"Over here!"
Taking a sharp corner, [Y/n] ran into an alleyway and then, hiding herself behind a dumpster while covering her mouth with her hands. Her eyes peeked at the outside, seeing a few cops were running around with their leader giving order to look for her. This was really a bad idea but she need to gather some resources especially food and water for their survival.
She decided to wait, letting her body gathered some energy before sprinting off to her home. Then, she stood up and pulled her hood over the head to cover her face from the public. She ran out from the alley with her arms wrapped around the paper bag with secure. She ignored the suspicion look she received from the citizens of seeing a 10-years-old girl was running with an oversized hoodie and barefoot.
Then, she ran into another alleyway, which was leading her to another area further away from the city. Her heterochromia eyes—left was yellow and right was blue—glanced at the building ahead of her, which was surrounding with trees and vines crawling on the walls. It was an old house if she had to say. The outside was too scary even for an adult to come inspecting the house when knowing a rumour about ghost living inside of that house.
Walking to the front door, she unlocked it with a hidden key and stepped into the house. She walked to the living room, where her parents always spending their time there by creating a plan to gather more resources.
"Daddy! Mommy! I'm—"
SLAP!
Her eyes widened in shock as she let herself collapsing onto the ground with her hand placed on the cheek, hissing in pain. "Where the fuck did you just go?!" She flinched and lowered her head with fear in her eyes. "I—I went out to g—gather more food a—and medicine . . ." She answered.
"You shouldn't go out by yourself! Are you trying to get yourself killed?!"
Rachel stood up from her seat, placing a hand on her husband's shoulder. "Don't be mad at her, Zack." She confronted. Then, he glanced at her with anger in his eyes. "You should look after her! It's your job as her mother!" He shouted. "What about you? A father shouldn't hit his own daughter!" Rachel said, calmly. He clicked his tongue and then, glaring at his daughter.
"Go to your room now."
"But—" [Y/n] stopped, seeing her father's glare onto her. "Go or I'll fucking kill you here!" Zack yelled, which scared [Y/n] too much. She stood up and ran towards her room without looking at the back. Rachel frowned, deciding to go see her daughter but Zack stopped her by grabbing her wrist.
"Zack—"
"If you go, I'll end your life just like what you want in the past." Zack said, darkly. As usual, Rachel let out a sigh and nodded her head. "I hope [Y/n] will be fine." She said. Then, he clicked his tongue. "This is what happen when she lied to us about heading outside for some fresh air." He replied.
"She's just a child, Zack."
"Still, she need to know how dangerous the world is!" He exclaimed, then relaxed when her hands placed on his cheeks. "We can't control her action forever. She need to learn for better future." He sighed in reply, then placing a hand over hers. "I'm not an idiot, Ray." He spoke, softly.
Meanwhile, [Y/n] was sitting in her bedroom with her arms wrapped around her knees, pulling them to her chest. She didn't mean to anger her parents especially her father because she knew he would be mad but she took the risk. As a result, she received the consequence for her action. She wanted to show them that she could help them even though she was only a child. Other than that, her heterochromia eyes which she received from her parents was showing her identity as Zack's daughter in the public.
That was why she wore an oversized hoodie to hide her face from the public.
Knock, knock.
[Y/n] lifted her head, hearing the sound of knocking on the door. "Open this damn door, [Y/n]." It was her father, Zack. She bit her lip, thinking whether she should allow him or not. She was still afraid of him especially after what he just did at the living room. "Don't make me break this door!" Zack yelled, which she quickly ran to the door. She unlocked the door and opened it, creating a small gap for her head.
"W—What do you want?"
"Move aside." He said, then she slowly backing away and opened the door, widely. He stepped into her room and looked around, seeing the mess laying on the floor. "What a mess." He stated.
"I—I'm sorry, Daddy! I d—didn't mean to make you mad!" [Y/n] lowered her head while apologizing for her action. He glanced at her, noticing she didn't move her head but keeping her eyes glued to the floor. Geez. He really wasn't doing his best job as a father but what could he say about it? He never wanted to become a father but he didn't had a choice. He tried to learn how to become kind and caring for his daughter with the lesson he received from Rachel.
"Hey . . ." [Y/n] closed her eyes, seeing Zack was getting closer to her. She was scared of the punishment she might get from him. Then, her eyes snapped open when she feel a hand on her head, stroking her [h/c] hair. Zack crouched to her height and looking at his daughter. "I was just . . . worried about your safety, so no need to be scared of me." He whispered.
She still refused to lift her head, which he let out a sigh and placed a hand on her cheek. "Look at me." He said, softly. Hesitantly, [Y/n] lifted her head and her eyes looked at her father's face. He noticed her eyes was glistening with tears and he frowned, realizing the damage he did. "You know why both of us can't let you go out alone." She nodded her head, understanding.
"I know . . . I w—was almost getting myself c—caught by them."
"Are you scared?"
She shook her head. "N—No. Daddy told me to not crying in front of anyone!" He grinned and lowered his hand before standing to his full height. "You're not wrong but you can't keep doing that without our permission." He said. "Unless I decide to take you along with me." He added.
Her eyes widened in surprise, then a big smile formed on her face. "Is that mean I can go with you, Daddy?!" She asked. "But stay close with me." He said, sternly. "Yes, sir!" She playfully saluted, which he let out a chuckle in reply. Then, she let out a huge gasp. "What?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Daddy is laughing!"
"Of course I can laugh, you—" Then, Rachel suddenly appeared behind him and jabbed with her elbow. "Language." She reminded, watching him groaned in pain. "Where the hell did you come from?!" He yelled. "Kitchen." She answered, simply.
"Can you at least knock first?!"
"Say the one who broke the door for every single week."
"It was the fastest way to unlock the door!"
"By breaking them?"
Then, [Y/n] laughed as it was attracting their attention away from their argument. "Oi, kid. What the hell are you laughing at?" Zack asked, confused. "It's funny to see how Daddy and Mommy fighting with she always calm and you always angry!" She answered. As usual, Zack blinked his eyes with confusion while Rachel was smiling.
"I'm glad that we can make you laugh, [Y/n]." Rachel spoke, pulling [Y/n] into a warm hug. Her daughter smiled and returned with her own. "I love you so much, Mommy!" [Y/n] said.
"Don't forget about me, kid."
She chuckled, glancing at her father with her big smile. "You too, Daddy!" She ran to Zack and wrapped her arms around his legs. He smiled and stroked her hair, gently.
"I love you too, [Y/n]."
