Rin pov

"Something has been on my mind for a mind now," I sigh. Lucifers look at me. 

"Go on," He adds. 

"I don't want to be just your precious little jewel anymore. I know that's not how you see me but it's how everyone else does. I can be doing more I can be more. I want to help you. I want to be useful," I reply.

Lucifer runs his hand over my cheek. "You are useful. You already help me enough by staying by my side and staying safe." 

"But that's not enough you have risked so much for me and I need to do something for you," I reply. 

"Rin." 

"You told me to be honest with you. So I am, and this is how I feel. I don't want to be an accessory to the public I want to help you," I reply. 

"Why aren't you satisfied here, am I not enough?" Lucifer growls in warning grabbing my wrist. I whine and he loses his grasp.

"Of course not," I shake my head. "I just want to be more useful to you, like Egyn or Iblis. If I had a job like them then I would feel a lot better."

"no."

"Why not?" 

"You could get hurt. I am not going to put you on the front lines or have you take part in any experiments. Or even oversee them. Egyn and Iblis are at risk and I don't want that for you," 

"But I need to be useful."

"You are." 

"How can I be helpful if you refuse to let me do anything? Do you not trust me? Am I so untrustworthy that you can't rely on me for a simple task? Just doing a small project would make me feel better. something to help you. It would make me feel a lot better," I reply.

"Fine. One project. And you won't ask again correct?" Lucifer asks. I nod. 

"If egyn agrees to it, then I will allow you to help assist with the serum. But you have to follow what Egyn tells you to do, if you fight with him I will take you off the project and you will not be allowed to work on it again."

I nod happily. 

"Starting tomorrow You have two months to work on the serum for this host, if you don't find anything in that time then your research will end. Is that understood?" Lucifer replies. 

"Yes," I say happily. Lucifer smiles. 

"I will have Egyn show you around the lab. And you are going to keep a journal to document the process."

The next day comes by quickly and Lucifer gives me the journal.

Day one,

Egyn showed me all around the lab. I get my own lab! It's a small lab but I still get my own. I have a few ideas on how to start finding a serum. I am a Nephilim after all. So maybe I can use my own blood and heal Lucifer. It is a start.

Day two,

I spent most of the day figuring out how to mix the serum and set everything up. I got Egyn to give me some rats once they are done with testing them.

Day seven,

I forgot to keep track of my progress. Egyn gave me ten rats and I have been feeding them small bits of carrots socked in small drops of my blood. Nothing has really been happing but I don't expect results overnight.

Day nine,

I named the rats. Ice, Ash, Fang, Gergore, Apple, and Cat. Weird names I know but there are my lab rats. Besides they have been through a lot they deserve to have fun names.

Day twenty,

The rats were acting weird today. They were trying to rip out their own fur. I gave them some play time and that seemed to calm them down. I feed them some more carrots and they seemed to be doing better.

Day twenty-six,

The rats were oddly quiet today. They just looked at me today. I fed them the carrot and they didn't eat it. They just watched me. It was almost like they were wanting to talk to me. I tried to play with them but they didn't respond. They are still alive, and they can move and play but for some reason, they aren't.

Day twenty-nine,

When I walked into the lab today all the rats were missing and there was blood in all of their cages. All except one. Ice. I couldn't find Ice so I look all around the lab for her. When I found her she was eating Cat... and she was ten times her normal side. Her teeth were a lot sharper and she was just covered in blood. She chattered happily when she saw me and walked over to me. I spent the entire day cleaning her up.

Day thirty-six,

I spent the day mixing and trying to find the perfect mix. Ice bothered me the entire day. I don't know what to call her. Maybe, a Size Modified Lab Rat. S. M. L. R. It's kinda ironic. It sounds like smaller when she is actually bigger than she should be.

Day fourty-eight,

Ice has been bugging me all day and she isn't hungry because she isn't eating anything I give her. Egyn also freaked out when he found Ice. I can tell he has questions, like why I have a giant rat in my lab. I will explain it to him later

Day fifty,

After weeks of testing Lucifer finally agreed to use the serum. I am so excited. I really hope it works. I will be the one who healed Lucifer! After the experiment is over Lucifer is going to read through this, so I want him to know how much I want this to work.

Day sixty,

It's the last day, and nothing has happened with Lucifer. I guess it didn't work. I explained Ice to Lucifer and Egyn. Egyn suggested that they use her for tests and I growled at him. Then ice tried to attack Egyn. I guess Ice is my attack rat.

"She is not a rat Rin. Rats don't get that big," Lucifer sighs as he reads the journal. I sit on his couch petting Ice. 

"She came from a Rat. She has just been modified. She is an SMLR if nothing else," I reply.

 "Or a monster," Lucifer suggests. 

"She is beautiful and she is not a monster," I whine. 

"She ate the other lab rats," Lucifer replies. 

"And Asatorth likes to eat mayonnaise by itself. We both have different definitions of a monster," I reply.

"If Astaorth ate Egyn and Iblis would he be a monster?" Lucifer asks. 

"no... he would Astaroth when he is hungry," I reply. Lucifer stares at me blanked face. "Well, I am not wrong." 

Lucifer rolls his eyes and he goes back to reading. "Well you may have not found a cure but your work may be able to help our other researchers." Lucifer coos. 

"It will?" I reply happily, I didn't think I really got anywhere with this, but if he thinks I did something good then maybe I was more help than I thought.

"It may, there is no guarantee that this will have any effect on later tests."

 Ah, the fancy way of saying I was useless. "Hopefully ice can be of some use in this," Lucifer says walking over and sitting next to me. 

"At least I had some success," I add.

"She is a good attack raccoon," Lucifer coos petting her head. 

"Attack rat," I reply correcting him. 

"Whatever she is will be useful to us," Lucifer adds. "You did your best, that's all I could have asked for."

"Fine," I sigh, handing her over to him.
