The years had gone by in the blink of an eye.
His sensitive eyes took a long time to adjust to the pure light of the shining star in the sky. There were many dark spots and colors in his vision that had him struggling to see past the trees.
He took the time to look over the surrounding area, the lush greenery and the trees blooming with a mass amount of flowers, fruits and berries.
This used to be a power plant. It was leveled and there was no sign of any life for miles upon miles, how did this happen?
The man's thoughts were interrupted by a distant sound of a whistle, no a bell. A far off sound that rang in his ears and caused him to lose his train of thought.
Without a second thought, he turned his head and craned his neck to hear.
The sound was like a refreshing waterfall in his ears at first because it seemed as if all the sins he committed had been washed away by this foriegn sound but they began to refill him and fester, growing faster and larger while painfully gripping him in cold blood, which caused him to be driven mad with rage.
Step by step he walked through bushes and passed many trees, no matter how far he walked, even as his feet bled and stung, the bell became louder and louder in his ears. It filled him with its presence and made itself known. It drove him to the brink of madness and soon he found himself leaping off of a cliff.
The water from the waterfall sucked him down like a whirlpool and covered him, not allowing any air into his lungs. It made him freeze in place and hope for salvation through death.
That salvation was not redeemed however, because once he reflexively coughed out the rest of the water that polluted his lungs he realized that he hadn't died, therefore his actions fell short.
"Are you okay? Sasuke-kun?"
The soft voice snapped him from his thoughts and he went rigid once he realized what had happened and who had saved him.
Her usually clean and neat doctor uniform was now soaked in every sense of the word.
It wasn't just the uniform however, it was her. She was drenched in water from head to toe, and anyone could see that she was freezing from the rattle like shake of her body and the chattering of her teeth.
Although she seemed cold, he was warm.
That moment, he saw that she had wrapped him in her white doctor jacket and a light pink sweater that had little bunnies all over it. Around his neck and the soft material he had been laying on were parts of an old nurse uniform.
He went to sit up but she forced him down by grabbing his shoulders firmly
"You can't!" she shrieked which stirred confusion in his mind before his eyes met hers and she looked to the side.
There, behind her hanging on a tree limb, were all of his clothes.
He looked at her silently and her face went ablaze.
"I-i-i didn't see anything! I blindfolded myself! I promise!"
Her honest innocence caused discord in his mind and heart as well.
"I..." his hoarse voice seemed to calm the pink haired girl before him and she gave him her full attention.
"I hurt you" he said this with wide eyes as he remembered the recurring nightmares that haunted him since the day of the car crash.
He had been drinking heavily as a moody teenager and got into a fight with his best friend, sakura had been the one to get him to the car but she didn't expect him to climb into the driver's seat and push his older brother into the back seat. She didn't expect him to drive at full speed towards the river and kill his only brother, and put her in rehabilitation.
He did it. He went to juvenile prison and sat in silence for those five years, he didn't call anyone to come for him. He walked until his feet bled towards a forest that used to be devastated by nuclear testing. He walked until he found his way to a cliff and attempted to atone for his sins.
Only to find himself being taken care of by the one person whose life he had ruined. And to see that she had the nerve to neglect herself for him caused him to want to scream in agony.
Her soft gazes and gentle words, he didn't deserve any of it. But when he looked into her eyes, it was as if everything melted away.
He couldn't breathe. And she could see it. So she wrapped him in her embrace.
She hugged him tightly and he buried her hands in her wet hair and sobbed.
His loud cries and screams were nearly as loud as the waterfall behind them. He cried and she held him as close as ever, determined to make him understand that he was still and always will be worthy of her love.
