🌸Blessings wait for you🌸
Sakura was tired.
Tired of living the same tiring life she always had.
But whenever she tried to tell someone, they told her to suck it up. And she was sick of it.
Of course, no one understood why she felt what she did. Sakura was a promising student, top of her class in the nursing course she was taking at Konoha University, the best school in the Land of Fire. She had taken several internships at different hospitals over her years, and even though she graduated next year, some hospitals wanted her to work there immediately.
Of course, she was the granddaughter of one of the leading medical pioneers, Senju Tsunade. Her talent was expected. And with her parents dominating the legal world, with the Haruno Law Firm, and her brother, Sasori, an award winning actor, she was destined for greatness.
So no one understood why Haruno Sakura of all people had been admitted into the Konoha Hospital for an attempted suicide. Much to Sakura's displeasure, she had gotten away with a broken arm and a dislocated shoulder on the other side.
Her mother was disappointed.
"Saku dear, why didn't you tell us what was happening? We could have helped you?" How could she embarrass our family like this? Have you no shame? Was what her mother really wanted to say, but she bit her tongue.
Sakura sighed. "I don't want to talk about it mom."
Her mother patted her leg. "I have a meeting to go to soon, so I'll be leaving. Saso will be coming to visit later today, alright dear?" She kissed Sakura's forehead and left the hospital room, as if she couldn't stand seeing Sakura there.
Sakura leaned back against the pillows. "With my extensive medical knowledge, I could have poisoned myself easily. Why did I decide to jump?" She muttered to herself.
"Because deep down, you want to live." A voice sounded from the door.
She jolted up in surprise. A boy, around her age, maybe more, sat in a wheelchair. He had spiky dark hair that puffed up in the back a bit, and sharp angular features. His eyes were constellation black, and his skin was deathly pale. He looked ethereal.
The boy wheeled himself over to Sakura. "Deep down you want to live." He repeated his sentence.
"No I don't! I'm sick of living! It's too pressuring, and I hate everything! I'm just tired." Sakura slumped.
"The days will get better, you just have to wait." The boy told her.
"And how would you know? You're stuck in a wheelchair!" Sakura snapped at the boy, but felt guilty when his face fell. "I'm sorry, I just-"
The boy patted her hand, his eyes crinkling into a smile. "It's alright. Besides, I know for sure it'll get better."
"How?" Sakura asked bitterly. "I'm pretty much done with everything in my life."
"You've stayed strong until now though, haven't you?" The boy cracked a smile at her puzzled expression. "What's the worry, just believe in yourself."
"But I can't." Sakura argued feebly. The dark haired boy was right and she knew it.
"Yes you can. You know why I'm here?" He asked her, and she shook her head. "I tried to commit suicide last month, and ended up being paralyzed waist down." Sakura gasped. "It's alright though, I'm grateful. I could have died and there's no fix to that." He gestured to his legs. "Even though I can't walk, the past month that I've been here, I realized something important. And I had to lose something fundamental to realize that. But I hope you can realize, before you lose everything."
"Realize what?" Sakura asked.
The black haired boy smiled. "That flowers bloom in the spring." With that, he wheeled himself out of the room.
Sakura thought about the strange encounter for a while. She never saw the boy again for a week, so she brushed it off as a strange dream.
Her friends visited though.
Ino and Hinata practically threw themselves at the poor girl when they arrived. "Oh Sakura, I'm so glad you're okay!" Naruto, her best friends, practically her brother, collapsed into a chair as soon as he saw her smiling face.
"I could never leave you Naruto, no matter how hard I tried." Sakura gave the three a small smile.
"So how are you doing Kura?" Hinata asked in her soft as a rose petal voice.
"I'm actually doing pretty good. The hospital says they'll let me out soon." Sakura told them.
Ino cheered. "We'll visit you everyday till you get better then!" Naruto and Hinata agreed, and the three of them left.
And again, Sakura was left alone. "Ah, I hate this," she groaned.
"You'll be alright," a familiar voice spoke from the door again, and Sakura looked up to see the handsome boy was back.
"Did you figure out what I meant?" He asked her, and she shook her head.
"I mean everyone knows flowers can't bloom in harsh conditions like snow, so it's obvious they grow after winter. But I don't get what that has to do with me."
The boy simply smiled. "You'll figure it out. You're smart."
And with that, he wheeled himself out of the room.
Sakura's head was spinning with thoughts. She couldn't, for the life of her, figure out what the boy was going on about.
She, when one of the nurses came inside for her medication that day, asked if she could go to the roof.
Surprisingly, she agreed. Asking the nurse if she could look for the handsome boy first, she went and wandered the halls.
She encountered him on the elevator. Greeting him with a wave, she approached the boy.
"Hey, wanna go to the roof with me?" She asked him.
"Sure. You know how to get there?" He smiled at Sakura's sheepish grin. "Follow me."
They go up the elevator a couple more floors, and he leads her to a door that opens up to the roof.
The roof is empty and quiet, the only sounds being the whistling wind and roar of cars passing on the road far below.
There are a couple plants in pots along the edge the hospital grows, and Sakura smiled. There are three of the flower pots, the last bits of snow from winter still covering the soil of one. The other two are flowers ready to bloom, one of the pink tulip bulb growing larger than the other. It's late March, and the cold season of winter had finally passed. Sakura gave a small laugh.
"What's so funny?" The boy tilted his head.
"I just finally understand what you meant." Sakura smiled at the flower pots.
"And that's would be...?" The boy trails off, waiting for her to explain.
"Well, you see, when it's winter, the flowers can't grow because of the harsh environment, flowers being me, and hardships being the metaphorical winter. Then that means spring represents the future after the snowstorm."
The boy nods his head in approval. "Exactly. And all you have to do is wait."
Sakura's smile faded. "All I've been doing is waiting, and I don't know if it's really going to be worth it."
"Well I know, that you've been struggling to achieve something, and you worked hard. Now winter is over, and you can see what awaits you." The boy looked at Sakura's downcast expression.
He wheeled himself to her side. "You know, my brother used to sing a song to me whenever I felt sad. Wanna hear?"
Sakura nodded, not really paying attention.
The boy took a deep breath and began to sing. It didn't sound like English, so Sakura listened in wonder to his singing.
She studied his face as he sang. Supposedly, the song was uplifting, she could see that from the smile on his face as he sang. His voice was beautiful, the foreign words flowing together. He had a strong, clear voice that didn't match the soft demeanor he had.
Then, the words changed to English.
Yeah, I know, we know, If it's you, you can do it, Don't give up, oh no
You've persevered up until now, what's the worry, believe in yourself
Blessings wait for you
He stopped singing, and Sakura clapped. "Amazing!" She gasped in realization. "Hey! You were telling me song lyrics?"
The boy smiled. "Guilty as charged."
There they stayed, the boy singing the song softly again.
A couple days later, when Sakura was walking around the hospital, she heard yelling.
Running around the corner, she found the handsome boy lying in the floor, a nurse hovering over his limp form. His tired eyes drifted to Sakura, and he mouthed something to her, and with a sad smile, closed his eyes.
Something wasn't right. Running over, she watched as the nurse felt for a pulse.
"It's gone," the nurse informed the doctor who arrived at the scene. "No pulse."
"Time of death, 4:40 pm," the doctor said, checking her watch. "Where's his assigned doctor. Tell him to inform immediate family." They both turned to Sakura, who was standing there, horrified.
"What happened?" She managed to force out.
"Is he your friend?" The doctor, a kind blonde lady asked. "He had brain cancer, and today, he finally shut down. And a shame. He was getting better these days."
Sakura didn't move. The boy had cancer? "He told me he was in here because he tried to kill himself."
The blonde lady put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry honey."
She sank to her knees. "Was-was it painless?" She whispered.
"He didn't feel a thing." The kind doctor lady told her with a sad smile.
One year later
Sakura stood sadly at the grave in front of her.
"Things are getting better, Sasuke." She spoke to the grave. "I was able to get your name from the doctor who looked after you. I finally graduated into what I wanted, which took a while to figure out what it was. I'm a cartoonist now."
She crouched down and brushed the moss off the grave. It was discovered soon after his death that his immediate family had all died of unknown causes, his only living relative being a brother who was a soldier missing in action.
So Sakura took it upon herself to pay for his funeral. She visited his resting place once a year.

Blessings wait for you
Sakura customized the stone herself, engraving the last words he told her.
With a clear voice, she began to sing the song he sang for her that day on the roof. It took a while to learn because it was in a different language, but she mastered it eventually.
"You were right Sasuke," she whispered, her eyes welling up with tears as she smiled a wobbly smile. "Blessings wait for you."
So I've recently gotten into kpop and this song really resonated with me. It's supposed to be uplifting but lol ig this turned out a bit sadder than usual. Hope you liked it!
