hyung only closed in more. For a split second, I thought he was actually going to hit the bastard. "I really did try to help! I swear, Taehyung was begging and I was trying so hard but..."
"I said," Hyung interrupted again, raising his voice so much that I actually jumped. I saw the fear in Hyungsik's eyes as Hyung stepped even closer, sizing him up. "Get the fuck out of here! If I ever see you near one of my brothers, I will fucking kill you with my own bare hands. Get out!"
I couldn't bring myself to do anything, not when Hyungsik scurried out of the room, not when Jin hyung fell to the floor and sobbed. As Joon and Kook rushed to his side and cried with him, one thought made my head spin, causing me to feel like I was about to throw up.
All I could do was drag my feet as I stumbled out of the room. I felt like someone had chained anchors to my feet, trying to stop me from moving, escaping... But I had to. I had to tell Jimin...
It took hours, days, maybe even years but I managed to reach my room only to see my beautiful baby boy still sleeping peacefully. He was still smiling, hugging his pillow, just as I had left him. I didn't want to wake him, I didn't want to tell him. I couldn't...
It would take two words, only two small words but those two words would completely destroy him.
Carefully, I sat on the edge of the bed, tears blinding me again as I brushed my boy's fringe out of his face. He sighed contently, nestling against his pillow and I felt my heart shatter. I actually felt it crumbling into pieces, in my chest.
"Jagiya?" I found myself whispering, shaking Jiminie's shoulder, even though I just wanted to walk back out of the room and leave him with his happy dreams.
"Hmm?" Jiminie stirred, shuffling slightly. "What?"
"Jiminie, wake up, baby," I forced my voice to stay soft, warm and loving, though I was starting to feel my body freeze over. "I... I need to talk to you, babe."
"What's wrong?" He mumbled, sleepy and whiny as he blinked his eyes open. Though, he seemed wide awake when we locked gazes. "What happened?"
"Jiminie," I tried, shaking my head when my voice broke. Instead, I just lay down next to him, snaking my arms around him and crying into his shoulder.
"Jagi, what's wrong?" He asked, wrapping his arms around me which only made me cry more.
Don't say it.
"Jiminie... It's... It's... Tae."
"W-what?" Jiminie asked and I heard the instant fear in his voice, knowing I had to say it now. There was no going back. "Is he okay? Is it his asthma?"
"He..." Don't hurt him, don't say it. "Baby, he..."
Jimin pushed away from me, sitting himself up, grimacing as he used all his strength to do so. I just wiped my cheeks, though there was no point, and sat up as well.
"Jagi, Tae's..." Don't! It will kill him, you can't break him. "He didn't... He wasn't able to come back from his run... He..."
"No," Jimin cut me off. His tone was so blunt, that he didn't believe me.
"Baby, I am so sorry!" I broke when he shook his head at me, frowning deeply but his little plump lips were trembling.
"N-no..." He shook his head, violently, vigorously, probably hurting himself as he did so. I heard his breathing hitch, how he struggled to inhale.
"Jimini," I moved closer, pulling him into my arms but he shoved me back. "Jimin, I..."
"No!" Jiminie shouted, his voice becoming no more than a broken squeak.
I just pulled him back, again, ignoring the fact that he was fighting me. My hold just tightened, holding his head against my chest as he screamed.
"I..." He wailed, so loud it was deafening. "I can't... I ca... Breathe!"
There was nothing I could do. Taehyung was our baby brother but he was Jimin's world. His soulmate. Their friendship was unlike anything before, something we all thought was unbreakable, indestructible. But now... Jimin was dying inside without him.
I could only rock him in my arms, hold him and be there for him as he felt everything. I couldn't take this pain away from him, no matter how much I wanted to.
"It hurts!" Jiminie screamed again. I didn't know what to do, nothing I did would make this easier for him. "No, Yoongi, I can't! It hurts... I'm d... No! I need him, he can't! Get him back! Please! I can't breathe, Yoongi, I can't! I need him! Please, please, please. I need him!"
-
It took Jiminie four hours, four whole hours to calm down. To breathe normally and stop screaming his lungs out. And those were definitely the most emotionally draining four hours of my entire life.
Namjoon had come in about an hour before he calmed, somehow calmer than all of us. At least on the outside, though I knew he was just as much of a mess on the inside.
Jiminie was just silent now, facing away from both of us, staring at the wall. I could hear him whimper every few seconds, his painkillers wearing off and he hadn't exactly made himself comfortable.
Namjoon had radioed for Woosung to bring him some, which he did quickly. I was thankful for that, and for the fact that he left us quickly so we could have some privacy... But getting Jiminie to take the painkillers was a different story.
"Jiminie, baby," I sighed, my eyes still watery as I played with my boy's hair. His eyes were dim, the silence was deafening, and I could only focus on how his little face screwed up every so often in pain. "Don't make yourself suffer like this. I know your back's hurting, baby. I can see it in your eyes."
Woosung had told us, we needed to get Jiminie to eat something before taking the pain medication. The meds were too strong and, on an empty stomach, they would make him ill, so we were trying hard to get him to eat a biscuit... One fucking biscuit, but still he refused.
"Jimin, you need to eat," I begged, still holding the plate while fiddling with his hair, but he continued to ignore me. "Just one, so you can take your medication. Please, for me, baby. Please!"
Nothing, just silence as he kept his eyes locked on the wall, avoiding mine completely. He just looked... Empty, broken. Giving Namjoon a glance, I just shook my head, close to giving up.
"Minie," Namjoon said, kneeling down so he was at eye level with Jiminie, making me move out of the way. He was trying a firmer approach but I could feel myself growing frustrated, knowing it wouldn't work still. "Listen to me. You need to eat something to take your pills. If you don't, you're just gonna get ill. Now, come on, help us out here. Help yourself, buddy."
I just sighed, shaking my head as Jiminie didn't acknowledge him at all. He was in pain, stressed out and completely broken. Seeing him look so empty, was killing me and I couldn't handle the idea of him making himself ill.
"Right," I stood up when Jiminie let out the tiniest whimper, throwing the plate down and grabbing a bag to put the biscuits in with his pain meds. "That's enough of this shit."
"Hyung," Namjoon glared at me but I just shook my head again. We had just lost Taehyungie. I wasn't about to lose my Jiminie as well.
"No," I said, simply, though my voice was strained. I could tell. "Jimin, we're stopping this now. I will not have what happened last week, happen again... Namjoon, grab that chair."
Being as gentle as I could, I pulled Jimin into my arms, waiting for Joon to bring the wheelchair over.
"We are getting out of this room," I sighed, carefully sitting my boy in the chair, honestly surprised when he didn't fight me over practically manhandling him around.
Joon just followed me as I pushed Jiminie out of the room, down the long hallway, towards the room Kook had shown us before.
It didn't take me long to reach the waiting room, not that it would have mattered since Jimin wasn't paying any attention anyway.
I placed the chair next to the piano, letting Joon sit with Jiminie while I sat on the bench.
"If you are refusing to take your tablets," I sighed, clicking my tongue, and experimenting with the ivory keys in front of me. "I'll give you another kind of medication."
I knew Jimin would relax to the music. He may have been suffering right now but he was just like the rest of us. The one thing that drew the seven of us together, that kept us together and kept us going, no matter what - music. What Jiminie needed right now, what we all needed right now, was music.
I let my fingers dance over the keys, flicking my gaze up to Joon, who was holding Jiminie's hand and whispering quietly to him with a soft smile.
The music continued to fill the room and I watched as my boy's shoulder's relaxed, calming down to the sound. Though, after seeing this, anger filled me when I was forced to stop. The door slammed open, causing everyone to jump when Minho ran in.
"Guys!" He shouted, sounding stressed and rushed, though I wasn't really in a sympathetic mood. "You need to come with me!"
"What's happening?" Namjoon asked, turning away from Jiminie.
"Fight in the canteen," Minho said shortly, almost glaring at us but I paid no attention. "Just come and help me!"
"Where's Jin hyung?" Joon asked as I watched Jimin, but he just sat quietly, fiddling with his sleeves. "Can't he help you?"
"He's with Hoseok and Dawon," Minho shook his head, tapping his foot which kind of annoyed me. "He told everyone not to bother him."
"Go, Namjoon," I just sighed, moving from the bench to crouch next to Jiminie. I wasn't about to leave him to go and sort someone else's problems out. "We'll stay here, just go."
"Yeah, okay," Joon nodded, giving Jimin a warm smile before leaving with Minho. I just brushed my boy's fringe out of his eyes as he slowly looked at me.
"Let's play some more, hmm?" I smiled, taking his hand in mine, waiting for a response of some kind. "Wanna take those painkillers first?"
Jiminie gave me a tiny nod, barely noticeable, but I just gave him a soft smile before grabbing my bag and pulling out the biscuits and box of tablets.
"Here you go baby," I said warmly, giving them to him before moving the chair over to the piano. Jiminie took his meds just as I moved over, holding my hand out to him. "Sit on the bench with me?"
"I don't think I can..." Jiminie started but I just shushed him, taking his hands in mine, and giving him a reassuring nod. After a moment, he locked eyes with me before letting me help him stand.
"You're okay," I smiled, holding him up as he rose to his feet, moving backwards slowly so he could shuffle with me. "That's it, baby. I'm proud of you... Few more steps."
Slowly, we made it to the bench that was only a few steps away. Jiminie sat down with a thump, breathing heavily, causing me to hurry to sit next to him, supporting him with my arm around his slim waist.
"Well done," I whispered, kissing his temple as he leaned into me. He still looked sad, but not empty anymore. A tiny bit of that sparkle had returned to his glossy eyes, but I couldn't hold back my own tears when his little hands moved forwards toward the keys.
I knew Jiminie didn't really play the piano, he had only ever played around with the instrument in the past, but hearing the pretty tune his fingers were playing made my heart flutter. Alongside his playing, I continued with what I was playing before we were interrupted. Surprisingly, the two melodies fit together perfectly, blending to create one beautiful tune.
