[modern AU, bittersweet, minor angst, fluff]

"Excuse me! Coming through!" I heard Naruto yell behind me. The four of us, me, Naruto, Neji, and Shikamaru are currently shoving people aside, running through groups of people or even in between couples who are unaware that we were going to bulldoze our way.

I could see Sakura's bright pink hair in front of the security checkpoint line, looking around as if she was waiting for me to arrive. If only she knew. A guy cursed at me and I ignored it, jumping over the rope barrier that was separating me from Sakura.

Did I awake you out of your dream? I'm sorry but I couldn't sleep

I passed through crowds of people and pushed my way in front of Sakura. My ears silenced the angry yells of people behind her, my eyes focused on hers. Shock was written all over her face, her mouth hanging wide open. I was out of breath from all the running and I was embarrassed that I was panting like a dog in front of so many people.

"Sir, you have to move out of the way," the guard pointed at the long line of people whose faces painted the perfect picture of annoyance. I shook my head and ignored the security guard and I could feel her rolling her eyes at me.

I'm never, never (never as far away as it may seem)

We'll pick up right where we left off

My heart is ramming through my ribcage, my breathing uneven and I have to look for my friends just to raise my confidence back up again. They were standing on my left side, Naruto gives me his famous grin and gave me the thumbs up. Shikamaru and Neji nodded their heads and I did the same, thanking them in my head.

"Sasuke...," my attention drew back to Sakura, confusion and worry in her emerald eyes that reflected my distress. She gaped at me, "what are you doing here?"

I rested my hands on her shoulders, staring right at her beautiful orbs, to tell her exactly what we forgot to do when she left for the airport. "You know exactly why," her face lit up, her eyes shining happily like a child who saw a teddy bear. Sakura smiled that reached her ears. She suddenly hugged me that made me stagger a bit.

"You remembered," she whispered, her breath tickling my ears. She took a step back and settled her hand on my cheek.

Paris, London, Tokyo
There's just one thing that I gotta do

I placed my hand atop of hers and nuzzled it. "Of course I remembered, how could I ever forget?" We both chuckled and I was happy to hear her laughter again.

I plopped down on the couch, sorrow washing over me, my body refusing to move. The boys stared at me in sympathy-like I need it-giving each other 'the' look. Minutes passed by before I heard Naruto dragging a long sigh. He squeezed his body next to mine, giving my shoulder a squeeze before speaking.

"We're going to miss her too. Sakura was like a little sister to us and it's a shame that she has to stay in New York for three years for that movie," he tried to smile but I know it's hard for him. Sakura was the person we could talk to when we needed it, she was the one to punch us when the four of us have a disagreement or misunderstanding, she was the glue of our group, to stick us back when we separate. Having her gone for three years will change us.

"Having her gone is not terrible, in fact, this will give us the chance to be independent. This will help us to talk our way to each other without Sakura kicking us on the ass."

We laughed at Shikamaru's words, but it was the truth. We depended on Sakura so much that we forgot that we were still a group. Maybe he is right, maybe this will be our chance to make our own decisions without asking for her help.

"And besides, at least you had your goodbye kiss to remember her by," Naruto slapped me in the back. I froze in shock, a bucket of ice cold water dropped all over me. The goodbye kiss! I bolted right up, Naruto and the two surprised by my sudden actions. Neji seemed to realize my reasons. Oh God.

"Don't tell me..."

"The goodbye kiss!" We all screamed, pushing our way out of our condo.

"One last goodbye?" I asked. She smiled breathtakingly, dropping her hand off of my face then proceeded to hold it both with hers.

"One last goodbye."

Time slowed down as we both lean towards one another. Her eyes closing as we're centimeters apart. I kissed her gently but with so much passion. I made sure that I poured out all my feelings to make her feel what I was feeling. I wrapped my arm around her waist to pull her closer and I could feel her smiling in our kiss.

We parted our lips to breath in some air, my forehead resting on hers. The people behind her cheered on, their anger long forgotten. Even the security guard was pleased with us, wiping the tears that rolled down her face.

I squeezed her hands, "I'm going to miss you so much. We won't be talking to each other as much as we want, but I promise, promise, that I'm going to call you whenever I have the chance. Promise me you'll do the same."

"I promise."

I took the chance to memorize her face, from her rather large forehead, to her eyebrows, to her nose, to her lovely eyes, to her chubby cheeks, to her chin, and lastly, to her soft plump lips.

I slowly let go of her hands, moving aside to finally let them go through the security checkpoint. She stood there for a quite a while before walking through the metal detectors. Her eyes kept glancing back towards me and I smiled whenever she does.

The boys moved besides me, cheering me up while each of them patted me on the back. "I'm going to miss that that girl," Neji muttered under his breath. I couldn't agree more.

No matter how much I wanted to stop Sakura from going to New York, I knew I'm going to stop her from reaching her dreams. She supported the four of us with ours and I vowed to do the same. When we first started dating, I recalled her stating that she wanted to become an actress and it was her dream when she was just a small little girl. I never thought she will be given an opportunity so quick that the thought of her leaving never crossed my mind.

When she reached the other side, Sakura turned around and waved at us. We all waved back at her. The four of us mouthed 'goodluck' at the same time to cheer her up. She hesitated for a moment before putting her hand, blinking back her tears and giving us one last smile. We stared at her retreating figure until she was lost in the crowd. I prayed that she will arrive safely. That plane she was about to board will fly her towards her dream.

Me and the boys stood in front of the huge glass that pointed to outside. The sun was already setting and it gave us a magnificent view if it weren't for the huge plane blocking it. My body felt heavy, my feet itching to run back into her arms. I felt a hand on my shoulders, and my best friends each gave me a reassuring smile, that everything will be alright. And they were right. Three years. I need to wait three years to feel her warmth again.

The sun already set when the plane took off, the dark sky acted like a blanket with little specks of light. The three left to go to the bathroom while I stood here in my spot. Knowing Sakura, she might be crying at this moment and I'm not beside her to comfort her. But she will remain strong to reach her dream even if it kills her.

Three years will feel like an eternity, each day will slowly kill me for sure, every second she will remain on my mind. Even if we're on opposites side of the world, we will remain patient and wait. Sakura Haruno will always be the only girl in my heart. This is the biggest challenge we ever faced and I'm ready to conquer it.

"I love you, Sakura."

And like a tiny whisper in my ear, I could here Sakura saying it too.

"I love you, Sasuke."
