The next day was... Eventful.
The cars lasted into the early hours of the morning but, by the sun had started to show itself, Namjoon hyung had me and Hoseok hyung out looking for somewhere safe for us to stay until we figured out a game plan.
"This is ridiculous," I huffed, watching my breath fall out of my mouth in a mist, putting my pistol back in its holster before turning to my hyungs. "We're not going to find anywhere at this rate. Not before nightfall."
We had been walking the same damn, open road for the best part of an hour and hadn't found anything but the dead. It was clear we were heading to a dead end.
"We just have to keep looking," Namjoon hyung shook his head but never turned, making sure he was always five steps ahead of me and Hobi.
"We've been walking forever!" Hoseok hyung whined, earning a second long sharp glare from Joon but his complaints were ignored. "My feet feel like they are about to fall off and I don't even know what way it is back to the cars anymore."
"It's a good job we have some sense of direction, then," I muttered, thinking I was quiet enough to get away with being cranky, though my low energy levels should have gotten me a pass anyway.
Hobi just scoffed at me, before walking ahead and continuing on protesting.
"Seriously, Namjoonah. It's freezing, the sun is setting," He said, starting to sound like a child, starting to annoy me. "We should turn back. We can survive in the cars for one night-"
"I am not putting you all at risk just because I got chilly," Namjoon hyung snapped. I saw the apologetic smile that came after the harsh words, but it meant nothing to me, much like it didn't mean much for Hoseok hyung, either.
Hoseok hyung just sighed, rolling out his shoulders as he went to walk forwards a bit more, but this time something was different. Maybe the apology was more needed than we thought.
"It is really quite cold, hyung," I decided to back up Hoseokie hyung. Call it a weakness or soft spot or whatever, I don't care. I hate it when Hobi's sad. It's just wrong. "I think we should turn back."
I heard the way Namjoon hyung cursed me under his breath but decided to let it go considering just how annoyed he looked. Even I knew when it was time to back off when it came to pissing off our leader.
"Fine..." He grumbled, turning back to us with his eyes tightly closed for a moment. "Fine, let's head back."
Though, when he finally opened his eyes and went to move - he froze entirely. Frowning, I looked over my shoulder, now understanding why his expression morphed into a mix of ever so slight fear and even more annoyance.
"For Christ's sake," I rolled my eyes at the dozen or so ugly-arse creatures traipsing over to us. They didn't even move quickly, such an inconvenience. Not even Hoseok hyung paid them hardly any attention now, and he was scared of everything!
"These bastards just won't let up, will they?" Hobi mumbled. I just scoffed, pulling the crowbar out of my bag. I kind of stole it from Yoongi hyung but... Who cares, right?
"Don't let them gang up on you," Joon hyung said as he placed his shotgun on the ground, his voice all authoritative and leader-like again. "If it gets too much, call out."
I just scoffed again, shaking my head as I stalked up to the pathetic group of dead. There wasn't even enough to get too much, I don't know why he was worried.
The heads flew back and forth, easy to take off with the tool I was using. In fact, the crowbar was proving to actually be quite effective and impressive. Seeing the body parts fly around as they would in the movies or games? It was actually fairly amusing.
But the fun soon came to an end, all the creatures now in multiple pieces on the ground. Well, it was good exercise while it lasted, I guess.
"Can we go now?" I asked as I put the crowbar back into my backpack.
"Yeah, let's go" Namjoon nodded, picking up his gun, though stopped and froze again when it seemed Hoseok hyung wasn't quite as ready to leave. He was crouched down by one of the dead, rummaging through a bag that was on its back. "Anything useful, Hobi?"
"Nah," Hoseok hyung shook his head, standing up and gesturing for us to get going. "It's empty."
"Well, let's go then," Namjoon hyung chuckled, though I must have missed the part where he pulled the stick out of his arse. "You two were the ones complaining about the cold. Let's move."
"We'll just start again, tomorrow," Hoseok hyung tried to reassure the leader but Joon just shrugged.
"Not good enough, Hope," Namjoon hyung shook his head, walking ahead of me, taking lead as we headed back. Clearly, the stick remained stuck where it was.
The road back was completely clear, not a single dead one in sight - which was good, relieving - but my God, was it cold! Fucking freezing, actually.
I don't know how long it took to get back to the cars, I just knew it was long enough for the tension from Joon hyung to turn into an awkwardness that settled between the three of us.
"Anything?" Taehyungie hyung greeted us at the end of the road, as Jin hyung lowered his gun, both leaning against one of the cars - My car.
"Nothing," Joon hyung stated bluntly, storming past them to go and disturb, who I assumed to be, Yoongi hyung and Jimin hyung. Obviously, he was in a mood again. "You two, knock it off!"
"I take it the search went south," Jin hyung asked as the couple sheepishly climbed out of the back of Hobi's car, following Joon hyung back over.
"Not south, necessarily," Hoseok hyung shrugged.
"Not north either," The words slipped from my mouth, leaving me to cringe at myself, though Tae hyung laughed. "We didn't find anywhere to stay. We're gonna have to spend the night in the cars."
"We're going to freeze to death," Yoongi hyung pointed out, sending a harsh glare over to Joon hyung, who hadn't stopped pacing.
"It wasn't his choice to stop looking before you start blame-placing," Hoseok hyung stated, firmly. "We decided to call it a day. The sun's setting and it's only getting colder. We'll be safer in the cars then if we were still out looking."
"It's okay, baby," Jimin hyung was quick to try and calm Yoongi hyung. Good, since none of us stood a chance and it looked like Yoongi hyung was about to knock Hobi out. "We'll be fine. We'll get the blankets, huddle together, and take turns keeping watch like usual."
"There's one tiny fault with that plan, Jiminie," Hobi said, his gaze dropping to the ground.
Was that guilt I heard?
Whatever it was, Yoongi hyung wasn't buying it.
"What would that be, Hoseok?"
"I didn't have time to grab any blankets before we left... After grabbing food, water, medications - clothes, blankets and pillows just didn't seem that important."
The only thing holding Yoongi hyung back was Jiminssi's hands on his shoulders. Despite the pure rage swirling around his eyes, Hyung would never push off Jiminssi.
"I'm sorry!" Hobi said, literally bowing to Yoongi hyung. This was stupid, he was right - blankets weren't important when we had to get out of there in a matter of minutes. "I just didn't have time and I didn't think. It was too chaotic."
"It's okay, hyung," I sighed, placing my hands on Hobi's shoulders, making him stand straight as I glared at Yoongi hyung for over reacting. "We'll be okay."
"We're always okay," Jiminssi reassured us, though his words were definitely meant for Yoongi hyung as he hugged him tight. "As long as we have each other, we'll be fine."
