chapter eleven

*FLASHBACK*

Hey dad, when are we leaving?" My mom, dad and I would be heading to Wolfe lake, in honor of my mom's birthday, and I was anxious to leave.

"We'll be leaving shortly, your patience will be rewarded." He tells me in an exasperated tone. "We're waiting on your mother to finish up her packing, but since it is her birthday we won't push her." He laughs at my annoyed expression.

As my mom heads out of the door and locks it, she turns to look at us with a broad smile on her face.

"Almost done honey!" She calls to me. I smile. Nobody could be mad at Lilly James for long. With her beautiful smile and long brown hair, I inherited many of my looks from her. Some people wonder if my father, is really my father with how much I look like him, which is a big fat zero percent.

She shoves her things in the trunk of our escalade and my father starts of to Wolfe lake. Being alpha of the Riverhill pack, my dad had a lot of connections with a lot of different people, but also many enemy's. Therefore, us being able to do fun things had to be kept low and under the radar. Our pack was one of the few most wanted packs for the rogues to take over. The first pack actually. We were very powerful thanks to my father, but power always consequences.

Whenever we went out, people, namely rouge terrorist, who were usually scorned by the pack alphas, tried to attack us. They tried to take out the alpha and Luna, and sometimes tried to take me out as well, being the only child able to carry on Alpha James' bloodline.

We usually had to have at least a dozen guardians with us at all times, just to be safe.

I hated it.

I really wanted my family and I to be protected, but at times my father could go overboard. He assigns two guards to be with me during school hours and one guard after school. Sometimes when the attacks were really bad, he'd assign a guard to go everywhere with me. I mean everywhere.

Back to the trip, I didn't notice any guardian van following us to Wolfe lake. "Hey dad, why aren't there any guards following us?"

"I've decided that if we keep under the radar and don't tell anyone about the trip, besides Rob where we're going, we can afford to not bring any guards with us this trip." I smile to myself rather smugly.

This is a good opportunity to let you free dontcha think?

I ask my wolf, seeking her from my mind.

Oh yes indeed Madi, I can't wait to see what the day brings us.

She replies, ravenous to be out and about.

My father rarely let's me roam free with my wolf, and on the small times I'm allowed, I always have, and you guessed it, a guardian. He says I am a special kind of wolf, especially because I shifted so young at the early age of 2, when most wolves shift when puberty hits. I am the unusual color of midnight black. All alphas or soon to be alphas are black, but they are usually male. I have a jagged silver tattoo on my hindquarters almost like a lighting strike. When I shift my eyes turn a different color. They turn to an alarming bright aqua color, almost glowing.

Dad says that I am going to be very important in my future and to my future pack, states a so called prophecy I had been 'gifted' with since birth. I called it a curse, but my mother called it a blessing.

When we arrive at the cabin just above a hill in Wolfe lake, all hell breaks loose. As soon as we step out of the can, rogues were everywhere. My dad orders me and my mother to get back in the car, but we aren't able to get that far when we are bombarded with rogues. They come at us from every angle and capture us, putting us In a small car parked on the side of the road. My father screeches for us to fight, but we're bound and useless.

The greatest way to take out an alpha? Take away his Luna and pup, and you've got him at your knees.

My father wasn't stupid. Knowing exactly what they expected him to do, he does the opposite. He charges after the car, smashing the back windows and reaching for me and mom. She has been unusually quiet, whereas I'm screaming my lungs off. When my dad reaches us he pulls us out of the car and carries us to our own car.

He had taken out a total of twelve rogues trying to save us. There are only two left, and they cower away, their tails between there legs.

We never did end up celebrating my mother's birthday, and never really got to see Wolfe lake.
