My last class of the day was eternal. I was sitting in the middle of the cluster of seats ,hiding between my classmates hoping the professor didn't notice my yawns and drooping eyes. The class in itself wasn't bad and I've been learning a lot, yet the professor droned on with his monotonous voice repeating the same slide for the millionth time today. If he didn't repeat himself so much, I was sure the class would be done in 40 minutes instead of the actual 1 hour and 20 minutes. His alarm shrilled at full volume and that was my cue to put my things away and leave as fast as I could. I was hungry and tired a disastrous mix for me.
Walking through campus Eun-Jae fell into step beside me and together we made our way to the dorms. He was talking about how his architecture professor assigned a project due to next week and how that was not enough time for the amount of work it was. The words he used were out of my area of expertise, especially when they were mixed with his accent making it near impossible for me to understand. Sluggishly walking up the stairs, since the elevator was congested with students coming back from their classes, we arrived at our apartment.
"Home sweet home," Eun-Jae exclaimed, throwing his bag in his room.
"What do you feel like eating today?" I asked him, rummaging through our almost empty fridge.
"Let's order take out I'm in no mood to cook."
"Agreed," I nodded, "There's barely anything to make unless you feel like eating vegetables and a piece o- what even is that?" I grimaced grossed out at what seemed to be a frozen piece of meat.
"I think it's leftover chicken from that other time," Eun-Jae said, searching on the kitchen counter for our takeout menus.
"That was a month ago!" I can't believe we never got around to throwing it out, and it shall stay there until I take out the trash tomorrow, so it won't smell in the morning, "Chinese?"
"Chinese," he agreed, handing me the menu.
Deciding on what to order Eun-Jae took out his phone to make a call and I took this time to go and take a shower before the food came. The warm water was delightful relaxing my muscles and making me feel even sleepier, if it wasn't because of my stomach was rumbling I would have collapsed in bed. Getting dressed sweatpants and a T-shirt were the way to go along with some fuzzy socks to keep my feet warm for the night.
In the living room couch was Eun-Jae taking the whole space watching Netflix.
"Up," I spoke, lifting his feet and placing them on my lap, "When will the food get here?"
"Soon, they said around 20 minutes," he mumbled, eyes fixated on the screen.
To my surprise, he was watching 'To All the Boys I've Loved Before' the most chick flick movie there is. I loved it. I remember reading the book when I was in high school the cover was so girly with the pinks and blues.
"Have you ever received a love letter?" I wondered, staring down at him.
"No, honey, I was the one writing them," he admitted proud of himself.
"No way," I laughed, "Did it work?"
"It worked 5 years too late," he scoffed.
"Huh?"
"I wrote it for my girlfriend when we were in middle school, she said no but look at us now. I'd say it's a win," he grinned, tearing his eyes away from the screen and nudging me with his foot.
With a disgusted face I pushed his foot back down to my lap.
"That's cute, I've never written one or received one," I admitted after thinking for a good second, "I would say chivalry is dead but look at you such a gentleman."
A knock on the door made the both of us turn to focus on the door. Whoever saw us would think we haven't eaten in weeks when in fact we had lunch together earlier.
"The food is here!" Eun-Jae jumped up in a blink of an eye and ran towards the door. I stayed in my place watching how Lara Jean fell back in love with Peter so effortlessly. Maybe I should write a love letter of my own and admit what I'm feeling to a certain singer.
Closing the door with a slam Eun-Jae placed the bag of food on the coffee table. Impatiently he tore the bag open and dug in, stuffing his cheeks full of food.
"What did I miss?" he asked me, chewing with his mouth open and sitting on the back on his usual side of the couch.
"It looks like your manners," I muttered.
There was another knock on the door, Eun-Jae turned to me in question and I shrugged having no idea who it could be. My heart skipped a beat thinking maybe it was Taehyung with a surprise visit even though he said he'd be busy for the next few days. Forgetting about the delicious smelling food in front of me, surprising I know, I took tentative steps to the door and not knowing what to expect I slowly opened the door with a creak. In front of me was another delivery boy, but this time with a beautiful bouquet of white lilies. The flowers I had been named after.
"Delivery for Seong Nari," he announced, looking at his tablet with the information.
"That's me," I answered, raising my hand.
The delivery boy left instantly after handing me the flowers, leaving me confused on the doorway.
"Who is i- whoa, are those for me?" Eun-Jae teased.
"No!"
Taking a seat on the couch, I placed the delicate flowers on the cushions as I searched for a card. Finding the small envelope between the soft petals of the flowers I opened it with shaky hands. It was beyond my understanding why I was so nervous, or was it excitement? Those two emotions twisted together, making them indistinguishable. While I was slightly disappointed it wasn't Tae visiting me there was no doubt that the flowers were from him. As I read the hidden message Eun-Jae fixed his eyes on me forgetting about the movie playing on the TV.
'I saw these flowers on my way to work and thought of you,
I'm sorry I can't see you this week,
Can I take you out for your birthday next week?
I miss you my beautiful Lily
-Taehyung'
I held the card to my chest after I finished reading it, I felt incredibly happy and forgot about the previous disappointment. There was something about receiving flowers that was so special. It shows that maybe I'm on his mind just as much that he's on mine. I was not expecting him to do something like this because we talked every day, but I'm so happy that he did. There was a smile etched onto my face and happiness in my heart that surpassed the hunger and tiredness I previously felt. Chivalry wasn't dead after all.
I searched through the cushions for my phone and dialed the top number on my recent list. He must have been expecting me as it didn't take long for him to pick up.
"Hello, my little flower, have an answer already?" he sweetly asked and although I couldn't see him, I knew there was a smile on his face.
"I would love to," I responded my voice filled with emotion.
"Good, 'cause I wasn't taking no as an answer," Taehyung chuckled.
"They are beautiful Tae," I gushed about the flowers in front of me, stroking their leaves and petals.
"They might be pretty, but they don't compare to you," Taehyung softly said.
"Tae, stop it," I nervously giggled. I was glad he wasn't here because he would have seen the blush on my face, and he wouldn't have let it go unnoticed.
"I'll never stop," he promised, there was a commotion coming from his side of the line, making him add quickly, "But for now I have to go."
"I understand, oh and Tae?" I called before he hung up.
"Yes?"
"I miss you too."
Eun-Jae was waiting for me in the living room with the TV on mute seeing as I had moved to my room when I noticed he was too attentive to my conversation, "Was that lover boy?"
"Shut up, did you leave me some food?"
"I'll give you the food if you show me the card," he bribed, holding my box of food in the air.
Rolling my eyes, I handed him the message Taehyung wrote me.
"He's good, I have to take pointers," Eun-Jae sighed going to his room to get his laptop.
"What are you doing?"
"Searching flower shops close to home to send to my girlfriend," he mumbled, opening up a new google tab.
"Copycat," I told him yet sat closer to him to look at the screen and help him out.
"Are you two exclusive?" Eun-Jae asked out of nowhere.
"Kind of?" I began saying, "We're dating, he's the only guy I'm seeing, and I better be the only girl he is seeing too."
"Hm, I thought you were already a thing," he shrugged, opening a new link of a flower shop in Australia.
"We're taking things slow."
"Why? Because he's an idol?" He questioned, turning to me and giving me a knowing look.
His words slapped me in the face I knew he would've gotten it eventually, but damn he took me by surprise.
Laughing at my shock, he spoke, "I figured it out a few days ago when I stumbled on a BTS ad and his face popped up, there is no mistaking that handsome face. Don't worry, I'm not telling anyone."
"You almost made me have a heart attack," I yelled at him, beating him with a cushion as he laughed hysterically.
A/N:
I picked lilies because Nari's name means Lily.
This chapter came out of nowhere because I was planning on jumping straight to her birthday, but this was too cute to not write it.
Eun-Jae finally found out! About time!
