Taehyung huffs as his shift comes to an end and Jungkook isn't there to walk with him like he said he would be.
Taehyung finishes up in the back returns to the front after clocking out.
"Ah. Taehyung. I know you're getting off but if you could. Run those cupcakes to Mrs. Park in 3b. I don't want to leave the place unattended." Seojoon says.
Seojoon was a great boss and Taehyung was very fond of him so as much as he wanted to say no he didn't.
"Sure hyungnim." He says.
"You don't mind do you?" Seojoon asks.
"Not at all. I was heading that way anyways so." Taehyung says picking up the delivery basket.
"Just return the basket when you come in Wednesday." Seojoon says.
"Wednesday?" Taehyung asks. When did he take off until Wednesday?
"Yeah. Later Taehyung." Seojoon says heading to the back.
"Seoj~" Taehyung starts going to follow him.
"Go home Tae!" Seojoon calls letting the door swing close behind him.
Taehyung sighs, since when was he ever off for an entire week?
How was he supposed to pay the rent with only one week on his paycheck?
Taehyung groans in frustration as he grabs the basket and leaves the store.
Taehyung turns his phone to find a message from Jungkook.
douchebag:
hey baby i'm sorry i couldn't meet you after work. i'm covering for a coworker so i'll see you later tonight. i'll make it up to you tomorrow. i love you.
Taehyung rolls his eyes and locks his phone.
When he gets there Taehyung rings the buzzer.
"Who is it?"
"Cupcake delivery for Mrs. Park." Taehyung says.
"Oh Taehyung. Come right up." The women says before the gate clicks open.
Taehyung nods before going upstairs and meeting Mrs. Park at her door.
"How have you been Taehyung?" The kind women asks.
"I've been well." Taehyung says smiling brightly and speaking cheerfully. "Special occasion?"
"My granddaughter's birthday." Mrs. Park says letting him in.
"Oh that's wonderful. It's my birthday today as well." Taehyung says carrying the basket to the kitchen and setting it on the counter.
"What a surprise." Mrs. Park says. "Here let me give you a few dollars for your birthday."
"Oh no. We're not allowed to take tips." Taehyung says taking the cupcakes from the basket.
"It'll be just between us. Happy birthday dear." She says giving him the money anyways.
"Oh. Well thank you." Taehyung says bowing.
"Have a great day honey. I'll see you next time." Mrs. Park says walking him to the door.
"Have a nice day." Taehyung says bowing again before disappearing down the stairs.
Taehyung walks back towards the bakery to catch the metro back to the apartment.
As Taehyung sits on the train he bites his nails as he stresses over how he's going to tell the landlord that the rent would be late again. Even though he was pretty lenient with them because they were both so young and still trying to get on their feet it was still hard to have to ask.
He hated the feeling he got when everything felt like things weren't falling into place.
And on top of that Jungkook was becoming distant. It made him feel like he made a mistake by dragging him along with his stupid plan.
He walks the few blocks to the apartment he climbs the stairs that seem endless today.
He took his time, dreading being alone in the apartment for the rest of the night, especially on his birthday.
He wanted his friends back. And as much as he hated to admit it he kinda missed his dad and Jakyung. More Jakyung than his dad.
Taehyung sighs feeling like he's going to cry as he reaches in his pocket for his key.
He unlocks the door and walks in.
Who turned the lights out?
"생일 축하합니다,"
Taehyung's heart drops as a chorus of familiar voice start to sing.
"생일 축하합니다,"
When Taehyung rounds the corner his chest nearly combusts from all the emotion he feels.
"사랑하는, 태형씨,"
Seokjin holds the cake with twenty candles perfectly positioned and Namjoon, Hoseok, Yoongi and Jimin stand on either side of him.
"생일 축하합니다!"
Jin walks closer to him so he can blow out the candels.
It's difficult to take a full breath due to the tears rising in his throat but he does manage to take in enough air to blow the candels out.
The lights come back Jungkook appears by his side.
"Baby," He starts as he sinks down on one knee and takes Taehyung's hand.
Taehyung's vision blurs as his held back tears finally well in his eyes.
"Tae, I've been thinking about this moment for a while now and no matter how hard I tried to come up with the perfect words to say I could never find the right ones. So I'm just gonna wing it." Jungkook shrugs making everyone laugh lightly.
"When I first met you I didn't know that this would be our fate. I didn't think I'd fall for you but I'm happy I did. Because I've never loved someone more than I love you and no one has ever loved me like you do. And even though it was a little rough in the beginning we stuck by each other, you stuck by me and that says a lot. And I want us to stick by each other for the rest of our lives. So, Kim Taehyung. Will you marry me?"
Taehyung chokes out a small sob as Jungkook opens the navy blue ring box revealing the engagement ring.
Taehyung nods his head before choking out, "Y-Yes. Yes."
Jungkook stands up with a smile on his face and their friends cheer and clap as he slides the ring on Taehyung's left hand.
Taehyung smiles through his tears as he wraps his arms around Jungkook's neck, hugging him tightly.
"I love you, Tae." Jungkook mumbles into Taehyung's hair.
"I love you more." Taehyung says back.
"Not possible."
-
After Taehyung regains his composure and changes his clothes all seven of them go out to a restaurant that Jungkook had made reservations for ahead of time.
It's not too fancy but it's nice and they get a private section just for them.
Taehyung sits next to Jungkook across from Hoseok. Even though everyone tries to avoid the question Taehyung decides to address the elephant in the room.
"I'm sure you guys are wondering why we left." Taehyung says after they've ordered their drinks.
Hoseok nods. "It was kinda random."
Taehyung smiles. "Well. I was planning on leaving anyway and I just thought maybe Jungkook would want to come with me."
"You planned to leave town and kept it from us?" Namjoon asks in disbelief.
"I mean. I didn't think I'd actually follow through but I did. And now we're here." Taehyung shrugs.
"I thought you were going to school Jungkook." Yoongi says from beside Jungkook.
"Well yeah I was but. I didn't." Jungkook says.
"But anyways. How've you guys been. Are you going to school Hobi?" Taehyung changes the subject.
"Yeah. I got into a school in Goyang." Hoseok nods.
"Seoul? What happened to Chuncheon?" Taehyung asks.
"Well. I um. Changed my mind." Hoseok says nodding.
"More like someone changed it for you." Jin says nudging Hoseok.
Taehyung smiles completely oblivious to what Jin was implying.
"A special someone?" Jungkook asks raising an eyebrow.
Hoseok shrugs looking down and blushing profusely.
"Oh my gosh, Hobi you met someone?" Taehyung asks in surprise.
"Yeah I did." Hoseok says smiling a little.
"What's their name?" Taehyung asks.
"Well.." Hoseok trails off.
"Oh my goodness Hobi you don't know their name?" Jungkook asks in concern.
"Spit it out, Hobi." Namjoon urge's from Jin's side.
"It just kinda happened really I don't even know how it started but~"
"Who is it, Hobi?" Jungkook asks before drinking from his cup.
"T-Taeil."
Jungkook chokes on his drink when he gasps and Taehyung's eyes widen in complete shock.
Jin and Namjoon starting laughing and Yoongi and Jimin just smile without the slightest clue of what's so funny.
"Wait, wait." Jimin speaks up. "What about Taeil again?"
Jin and Namjoon hold back their laughs and Taehyung pats Jungkook's back while he recovers from his coughing fit.
"He's someone I went to high school with." Hoseok says.
"Taeil?"
"Y-Yeah it's Taeil."
"I just. I really need someone to talk to. And I know it's late but. I could only think of you to call."
"Tae."
Taehyung snaps from his thoughts when Jungkook says his name.
"You okay?" Jungkook asks.
"Yeah. I just thought about something." Taehyung says trying his best not to frown.
Their food arrives soon and they all start to eat.
"How long are you guys staying in town?" Taehyung asks as they eat.
"Just over the weekend." Namjoon answers.
Taehyung nods hiding his disappointment. So starting Monday everything would go back to normal.
Dinner is great and they all catch up so much and talk about everything that's happened since the last time they saw each other.
Jin's on his last year at culinary school in Seoul, Namjoon and Yoongi moved to the Seoul to pursue their dreams of becoming producers and the two couples are roommates, Hobi and Taeil~ still getting used to that combo~ are going to the same college and are going on their second year as a couple.
Apparently after Taehyung left Taeil was there for Hoseok a lot of the time and they became great friends and soon after they became more.
Taehyung wasn't necessarily upset he was just so confused. Taeil and Hoseok were like two totally different people.
I guess opposites really do attract.
-
After dinner everyone agrees to meet up tomorrow to spend the day together.
Apparently Jungkook has been planning this weekend forever and Taehyung was completely oblivious.
When Taehyung showers that night he stares down at the engagement ring on his finger.
Was this really happening? To him? The same Kim Taehyung from high school was here, engaged to the man of his dreams. It was almost like a dream.
Taehyung gets out of the shower and gets dressed into his shorts and t-shirt to sleep in.
"Baby?" Jungkook says when Taehyung walks out of the bathroom.
"Yes?" Taehyung asks dropping his clothes into the hamper.
"I was going to tell you this earlier but I didn't think it was the right time in front of everyone." Jungkook says from where he lays on the bed after having taken his shower.
"Mhm?" Taehyung hums for him to continue as he crawls into bed next to him.
"I was wondering what you thought about moving to Seoul." Jungkook says.
Taehyung scrunches his eyebrows but let's Jungkook continue.
"I know you said you were going to go there after school and now that's where our friends are. It would be nice wouldn't it?" Jungkook asks.
"We can't afford to move to Seoul." Taehyung says.
"We couldn't afford to move here but we did." Jungkook says.
"Seoul's different Jungkook. The cost of living is far more than it is here." Taehyung says.
"I know but. I've been doing some research and found some jobs in Seoul. Good jobs that I can take care of you with." Jungkook says.
"What if you don't get one of those jobs?" Taehyung asks.
"Well I have an interview over the phone tomorrow and you already know I'm a smooth talker so." Jungkook winks.
Taehyung smiles shaking his head. "If we do move that'll be really stepping out on a limb. We're doing so well here."
"Tae." Jungkook says wrapping his arm around him pulling him closer. "We stepped out on a limb moving here. And I know we're kinda settled now and comfortable but. Wasn't part of your goal by leaving home to step out of your comfort zone."
Taehyung nods silently into Jungkook's chest.
"Let's just take this chance. Okay?" Jungkook asks.
"Alright." Taehyung mumbles.
Jungkook smiles making Taehyung sit up and look at him. "I promise I'll take care of you, Taehyung."
"I'll take care of you too." Taehyung says.
Jungkook presses a light kiss on Taehyung's lips, pulling away before he kisses back. Taehyung pulls Jungkook back kissing him firmly.
Jungkook kisses back moving his lips against Taehyung's in a perfect rythm.
Taehyung drops his bottom lip allowing Jungkook to push his tongue inside his mouth.
Jungkook's hand slides down Taehyung's waist and grips his thigh making the latter hum into the kiss.
Jungkook pulls away. "I love you so much, Taehyung."
"I love you too." Taehyung says says back slightly out of breath.
Jungkook recaptures Taehyung's lips pulling him closer so he is almost straddling him.
Taehyung's hand instinctively go to Jungkook's hair tugging gently at the nape of his neck.
They both jump when Jungkook's phone vibrates against the dresser.
Jungkook groans pulling away from Taehyung to go get the phone.
Taehyung sighs running his fingers through his hair watching Jungkook answer.
"Hello?" He says waiting for a response only to hear silence. "Hello?"
The line drops ending the call and Jungkook frowns down at the phone.
"What?" Taehyung asks.
Jungkook shrugs. "Must've been the wrong number." He says walking back to the bed.
Taehyung nods as Jungkook crawls back into the positioning himself between his legs.
Taehyung wraps his arms around Jungkook's neck pulling him closer and pressing their lips together.
Jungkook smiles against Taehyung's lips hovering over him.
Jungkook slips his hands under Taehyung's shirt running his fingers up his slender frame.
Taehyung pulls away from Jungkook.
"Jungkook?" He says.
"Hm?" Jungkook asks looking down at him.
"So. The past few weeks of you working so much and getting so many phone calls was because of today right?" Taehyung asks.
"Yeah. Why?" Jungkook asks.
Taehyung shakes his head. "I was just making sure."
"It won't continue. I promise." Jungkook says.
Taehyung nods. "I trust you."
Jungkook smiles pressing a gentle kiss to Taehyung's lips.
"I know you had an early morning. You get some rest. I'm gonna make sure everyone got to their hotel okay." Jungkook says sitting up.
"Alright. Tell everyone I said good night." Taehyung says.
"I will. Sleep tight." Jungkook says standing and grabbing his phone before leaving the room.
Jungkook smiles to himself walking into the living room to call their friends.
Jungkook was happy. He was genuinely, truly happy.
And so was Taehyung.
Just a few years ago Taehyung couldn't have even pictured himself loving anyone as much as he loved Jungkook.
He wouldn't have even imagined he'd spend the rest of his life with Jungkook.
Who would think that the same Jungkook from high school was living with him and they were engaged to be married?
Taehyung smiles to himself.
He was happy. Genuinely, truly happy.
They were both content in this moment of time and they never wanted it to end.
