Taehyung finds Jungkook outside pacing slowly back and forth down the sidewalk.
"Hey." Taehyung says getting his attention.
Jungkook turns to him. "Yoongi's right isn't he?"
Taehyung shrugs shaking his head. "I don't know. Do you think he is?"
Jungkook shrugs before pacing again. "He's right about my parents. All I've been taught growing up was business. How start a business. How to run a business. Who to pick to run a business. How to get the business known. All that shits been in my ear since I can remember."
Taehyung nods and follows Jungkook down the sidewalk.
"That's all I know how to do." Jungkook says. "I know business like the back of my hand. Especially my family's business."
"If that's what you want to do then that's fine. Just because Yoongi wanted to lead a different life doesn't mean you have to." Taehyung says.
"That's just it Tae. I don't know if this is what I want to do now." Jungkook says.
"Just know this. Do whatever makes you happy, whether it's this or something else, because no one is going to have to live with the decisions you make but you." Taehyung says.
Jungkook stops and looks at Taehyung.
"What?" Taehyung asks.
"Let's leave." Jungkook says stepping so he's standing in front of Taehyung.
"What do you mean leave? We can't leave." Taehyung says.
"Sure we can. Come on." Jungkook says.
"Jungkook that's~"
"That's my decision. And I'll live with it later. So come on." Jungkook says taking Taehyung by the wrists and dragging him along.
"Don't use my encouraging words for bad. I meant to make you feel better." Taehyung says letting Jungkook drag him away from the expensive building.
"You did. And I appreciate it. But now I want to go do something fun." Jungkook says. "Do you know your way around this part if town?"
"Yeah. But what kind of fun are you looking for?" Taehyung asks.
"I want to go somewhere we can talk." Jungkook says.
"Are you afraid of heights?"
--
"This is not what I had in mind at all." Jungkook says as Taehyung leads him further into the wooded area of town.
"Shut up. We're not even there yet." Taehyung says easily maneuvering through the brush.
"What are we looking for?" Jungkook asks.
"There's a clearing in the back that over looks the city." Taehyung says. "It's better at night but whatever."
"How'd you find it?" Jungkook asks.
"Hoseok's dad showed us once sometime freshmen year." Taehyung says. "Hobi hated the height but I thought it was cool."
Jungkook hums in acknowledgement and continues to follow Taehyung.
When they do finally step out if all the fallen tree limbs and leaves the clearing is nothing short of beautiful.
"Woah." Jungkook mumbles looking out in the distance. "This is beautiful."
"Isn't it?" Taehyung says watching Jungkook's reaction to the place. "I come here a lot."
Taehyung walks towards the edge of the clearing looking down at the water.
"What do you do when you come here?" Jungkook asks.
"I like to think. Or try not to think. Either one." Taehyung says. "No one knows about it. So it's a good place to hide away when I feel like it."
Jungkook nods stepping to the edge and standing next to Taehyung.
"If no one else knows about why are you showing me?" Jungkook asks.
Taehyung shrugs. "In case you want to hide away some day."
Jungkook chuckles and looks back out at the view. "Thanks."
Taehyung sits down and let's his feet hang over the edge.
"I want to know about you Tae." Jungkook says sitting as well but not quite as close to the edge.
"What about me?" Taehyung asks looking over at him.
"Everything." Jungkook says.
"I'm not that interesting." Taehyung says. "There's really nothing to know."
"Everyone has a story. I want to know yours." Jungkook says.
"Alright." Taehyung says thinking for a second. "I was born here. Raised here. And I'll most likely die here."
"Tae. Come on. I'm serious." Jungkook says.
"Alright fine. Ask me whatever you want to know." Taehyung says.
"I want to know what makes you happy." Jungkook says.
Taehyung sighs looking ahead. "Peace always makes me happy. And love. Even though I don't know what love feels like. The idea that someone could love me makes me happy. And Hoseok. He's literally like the sun in my life. He's the only reason I'm still living."
Jungkook nods. "Hoseok loves you doesn't he?"
"I guess he does. And I love him. But like a brother would." Taehyung says.
Jungkook nods. "I know it's not really my place to ask but~"
"My mom?" Taehyung asks.
"Yeah." Jungkook says. "You don't have to answer. But the other night at the party you mentioned her."
Taehyung nods. "She's a wonderful person. Cared for me and my father as best she could when I was growing up. But when she got the chance to get away from my dad she took it. Even though she had to leave me. And I don't blame her. I probably would have done the same thing."
Jungkook nods. "I'm sorry she left you."
"Don't be. It's what she had to do." Taehyung says looking at Jungkook who has an unreadable look in his eyes.
"I'd never leave you Taehyung." Jungkook says.
Taehyung is slightly confused by his words.
"Of course you would if it meant getting away from my crazy ass father." Taehyung says laughing a little.
"I guess." Jungkook says looking down.
"It's okay. I forgave her a while ago." Taehyung says.
"What about your dad? He hasn't always been like this has he?" Jungkook asks.
"No. He's always been strict. But he never used to hit me." Taehyung says his hands instantly start to sweat at the thought of how his father would deal with him when he got home.
"I wish you would tell someone." Jungkook says.
"It's so much more to it than just that though. My father's been down on his luck all his life. He has a right to be angry."
"But he has no right to take it out on you." Jungkook says.
"I know." Taehyung says looking down. "But once I graduate I can leave. And then I'll be good."
Jungkook nods picking at the weeds in the ground.
"I just don't want anyone to feel sorry for me." Taehyung says. "It's not like I don't deserve it."
"You don't. What could you have done to deserve what he does to you?" Jungkook asks.
"I'm surprised you don't already know." Taehyung says with a heavy sigh.
"No one deserves to be punished to that extent. I don't care what you think you did to deserve it." Jungkook says.
"You don't know me like you think you do Jungkook." Taehyung says.
"I don't care~"
"I'm so different from who you think I am."
"I don't care about th~"
"You don't know what I've done."
"Tae."
"And when you find out I doubt you'll want to even be my friend."
"Taehyung."
"Even Hoseok almost abandoned me and he's my best friend. And you don't know me."
"Kim Taehyung."
"And I know it sounds stupid now~"
"Taehyung." Jungkook raises his voice over Taehyung's to get his attention.
Taehyung looks up at him.
"I like you. I like you a lot."
