6. Traces Of The Past
Time was ticking and the raven head stayed awake. Nothing, absolutely nothing was good enough to distract his mind from the sight he caught at Mercury.
How twisted can the destiny be in entwining their strings of fate together? After 8 years, is it still possible to so unlucky that you're drawn to meet the one person whom you've vow to not come across ever again?
Jungkook was frustrated and driven to the edge with each passing second. He tossed and turned in his warm bed without the ability to fall asleep.
He didn't cry nor did he break down. The raven head is so done with acting as such. 20 years old Jungkook might've broken down and cry at the mere sight of the silver head but not the 28 years old Jungkook who knew better.
"Argh! I hate my fate!"
That was the last complaint reaching the dawn as Jungkook's mind and body gave up in exhaustion as the raven head fell asleep without his own accord. It wasn't until the evening that the raven head was stirring awake again.
The rest day for Jungkook went by in a swift as the raven head male was bundled up in the comfort of his blanket and never left his room apart from the need for toilet and food. Jimin on the other hand has accustomed to the city life in a day as he willingly went exploring on his own without the supervision of the raven head.
Things looked like it was flourishing well in the raven head's universe once again. Although the flash memories of having a certain silver head's image imprinted in his mind, Jungkook wanted to have the conviction that he will never be unlucky twice in a row to meet the man he despises in a city packed with people.
Guess his rotten luck will come in pretty evident as the day for the official business meeting draws nearer than expected. What seems like an exciting opportunity for the raven head is going to be the devil's luck as he steps his feet into the office space at New York Plaza District, the home of the devil himself.
"Ah, the marble floor feels so different. Isn't it Kook?"
Jimin was gawking at the interior and did a 360-degree turn to take in the awe. Both the buddies were excited to the core waking up this morning about finally embarking on the journey to work on one of the most prestige project out there in the decade.
"It is, but this is a unit they have in the plaza, I guess we will be building an entire building owned by the Vante in Sydney and Seoul. We have to do a fucking good job Jimin."
"Oh, you bet we will do better than these marble floors. Although I might work on some inspiration from here as well. Hey, how about the fountain in the middle of the reception? Too much? Do we need like a bonsai or something? I heard the cousin Kim is a plant lover. Also-...."
"Jimin. Laters ok? We need to first meet the Vante boss and survive the meeting. I'm so nervous right now, not gonna lie."
The raven head was clutching his briefcase in one hand and iPad in another which he diligently used to run over some ideas and notes from his past projects which might interest the boss whom he has yet to meet.
"I think you'll do fine Jungkook. Mr Kim can be quite an ordeal but he looked somewhat sensible to me" The blond shrugged off the raven head's worry aside.
"Well, thanks for the tip but it didn't convince me Jimin. By the way, aren't we suppose to meet Hoseok here?" Jungkook looked around the reception and found no sign of their copper head boss.
"Hobi will be here in 10 mins, he said to meet Jin when we arrive at the office. I guess we can ask the lady at the reception for Jin?"
Jungkook nodded. He checked the time and saw it was 10 minutes to 9 am before their set time for the meeting. Swiftly, he made his way to the middle-aged lady at the counter and greeted her politely.
"Morning Madam, I'm here from Gardler and I would like to meet Mr Jin from Vante? Could you please help me with it?"
The raven head's sweet smile and politeness made the lady's morning as she returned his sweet gesture with an equally pleasant greeting.
"Well good morning dear. I can most certainly look for Mr Jin, hold on a second." She did what she has to do with her telephone as she checked in with Vante's office level and nodded when she got a reply to give the visitor access to their office space
"Mr Jin will be waiting for you at the office level on Vante's floor. I can guide you in if you'd like me to."
"I would love that very much. You're very kind, I hope you have a wonderful day ahead."
Aren't our Jungkok the sweetest boy alive? He was kind enough to have small chatters with the lady who instantly found her interest in the young boy who was both pleasant in character and appearance.
"You have a good day too young man, the world will be a better place if everyone chooses to be polite and responsive as you. It made my morning a lot better." The lady had a specific rude young tycoon in mind when she compares with Jungkook whom she greets almost daily but with no polite responses ever. Not even once.
The raven head chuckled lightly without further comments as he went up the floors with Jimin, looking to make a good first impression.
"You ready Jungkook?"
"Ready as ever."
Jimin patted the younger's shoulder and opened the office meeting room. "Hello Jin, Hey Suga and Hi Mr Kim." The blond was the first one to step into the space making way for Jungkook who was trailing behind his back. Give it to Jimin to pave the way to remove the awkwardness and he is the master of it.
All three of the greeted men replied the blond with different level of excitement while Jungkook took in their appearance one by one.
Oh, that must be the legal advisor. He looks stoic and cold. That? I guess is the business analyst? He looks the friendliest and what a broad shoulder he has? And...who is that?
Jungkook scanned their appearance to match all the stories which Jimin fed him with after meeting the stakeholders for the past two days. Unlike Jungkook, Jimin has made quite an impression and is now a favourable person to the clients.
"Hello, I'm Jungkook. The Director of Gardler from Australia." Jungkook extended his hand for a greeting towards the three males.
Both Suga and Jin took their turns to greet the raven head while the last person on the table has a deep furrowed look in his face. "Um hi, I'm Namjoon. One of the family shareholder." Joon stood up and leaned over the table to greet the raven head.
"Hello Namjoon. Nice to meet you."
"Take a seat please." Jin was once again mediating the meeting as he should for the spoiled young tycoon who didn't show up on time as informed. Safe to say, Suga has already crushed one of Taehyung's most valuable jewel and posted a countdown for the silver head to arrive in the office within the next hour or the tyre of his Ferrari won't be seeing another daylight.
"Well, I guess we are still missing our bosses?" Jimin noticed that both Taehyung and Hoseok was not in the meeting.
"I know Hoseok is running late as he informed he will be in by 915 am after his conference call with China partners." Jungkook explained on behalf.
"That's alright Jungkook. I know Hoseok is never the one to be late unless it's a crucial appointment. Besides, I heard that you will be spearheading the entire expansion, so I guess you're the MVP here."
Jin was glad that he finally gets to meet the Jungkook which Hoseok raved about in person. He must admit, he was quite impressed with the youngster's talent despite such a tender age where most of the boys at his state will rather be chasing entertainment.
The raven head visibly blushed as he tried to hide his flustered state while Jimin continued to blow the trumpet for his best friend. The chat lasted about 5 minutes with Jimin showering Jungkook all the glory when the door opened to reveal the man they have been waiting for.
It was Hoseok.
"Hello fellas!"
"Hey Hoseok, glad you made it on time." Jin was pleased to meet his friend. The older was glad that he gets to work with Hoseok and Gardler on this. Maybe it is a blessing in disguise that Jin got to make the final selection as Taehyung was too busy to care.
"Yea, he is a man of his words and principal of time. Unlike our little Mr Kim." Suga rolled his eyes and didn't bother to hide his annoyance about Taehyung reaching late to meetings again.
"Yoongi. Not now."
Jin never addresses Suga by his real name unless he is dead serious about something. As much as Jin can understand Suga's irritation with Taehyung's behaviour, he is not willing to stoop Tae's image low in the eyes of their partners.
"Whatever, he has 4 minutes before he loses a tyre to his Ferrari." Yoongi was not kidding.
Jimin and Jungkook widened their eyes in confusion while Hoseok kept his amused look low for he knows all the tricks and deeds that these 3 always pull on their young boss Taehyung. Hoseok heard it all from Jin's daily rambles.
"Alright so maybe we can start some brainstorming and ideas-...uh Tae?"
The sound of the door-busting open was like someone hit through the brick and rummaged the wall to force their entry in. A dishevelled looking Taehyung barged in half panting with shirts buttoned in all sort of the wrong direction.
Suga was grinning evilly as he crossed his arms looking at the silver head. "You're saved by a minute. Well done."
"Oh thank God! I just spent thousands on their rims last week." Taehyung turned to a worshiper giving thanks to God.
"Mhm, want to have a seat now? We have been waiting and all the partners from Gardler are here. You know Hoseok and Jimin, now meet Jungkook - the lead urban planner and also director of Gardler Sydney and Seoul."
Jin proudly introduced the raven head who was sitting on the chair with his back facing the silver head.
The name rang a loud bell in Taehyung's mind but his dishevelled hair might have messed his ability to think as he scrunched his brows in the wonder of how does the name Jungkook sound so familiar to him.
"Jungook, meet Mr Kim Taehyung, MD of Vante Corp."
The room turned an icy cold chiller for the raven head, sweat forming on his forehead as his hands shake with panic rising in his chest. Jungkook was frozen in his seat. The name too rang a bell inside his raven head and boy, it was like a ring of death for him at that very moment.
"Um Jungkook? Wouldn't you say hi to Mr Kim?"
Hoseok gently nudged the younger from the side as Jungkook was fixated on the table, hands frozen in place with his body making him like a sitting stone. Yet, he did muster the courage to turn his body back and stood, all while eyes on the ground.
"H-hello Mr K-Kim, nice to m-meet you."
"Well hello there Jungkook."
