The Memories Thirty Seven - Cat Date
I looked ridiculous carrying a picnic basket in one hand, a baby bag filled with cat things slung on my shoulder, and a fat cat cradled in my arm, while the "mother" was busy taking photos of the scenic view before us, not even bothering to check if we were okay.
It's fine... Anything for you, Mia.
Winter is coming soon, so I took the chance to get Mia and Migi out of the house to enjoy the remaining days of fall. It's beautiful to imagine that the deciduous trees let go of their leaves, to let themselves breathe and recuperate until spring comes to grow new ones. I secretly hope we can be like them, let go of the negativities, recharge, and start fresh.
She only agreed to go on a picnic with me because I said I wanted to spend time with Migi, to take him outside. Besides, he's my son, too. It was cute, the way she tried to weasle her way out of this date, throwing excuses here and there, but when I said that she's denying me my rights to see my "son", and some help from her father reiterating that forgiveness is divine, she was speechless and defeated.
Still I feel grateful. Away from school, away from the pressures of life, we finally had time together. This would be our first official date.
She walked on ahead. I can't help but stare in awe, how this annoying peculiar girl changed my pespectives, my beliefs, my whole life. The way she smiled at each beautiful pictures from her polaroid made me grin like an idiot. God, I missed this.
I was surprised when she turned to me and snapped a photo. I felt my mouth hung open stupidly, almost dropping Migi, causing him to cling onto my arm. Mia laughed at us, we must have looked really stupid and hilarious. The whole fiasco caused my muscles to spasm so I settled for the spot nearby. I laid everything on the grass, and Mia came running for Migi.
"Shall we put on his harness? He might run away..."
I shook my head in disbelief. "Mia, trust him a little. He won't go running amok because he's too lazy for that."
I spread Migi's blanket and placed him there. He spun around lazily before slumping into the heap and licked his paws cutely. I sat beside him, fighting the urge to squish him because he literally was a fat ball of fur. "See what I mean? He already claimed half of the blanket," I pointed at the fat cat, flaunting a good sploot. Mia only chuckled.
Standing up to stretch my sore limbs, my eyes roamed at the breathtaking scenery, spotting a beautiful lone daisy nearby and decided to go pick it. Twirling it in my hand, I realized I didn't know what Mia's favorite flower was, or color, or food. All we did was bicker nonstop, talk about meaningful stuff, but skipped the most basic things.
Click.
I didn't notice that she followed me to take a picture. Mia smiled at me as she waited for the photo to slide out from the camera. She was stunning. Her long silky hair flowed down her shoulders, her mint-colored dress danced as the wind blew gently, her teal cardigan slipped down her shoulder, exposing her neckline and exquisitely sculpted collarbone.
Feeling overprotective, I sauntered towards her to help fix herself. Realizing we were only inches apart, she looked down at her feet to hide her blushing face, but I caught her chin to make her gaze directly into my eyes. I have rehearsed hundreds of lines to say to her, but I got lost in her eyes. Instead, I tucked her hair behind her ear and placed the daisy on it. As my fingers brushed against the exposed skin of her shoulder upon pulling the cardigan to cover her up, my heart skipped a beat, making me all flustered and bashful, but I intentionally let her witness how tremendously she affects me, in a good and innocent way.
But before I even attempt to embarrass myself by saying something cringe-worthty, I cleared my throat, "Let's go back to Migi, he might get too lonely."
Mia squirmed, finding a way to sit comfortably and not expose herself, since the dress she wore was shorter than her usual ones. I took off my plaid shirt and placed it on her lap, the gesture making her all red. I guess I do affect her as well, in a good and innocent way.
Migi sensed his mother sat nearby, so he woke from his nap, only to transfer his fluffy self onto his mother's lap. Mia absent-mindedly stroke his chubby body, and he closed his eyes again.
"Do you like it here?" I asked.
Mia nodded. "I got a lot of beautiful pictures, we can make a scrap book for it."
"Scrap book? For what?"
"Beautiful memories..." She gazed at me, wondering whether to speak about something or not, until deciding to go with it. "Uhm, Yoongi-"
I laid on the grass and closed my eyes, "It's ok. We don't have to talk about it now, we have all the time in the world for it. Right now, I just want you to breathe. Besides, we've never had quiet moments like this. We always end up arguing after every small talks."
I propped myself on my elbows as I turned sideways to glance at her.
"Let's not fight anymore, Mia."
Her eyes twinkled as she smiled at me. "Okay. I hate arguing with you, too."
~~~~^~~~~
Ten minutes later...
"I told you, we shouldn't let him chase that butterfly!" Mia angrily shouted in between punches she threw at my arms.
"Ow! What the- Can you stop hitting me? I never thought he'd climb that tree!" I took every hit patiently, but damn, the girl's too strong.
"If you listened to me, this wouldn't happen. He doesn't know how to climb down! Oh god, my baby's terrified... This is your fault, Yoongi! How could you!"
"Ow! Okay, stop!" Mia kept hitting and yanking at my shirt, making it difficult to move and speak. "You never said anything about being agile- Ow! Will you calm down?!"
Apparently, Migi was awaken from his nap by a butterfly landing on his nose. He was so into catching the flying thing, but it flew high up the tree nearby. Migi clawed his way up at incredible speed, but upon realizing he's up high, he panicked at the height, and terrified he might fall.
He tried to back up but his foot slipped, causing him to shriek loudly, his tail wrapping around the branch instinctively.
"Aaaagh!!! Migi, don't move please, Daddy will get you," Mia cooed sweetly at the cat, but turned sharply to me and hit me hard on my chest. "You better climb up there and get him down, or heavens forbid, Yoongi..."
Daddy, huh? I'll show you how DADDY I can be... You just wait...
I grabbed branches to get myself up the tree, and when Migi saw me reaching out for him, he maneuvered smoothly and crawled into my arms for safety. It wasn't too high, so there was no problem getting down with only one hand supporting me. I handed Migi to Mia, but soon as she got the cat, the branch I was holding onto snapped, causing me to fall and land hard on my back. It wasn't painful, but the idea to feign hurt instantly lit up in my mind.
Let's see if she cares for me, I thought.
"Oh my god! Yoongi!!!!"
She hurriedly ran towards me, knelt beside me, while running her hands all over my face and my torso. I grunted and curled onto my side facing away, trying so hard not to laugh.
"Oh god, Yoongi, I'm so sorry. Where does it hurt? Please tell me..."
I couldn't endure the amusement I was having so I twisted fast, catching her offguard and grabbing her shoulders. It took us some time to see how awkward our positions were.
I laid flat on my back, while Mia was on top of me, her nose only inches from mine. Blushing furiously, she panicked, and her arms that support her suddenly gave up, causing her to collapse fully on me. I could feel delicious warmth on my chest, only to realize her breasts were squished between us. To make it worse, her cardigan slipped off, dragging along one strap of her dress to hung loose on her shoulder. I closed my eyes shut, and took one deep breath.
Calm down, Yoongi. Think of something else before your dick springs to life.
She pushed herself up, turned around and started fixing her dress. I heaved a sigh of relief when I contained myself successfully.
I sat up, regretting my stupid action. "Mia? Are you okay?"
She faced me, and punched me playfully as she wiped her tears. "Don't do that again. You scared me! As if Migi's accident wasn't enough."
"Hey, don't cry. Sorry. I just wanted to know if you care about me. Sorry, Mia. Please don't cry." I reached for her and held her hand. She flinched a little, but soon relaxed.
She squeezed my hand tightly, "I do care for you. I always have."
"Nothing bad will happen. Just stay by my side. Okay? No more running, or hiding."
I pulled her closer and wrapped my arms around her. "I love you, Mia. I really do."
She buried her face on my chest and nodded.
Migi, feeling left out, snuggled up to Mia, rubbing his face against his mother's arms to tell her he wanted to be cuddled and he demanded attention. Sneaky fat cat.
We're okay now. We're good.
