Chapter Three: Dinner-Part Two
Was he apologizing?! But he didn't do it! It was Lance that should be saying sorry, not him! Wait, what's happening to my mind?! Why can't I keep my head on straight? Werewolves are evil! Humans are good!
"It's fine...." I didn't meet his gaze as I stared around at all the other wolf-people talking amongst themselves.
"No, it's not. He was bothering you, and that's not a way to treat a guest." Rafire continued to argue, making me uncomfortable.
"Just... Leave it alone. I'm not in the mood." I told him quietly, rubbing my arms from nervousness.
"Fine..." I heard him sigh deeply before he yawned. "My parents find a.... Special interest in you and your brother. They think," he took a deep breath, "that one of you will become one of the greatest Alphas the world has ever seen." At his words I turned to look at him, he looked to almost wince when my green eyes hit him. I guess my eyes were as sharp as ever, it's from reading or at least that's what mom used to say.
"But we're not werewolves," I resisted the urge to jump up and scream at him. But just barely.
"He hasn't told you? I would've thought he'd tell you as soon as you were awake." Rafire rubbed his neck as he thought up words. "Your brother... Is a... Werewolf..."
My jaw hung open as soon as that last word left his mouth, Jack. Was. A. Werwolf. And. He. Didn't. Tell. Me! How could he? "But I'm no werewolf..."
"Well... About that..."
"Don't tell me that I'm a werewolf, just please, don't."
"No, your not."
"Whew!"
"However," he added, I gave a groan. "Your due to be one in two days."
"What?! No!" I was mad now, I wasn't going to be one of the things that killed my family.
"Melo-"
"No. I'm tired, leave me alone." I stood up and marched over to Shawn, I wasn't in the mood to talk to Jack.
He glanced at me and instantly stood. "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
I sighed and looked at him in shock, "how can you tell?"
"I've got the best nose in this pack and I can smell your hostility."
"Oh... I'll tell you when we get to the room." I told him, I didn't know whether it was my room, Jack's room, or someone else's.
"Got it, follow me," he led me upstairs and into that room again. I was to upset to notice any details so I just left it alone. I sat down on the bed and sighed. "You gonna tell me what's got you all worked up?" Shawn asked when he shut the door and turned on the light.
"Rafire..." I wasn't able to finish before he cut in.
"What did that bastard do to you?!"
"He just told me that Jack was a werewolf and that I was supposed to be one in two days!" I had to take a deep breath after that outburst and looked to see Shawn's red face.
"I should have told you, I'm sorry." He apologized and rubbed his temple as his anger subsided.
What is up with people and the word 'sorry' today? I thought in confusion.
"But it's Jack's fault, not yours!"
"Your very sweet ya'know..." Shawn smiled kindly at me before turning and opening the door.
"I'll see you tomorrow, right?" I couldn't help but ask the question. Shawn seemed to be the nicest and most humble werewolf so far.
"I'll be there." Then he left, closing the door quietly.
I snuggled up in the blankets and tried to fall asleep but, even though I was exhausted, I just couldn't. Not with the thought that this wasn't my bed, this wasn't my home, the people downstairs weren't my family. Everything here wasn't mine and would never be mine.
