Royalty

It was in the early afternoon, soft light settled over the kingdom, making it quite odd that no one saw the figure climb up the side of the Royal Tower. It might just be that no one ever expected anyone to be stupid enough to try to break into the royal bedroom in the middle of the day, or perhaps, the kingdom's citizens just didn’t care enough about this foolish person to attempt to stop him.

The room she was so skillfully scaling her way into was the royal bedroom, located in a tall tower off to the side of the castle. During this time of the day, the king would be out speaking with his generals and advisers, which was exactly what the victoriously grinning female realized when she managed to grab onto the ledge and glance inside.

She was not after treasure, thought there was plenty of it in the room. The intruder glanced around as she silently vaulted inside the narrow arched window, landing on the thick dark carpet silently. The room was red and black, dark sleek furniture of expensive carved wood, thick leather chairs and red half melted candles adorned the nightstand. It was more grandiose than she’d imagined.

The centerpiece of the room was the bed. It was large, as expected since the king was not a small man by any means. Large leather headboard seemed to have suffered some minor clawing damage, very conspicuous rings with chains protruded from the wall. The intruder made her way over to the bed carefully, thick black silken sheets bundled up to reveal the goal of her burglary, the centerpiece of the centerpiece.

The queen lay wrapped up in the sheets, softly snoring with a slightly anxious look on his face. The intruder had to steady her breath, watching the small male slumber away cluelessly.

“Queen Sam, I have come to rescue you from this prison.” the intruder whispered as she gently slipped a pill through the sleeping man's teeth, pulling up a communication amulet from her pocket as she spoke in hushed tones. “The queen has been secured, starting phase-2. What’s the status on the king?"

"Still busy, though most likely not for long. Hurry."

"Understood.”

Quickly preparing a rope for her escape through the window and locking the door, the trespasser crouched by the side of the bed closest to the queen, smoothing out his beautiful dress cautiously before pulling the light royalty into her arms, waking him up in the process.

“Huh? Taurtis, is it dinner time, did you fini-” The queen’s tired slurring fell silent when he realized he was being held by a complete stranger. “What the FUCK-”

“Shhh, my queen.” The intruder silenced him with a gentle finger pressed to his lips. “I have come to save you-”

“What?” Sam's tone fell from anger into absolute confusion. “From what?"

"The king, of course! How he locks you away in this tower, selfishly abusing you! The few times we, the rebellion, see you; your beautifully anxious and demure expression catches our hearts! Oh, you look so frightened and sad standing next to that tyrant, so shy and gentle. We long to save you from his tyranny, Queen Sam, and restore your-"

"What the fuck are you talking about?” The queen pushed himself away from his attempted kidnapper. “I love being a queen. I do nothing but nap and eat all day, are you serious? Put me down or I'll kill you-"

"Ah! You have been brainwashed! He has abused you so, the TRAGEDY.” The kidnapper walked towards the window, and Sam was getting very anxious, grabbing onto the bedpost.

“Watch THE FUCKIN’ DRESS you FUCKHEAD. This is my FAVORITE ONE."

The screaming seemed to alert the guards on this floor. There was light knocking on the door and rattling of the doorknob. "Queen Sam? Is everything alright?"

"NO IT’S-MMMPH!!” Sam's words were muffled by the intruder’s hand over his mouth as the kidnapper plucked his fingers free of the dark wooden bedpost.

“Queen Sam?” The guards inquired again, loud bashes on the door as they attempted to break it down. It would take a battering ram to break down the door, and Sam knew it.

“GET TAURTIS YOU, DUMB MUTTS!!!” Sam yelped as the last of his fingers were torn free of the bedpost, a hand struggling to cover his mouth. He could hear the guards outside the room rush away, to get the king who had a key to the room.

Sam struggled, his body feeling uncomfortably warm and heavy as he elbowed the intruder in the face. “What did you DO to me?”

“I only gave you a relaxant to prevent any unnecessary stress."

"You DRUGGED me!?” Sam let out an almost hysterical laugh that sent shivers down the intruder’s spine. “You’re DEAD. So, so dead."

"You’re in hysterics! We need to hurry before the other one shows up-” The attacker tried to cover the queen’s mouth again, dragging the light and struggling royalty to the window.

“I’m gonna rip off your fuckin’ balls, man.” Sam snarled, biting down on the woman’s hand, red hot blood gushing out of her hand and dripping down the small male's chin and onto his dress. The shock was so great that the attacker dropped her catch on the floor, but Sam’s legs were jello from the relaxant, and he only barely managed to drag himself towards the door before he was caught again.

“I’m here to SAVE you and THIS is how you THANK ME, you BITCH!?” The kidnapper snarled as the heavy and familiar footsteps of the tyrannical king seemed to shake the entire tower. The kidnapper caught Sam by the neck, hauling him to his feet as the footsteps seemed to rattle the paintings on the walls with their intensity.

“Heh. You’re dead.” Sam snorted in amusement through his drugged drowsiness.

“N-no, I am not!” The kidnapper grabbed one of the decorative knives off the wall, twisting Sam's arms to force him to expose his neck. “I know you're not as strong as you seem!”

“Sam, what is going on here? I’m busy-” the doorknob rattled, Taurtis' voice slightly muffled and annoyed through the door.

“TAURTIS! HELP ME!! SHE DRUGGED ME, I CANT-"

The door practically exploded open and slammed against the wall roughly, seemingly rattling the entire tower. The gloved fingers of the king breached the layer of dust, dark eyes locked onto Sam with intensity that would have made any other living person uncomfortable.

"Sa-” The booming voice of King Taurtis fell silent mid word, and he paused halfway into the room, his eyes trained on the intruder who raised a knife against the smaller male’s neck.

“D-don’t try anything! We’re LEAVING!” The intruder said as bravely as she could, her knees shaking and her voice sounding rough and terrified. “Back out of the doorway!"

Much to Sam's surprise, Taurtis did as he was told, taking a step out of the doorway, shadow falling over his features as he left the light of the room, his left hand glowing a brilliant blue through the dark as his magic activated. Not a word spoken, not a single sound. Only the bright glow from his hand and red magic seeping like smoke through his grit teeth.

Taurtis wasn’t angry, he was absolutely livid.

The intruder slowly backed towards the wall, getting closer to the window, with every step she took, Taurtis followed with one forward. Maintaining a predatory stalking distance.

"Heh. The moment you turn around to leave through that window, you’re dead, buddy.” Sam said low, unable too look away from Taurtis' livid expression. He loved when his husband was this angry, especially when it wasn’t directed at him.

“T-then we’re leaving through the door!” The intruder valiantly took a step towards the opposing king, trying to hug the wall with her back until she reached the door.

“You stand a much bigger chance of survival if you put him down.” Taurtis' voice was that oddly pleasant tone that he tended to make before he tore people’s windpipe out. It sent a chill down the spine of every single person who heard it. Sam could see the magic seeping through the cracks between his fingers when he clenched his fist as his anger peaked in a low growl.

“N-not until I'm outside!” The clueless kidnapper struggled to walk down the hallway, the snarling king and his at-attention guards watching every step she took.

All it took was a single glance to the steps of the tower staircase and the tension in the room was broken. The rebel didn’t see it coming, but Sam did.

The moment the eye contact was gone, Taurtis was towering above them, grabbing the knife, twisting it with a sharp and loud sound of snapping wrist right by Sam's ear. The intruder fell down the stairs with a scream. Sam had expected to be dragged along with her, but an arm across the waist held him up as he listened to the sickening thuds and cracks of a body falling backwards down stone steps.

Then there was absolute silence.
