Chapter Five: Filling In The Blanks

~Sans' POV~

I stare at the small gadget that Dove left on the floor when she dashed out the door a few days ago. She still hasn't come back.

A note is taped to the back, with "do not open until the third day at the third hour of the evening" written on the front in loopy letters.

Today os the third day she's been gone, and it will turn three pm. in ten minutes.

All I know about this device is that it counts down by two every second. Has been since I found it.

I remember her brilliant smile, (e/c) eyes always shimmering with hope and love. Her skin was smooth as silk, and her voice was one of an angel.

All the laughs we shared, stupid jokes we told, ridiculous things we did together in the short time she stayed with Papyrus and I.

124.

I can open the letter now.

I unfold it slowly, fear creeping in and along my back. Like sins, but worse in a way.

Dear Sans,

I cannot even fathom to you how much grief this brings me to have to do this to you. You are my best friend, and I had hoped that one day we would become more. But there is no longer time for that. You might've been wondering what the device is. Well, to put it simply, it is the exact count of heartbeats I have left in life. Sad, I know, but true. If you're reading this at the time you were asked, I should have little less than seven minutes to live. You know where to find my corpse. Sans, I love you more than I could ever imagine, and I'm so so sorry I have to end what we had this way.
-I'll always be with you, (Y/N)

My breath hitches. "WHAT?!"

I run down the stairs and shoulder the door open, the heartbeat counter firmly in my bony hand. No, no this can't be real! She can't die like this, not now!

Speeding as fast as I can through Snowdin, I crash through the trees to a large tent made from pine tree logs, covered by blankets and waterproof sheets. Surrounding it is an oak wood fence with no gate. A fire remains unlit in the center of the clearing.

"(Y/N)!!!" I yell, "(Y/N)!!!"

48

I duck low to enter the large structure, but what I see shocks me. More than anything.

She.
Isn't.
Alone.
And neither am I.
