Chapter Seven: The Aftermath
~San's POV~
Dove's cold, lifeless body lay limp in my arms, devoid of a heartbeat to call her own.
I was a fool. I never should've waited to tell her how I felt. I should've told her the day she got that damn device.
But I didn't. I let her suffer thinking nobody cared about her. Left her thinking she had to hide the truth behind a smile. God, I'm such an idiot.
"Her name was (Y/N)," said the demon. It sat in the corner of the makeshift room, showing not anger nor grief. Not anything.
"YOU!!" I screech, "THIS WAS YOU WASN'T IT?!?! ILL KILL YOU!!!!"
"What can I say," it replies simply, "a Puppet's lifespan is only so long."
"PUPPET?!" My head snaps downward to (Y/N)'s (color) soul. Low and behold, hundreds of strings threaded in and out of it, disappearing a few inches above it.
"Yes," the demon nods, "she was to me my eternal slave, until the heart issue came up. Her death was out of my hands before it ever was. So shut your yap and just get her out of here. Her soul won't replenish in this cramped space."
I feel hot blue tears blur my vision as the room spins a tad. What is this thing talking about?
"I have to get back to Puppeteering now," the demon stands and reaches its large hand into the air, "she will return shortly."
"Wait!" I cry, "IM NOT DONE WITH YOU YET!!"
But it was already gone. I sob hysterically into Dove's chest. She was so perfect, she didn't deserve to go down. Not like this.
"(Y/N)!!!!" I scream, "(Y/N)!!!! COME BACK PLEASE!!! NO NO NO (Y/N) NOOOO!"
I don't know how long I sat there, but when the tears subsided it was just barely dawn.
Numbly, I picked up her body in my arms and carried her out of the small home. But my heart felt like it had been ripped apart

And I didn't even get to say goodbye.
When the stars were visible, though, something happened. Her body turned to dust. But she was human. But the strangest thing was this: the soul turned into a small pocket watch in my palm, glowing with a (color) hue. And her name was engraved into the back in loopy lettering with the words: Wait for It.
