It's the most unthinkable thing anyone could ever do, but it happened, and it wasn't planned.

Joshua Dun had taken the life of a man, all dressed in red with a hood over his face. He shot him straight in the eye and left his body to rot.

Unfortunately, he didn't get that far. The Icelandic police had found him, and he was taken into custody.

The next day was the trial. The prosecutor was seeking a life imprisonment for his crime, but Joshua was never prone to lying.

He was truthful during his testimony and confessed to the killing of the man.

During the eight hours of waiting, Joshua had hoped for some form of freedom, but it seemed like it wasn't going to be enough for the evil deed he's committed.

In the end, the jury came back and found him guilty to second degree murder, and he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

From that day on, Joshua's life had officially ended, and he was never going to see society ever again.

But on a very perilous day, everything was going to change.

10 years after his conviction, a now 29 year old Joshua sits in his cell at the Icelandic prison of Reykjavik.

Prison life wasn't easy for him. He was beaten, stripped of his identity, and humiliated in front of others.

No one was there for him, and he never had anyone who would defend him. He was always alone.

Of course, in his lonely cell with one window, two bunks, and a toilet, his prison mate, Eloise Vídalín, was the only friend he had.

In Iceland, friends were known as félagi, or known as a secret partner. Joshua always called him that so nobody would know he had friend.

Eloise was serving an 18 year sentence for robbery, and has secretly stolen stuff from the prison commissary to help keep himself in check.

Joshua always talked with him for advise, or to just talk about his day, but sometimes the answers Eloise would give him wouldn't be so delightful.

He would talk about how the world is evil, and that nobody should live, unless they'd want to suffer, but almost every day, Eloise would tell him to never stop fighting for his desires.

As an Icelandic, he would say, "berjast fynir löngunum pínum."

While sitting in his cell, Joshua turned and saw Eloise laying in his bunk and play with his shank ball like he'd always do. When he noticed he was watching him, he stopped and looked at him.

"It's always that same look." He said to him.

"What is?" Joshua asked.

"The one you make when I play with my ball."

"Well, it's very intriguing to me, because not all the other inmates have one like yours."

Eloise scoffed.

"They'd regret having one if they did."

Joshua turned back to the window and stared outside.

"Why not come talk to me?" Eloise asked.

"I'm not in the mood." Joshua replied. "I have too much on my mind."

"Reykjavik Fangelisi have no men who have thoughts in their mind."

"El, we've been in this conversation before. I'm different than most average Icelandic."

"I know, and it's not eolilegur."

Joshua looked at him awkwardly.

"Eolilegur?"

Eloise snarled at his reply.

"It means normal. You are not like normal Icelandic."

Joshua turned away.

"Why does normal matter in this place?"

"Because it's how you survive. The world is not worth it anymore. It's hræoilegt! Evil! But I know, as a man who has fought like hell for the past 10 years, this place is the only way to live in a world that is not worthless."

He pointed at him.

"And you, Joshua, are not worthless."

When he heard what he said, he smiled.

"Thank you, El."

He smirked at his words.

"Sjálfsagt."

Later that night, as the entire prison slept, Joshua was brought in to the assistant head officer. He sat down in front of the man, who held a cigarette in his hand.

Eloise told him that seeing the head officer of a sign that you maybe he heading to maximum, which keeps you isolated for a month, but seeing the assistant head officer wasn't the worst.

Joshua sat there and waited for his words to come out of his mouth.

"Komstu hingao?" He asked.

The boy nodded.

"Já."

The man took a puff from his cigarette.

"Good."

He placed it in an ashtray.

"Because I want to talk to you."

Joshua was confused.

"Why was I not informed before hand?"

"It is not of your concern."

"Well, I was hoping, but okay."

The man leaned close to his face; almost touching his nose.

"Just keep your mouth shut, and listen to my words very carefully."

Joshua obeyed, but he wished he was told before he came to see the assistant head officer. Either way, he was curious on what he was going to tell him.

"What is it?"

The man came back into his normal position and proceeded.

"As you may know, our Fangelisi has gotten overpopulated, and our lack of resources is the main cause of it."

"Am I going to be gassed?" Joshua asked.

The man chuckled.

"Vitleysa, Joshua! Who said anything about gassing you?!"

"That's what they do to reduce overpopulation."

"But you are not to be gassed."

"I'm not."

"No. I brought you in here because I need you for a special mission."

Joshua got more curious.

"What's the special mission?"

"In three months, our Fangelisi ship leaves for Husavik, and I'm recruiting you to be a mechanic for the journey."

Joshua's eyes lit up.

"A m-mechanic?"

"Ao sjálfsögou, Joshua!"

"But, how can I be a mechanic? I don't anything about machines or technical stuff."

"That's why we'll teach you. The ship leaves in three months, and that's plenty of time."

The boy started thinking. This was the biggest mission he was ever offered, and he didn't know what he was going to be up against.

But to him, this mission was going to be his second chance at a new life.

"If I accept, what will I get in return?"

"If the mission is successful, you'll be released upon return to Reykjavik. All your crimes will be cleared, and you'll be pardoned from additional crimes you have committed."

When he heard this, Joshua stood up and faced him, with a slight grin on his face.

"Then I accept."

The assistant head officer shook Joshua's hand.

"Your training begins in a fortnight."

He called the guard to escort him back to his cell.

"Be ready."

Joshua walked down the hall towards his cell as a brand new person. He had never been granted such a gift ever since his incarceration.

When he walked into his cell, Eloise was awake and mystified.

"What happened out there?"

Joshua took off his shift and went into the bunk underneath him; smiling with delight.

"Eloise, I'm going to be free."
