[Soul Eater AU]

Naruto chuckled to himself as he ran forward with the blue ball of energy swirling in his hand, "Rasengan!!"

"Idiot!" Sakura gritted her teeth, "we're not supposed to kill him! We're only supposed to inhibit him and take him back to Kakashi-Sensei!"

"I know, I know! Give me a break!" The Rasengan vanished from his hand as he equipped his chain scythe, "Hinata, you ready?"

"Yes!" The weapon shook in his hand as a form of agreement. "Whenever you're ready, Naruto!"

"Great!" Naruto held out his hand, shut his eyes, and waited, "go on."

He slowly began glowing blue as the chain carefully circled around him.

"I can feel the creature's wavelengths... They're stronger just underneath you, Naruto. Be careful."

"I know." Naruto focused on the presence hiding in the ground below him, "wait for it..."

The moment he felt the mound under his foot, his eyes opened and the chain scythe attacked.

"Now, Hinata!"

"On it!"

The chains clamped onto its prey just as Naruto leaped out of the way.

"We got it!!" Naruto laughed happily once he admired his work, "we caught the cat!"

The cat squealed and tried to escape from the chain's strong grip on its body.

"Good job, Naruto." Sakura chuckled, "you think you're ready to go out into the real world? This is just training, after all."

"Of course we can handle it." Naruto smirked as he picked up the cat and shoved it into a small cage, "after all, I'm gonna be the Leaf Village's greatest meister yet!"

"That's right..." Sakura sighed.

We're known as 'meisters'. We specialize in certain weapons used to eliminate evil souls. But collecting evil souls isn't our main goal. Our main goal is to create the most powerful weapon in the world. Though, these weapons aren't just ordinary weapons. They're our partners.

"Haha! Did you see how amazing I was, Hinata?!"

"Yes, Naruto. You were just amazing!" The chain scythe chuckled as it glowed yellow and transformed into a young girl with black hair.

Yep. Our weapons are actully humans who have the ability to turn into weapons. They bond with their meisters and they become partners. As of now, Naruto is Hinata's meister, and Hinata is his Demon Weapon with the ability to transform into any other weapon ranging from a smoke bomb to a shuriken, even into a ninja sword.

"So, Sakura." Naruto turned to the pink-haired girl, "who's your weapon?"

"I haven't exactly decided on anyone yet..." She scratched the back of her neck, "there wasn't really anyone that caught my interest just yet."

"Well, Kakashi-Sensei has a new lesson for us tomorrow. Maybe after that, we'll finally get to go out and catch some evil souls!"

"Yeah, probably." Hinata agreed with the overconfident boy, "you should come with us, Sakura. You'll find your partner on the way."

"Maybe."

I want a partner that I can trust. Someone I can relate to on every level. I specifically want a Demon Scythe to turn into a Death Scythe. Death Scythes are the most powerful weapons that a meister can create. It requires collecting 99 evil souls and one Akatsuki soul. There are very few Death Scythes in the world, but my dream is to create a Death Scythe at whatever cost.

"Hey, Sakura. Wanna come with us to the diner tonight?" Naruto turned to look at her, "we'll celebrate today's successful cat catch!"

"Heh. Sure, why not?" Sakura laughed, "so now that you two are partners, you'll have to get used to each other's wavelengths. Right?"

"Oh yeah." Naruto nodded, "you can move in with me, Hinata."

"Are you sure? I mean..." Hinata looked at him, "don't you think my place is a little bigger than yours?"

"Yeah, I guess you're right. Besides, I don't want you to have to move all your stuff. That's too much work."

Wavelengths. They're basically the sound of one's soul. For a meister and a weapon to really connect, their wavelengths have to match perfectly. Getting to know the person is a good way to match wavelengths, which is another reason why I'm stressing about choosing a partner to be my weapon... Oh, yeah. Partners also tend to become housemates, normally. I want my weapon to be fairly clean and well-kept because I don't want to live with a pig the rest of my life. 

"Think Shikamaru will be here again today?" Naruto looked at Hinata as he held the door of the diner for Hinata and Sakura.

"Probably?" Hinata smiled, "he's fun, isn't he?"

"Nah. He's boring. He's just a lot of fun to make fun of, you know?"

The moment Sakura stepped into the diner, Hinata and Naruto hadn't noticed the music in the background.

I... Don't think this is something you'd hear in a diner... She looked around curiously until she instinctively followed the sound towards a room in the back of the building. She pressed her ear against the closed door until her hand reached for the handle and pushed the door open.

"Whoa..." Sakura stared in amazement at the boy on the other side of the door playing the piano.

This guy's amazing... She slowly walked in, enjoying every note he played until she was standing right beside him. With his eyes shut, however, he didn't even notice her come in. After a few moments, the piece was finished. He let out a long breath he'd been holding, smirked, and opened an eye to look at her.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."

"Did you startle me?" He looked at her, "I felt your soul's wavelength. It's pretty strong, you know."

"Ah. Sorry."

"You apologize too much." He looked at her and rose a brow, "so, can I help you?"

"N-no..." Sakura chuckled sheepishly, "I just heard your playing and followed it here. It's beautiful."

"I guess." He looked down at the piano keys, "so what are you, a meister?"

"How did you--"

"I could tell."

"So..." Sakura crossed her arms, "are you a meister?"

"Nah. It's not really that cool." He stood up and held out his hand in front of her, "the name's Sasuke. I'm a weapon."

Sakura's eyes opened wide, "y-you're a weapon? Might I ask... What weapon are you?"

"Oh. Hn, I'm only a Demon Scythe."

Demon Scythe! That's exactly what I'm looking for!

"Are you interested in a guy like me?"

"Y-yeah..."

Sasuke tilted his head, studying her appearance, "what's your name?"

"S-Sakura. Haruno." She stuttered, "I'm currently looking for a Demon Scythe..."

"Well, then." Sasuke chuckled, "isn't this a bit of a coincidence. It's very nice to meet you, Sakura Haruno."

She knew the question she wanted to ask. She released all of her courage as she extended her arm and took his hand, "I want you to be my Demon Scythe, Sasuke. Then once we get some training and accept some missions, I'm going to make you into the greatest Death Scythe anyone has ever seen."

He looked at her, smirked, and nodded, "alright, Sakura. I'll hold you to that. I want you to be my meister."

Kakashi looked down at his roster, "is it just me, or do I see one more student than the last time I checked?"

"Yes." Sakura grinned, "I found my weapon."

"Hm... A Demon Scythe, eh?" Kakashi smiled at the new addition seated next to his meister, "well, we're happy to have you."

"Good to be here." Sasuke looked around the empty classroom they sat in, "this is a nice school."

"Just cuz I go here." Naruto chuckled, "no need to thank me."

"So you're the infamous Naruto Uzumaki." Sasuke looked at the boy, "you're most popular for your childish antics and huge ego. You completely contrast your Demon Scythe, Hinata Hyuga, who has the ability to transform into other Demon weapons."

"Heh. You know your stuff, don'tcha, Sasuke?"

"Calm down, Naruto..." Hinata muttered under her breath.

"Don't worry, Hinata. I got this."

Sakura stared in horror at her friend, "hold on... You two don't plan on actually fighting, do you?"

"Of course, Sakura." Naruto chuckled, "the rule at the academy is that a fight can continue only if there's a teacher there to witness it. Kakashi-Sensei's here, so let's get started!"

"Fine by me." Sasuke held out his arm, "you clearly have never seen the power of a real Demon Scythe."

Naruto smirked as Hinata stood up and walked over to stand next to him. He looked at her and grabbed her hand, "Hinata."

"Right."

She glowed yellow and transformed into a Demon Ninja Sword. Before she could hit the floor, Naruto grabbed the handle, swung her, and directed the blade in Sasuke's direction, "come on, Sakura."

"Kakashi-Sensei...?" Sakura looked uneasily at her teacher, "aren't you gonna stop this?"

"Why should I? This is good training. Besides, you probably don't know how to use a Demon Scythe, yet, do you?"

"Come on, Sakura." Sasuke walked to stand next to her, "this is part of training. Let's try to match our soul's wavelengths."

She looked at him, smiled, and nodded, "okay."

He took her hand and they shut their eyes, reading each other's wavelengths.

This girl... Sasuke smirked. Her positive wavelength is so strong...

It's... Sakura mentally gasped. It's so strong, but... Dark.

Sasuke looked at her, "you ready?"

She opened her eyes and squeezed his hand, "let's go."

Sasuke's outstretched arm glowed red as his arm transformed into the long blade of a black and red scythe. He smirked as the rest of his body glowed red and he transformed into a black scythe about as long as Sakura's own height.

"Ooh, pretty!" Naruto chuckled, "okay, newbs! Let's see how quickly you can match your wavelengths before Hinata and I take both your souls!"

"Sakura." Sasuke's voice resonated from the weapon that shook in Sakura's hands, "you know how to do this?"

"Of course. Stop doubting me." Sakura laughed as she ran forward, swinging the scythe in Naruto's direction.

"Whoa!" He was caught off guard as he blocked the attack with his ninja sword, "you've clearly been practicing on your own, Sakura."

"Naturally." She leaped back and advanced quickly to strike again, "Sasuke, we should try Soul Resonance!"

"What?!" Naruto clicked his tongue, "you're kidding! This is your first time fighting together! You think you can perfect the Soul Resonance already?"

"I think so." Sasuke chuckled, "after all, you're looking at the next Death Scythe of the academy."

"Naruto, don't underestimate them," Hinata warned.

"Don't worry, Hinata. We're good, here."

Sakura gripped the black metal rod of her weapon and looked down at it, "wanna try?"

"Of course."

"Alright."

Sakura shut her eyes. Soul Resonance... When the meister sends her wavelengths into her weapon. Then the weapon amplifies it and sends it back into his meister. This process is repeated until a strong energy is created. This energy, for a Demon Scythe Meister, can be used to temporarily evolve the Demon Scythe into different forms mainly created to defeat stronger evil souls.

Her eyes opened and both her voice and Sasuke's echoed in unison.

"Let's go, Soul Resonance!"

Sakura and her scythe started glowing a deep red as their wavelengths flowed through each other's bodies.

"Whoa... They really did it, huh?" Naruto watched in a daze.

"Naruto, pay attention!" Hinata cried," if we're not careful..."

"It's fine, Hinata!"

Sakura smirked, "Think we can make it?"

"Yeah. Let's do it, Sakura."

She gripped the metal staff and released the energy built up in the weapon.

"Cha!!" Sakura swung the scythe as the blade glowed red and grew into a longer, more powerful blade. So powerful, in fact, that the red energy of Sasuke's soul wavelength radiated from it, "we did it!"

"Good." Sasuke smirked to himself, "there's no way they can beat Witch Hunter."

I can't believe it... Witch Hunter. That's the first stage of a Demon Scythe's form. Even with just our first fight, I can't believe we're able to pull it off so early in our partnership! Sakura smiled to herself and nearly shivered with excitement.

"Th-this isn't good!" Naruto stated in horror, "H-Hinata!"

"Prepare to die, Naruto!" Sakura swung her weapon.

To his amusement, Naruto watched as, from the unexpected weight of the weapon's new form, Sakura's footing slipped and she fell directly on her butt. Sasuke, still in weapon form, slipped from her grip and his Witch Hunter blade sliced through the wall around them, barely missing Kakashi's hair in the process.

"You idiot! What happened?!" Sasuke growled, "careful where you drop me!"

"Sorry. I didn't expect you to be that heavy when you transformed." Sakura chuckled weakly, "but what happened? You're back to your usual scythe form."

"Of course. Once our Soul Resonance breaks, so does the Witch Hunter. Same goes for any Soul Resonance scythe form." Sasuke explained as Naruto stood nearby staring at the giant gash in the wall before bursting into laughter. 

"Wow, you guys are so incompatible!" Naruto cackled, "in any case, Hinata and I won this fight." 

"These two..." Kakashi stared, "this is one heck of a duo, that's for sure... I wouldn't say they're incompatible."

"On those terms, we'll take turns cooking every day. On top of that, the apartment stays clean. Got it?"

"Yeah, yeah."

Sakura rose a brow as Sasuke hauled his boxes of stuff to the room Sakura had always set aside for her new partner, "are you always this lazy?"

"I like to call it 'carefree'. The girls like it."

She rolled her eyes, "not me."

"You're a different case." Sasuke smirked, "you're my partner. My Meister. And now that you're my meister, I'm your weapon. I'm willing to give up my life and soul for my Meister as its tool. So, from here on out, my existence and my soul only belongs to you. Remember that, Sakura. Okay?"

Sakura looked at him, smiled, and nodded, "yeah. I got it, Sasuke."

He held out his hand to her and she took it in a firm, reassuring grip. She knew that this was only the beginning of a long journey with Sasuke, and now that he's her weapon, she knew she was going to make him into the strongest weapon anyone has ever seen.

If this was a hard OneShot to understand (I know for most, it probably was), I'm open to questions and will respond to any questions you guys have. This OneShot was based on another anime, which is why it's so detailed and intricate and has a bunch of words that one probably wouldn't normally use on a daily basis. 😂
