Chapter IX Gone
Chapter IX
Gone
Gareth's POV
"What do you mean 'their gone?' How can they be gone?" Ruby asked, pacing the room in front of me. I had to resist the urge to use my usual answer of, I mean what I say.
"They disappeared." I answered. There was most likely no need for it, but I was preparing to dive down behind my brother Jareth's throne for protection.
She stopped pacing, her back to me. "How did they disappear?"
"I don't know. The guard that was watching them said they were on the battlements. He looked down for a moment and there was a flash of light, and then when he looked back up they were gone."
I looked down in thought, but my eyes shot up when I heard a whistling noise.
I dove behind Jareth's throne so that I wasn't hit by the sword Ruby had just thrown at me.
"They can't have just disappeared into thin air without a trace. Even to my kind that is impossible!" She yelled at me.
I stood from behind the throne to reply, forgetting that she had another sword until it struck into the stone beside my head.
I scowled at her and she looked at me with wide eyes. Yes she had thrown the swords intentionally at me, but she was a excellent shot, if she had intended to hit me, she would have.
I saw a tear begin to slip from her eye, and she turned her back to me.
I walked over to her and placed my hand on her arm, pulling her around into a hug.
She cried into my shirt and frankly, I didn't blame her. She most likely blames herself.
She was supposed to stay with Jareth and Sarah and then escort them to the honeymoon before returning to the castle. But Ruby was ill. She was out in the Labyrinth all day, the day before the wedding to calm her self from the Stress Jareth and Sarah were putting her through. Being now human, she gave her self a forum of heat stroke, with how warm it is out there. and couldn't go with them.
What she didn't realise was that I blamed my self too. With her being unable to go, I was supposed to do it. But I had to stay and look after her so I trusted the guard.
After she stopped crying I mentioned the final detail.
"There was a mirror."
She pulled away from me and looked up confused. "What?"
"When Sarah and Jareth disappeared. There was a mirror left in there place."
Her eyes grew serious and she looked at me in a sort of knowing way. "Show me the mirror."
